What about when Steele retires in a 2 or so years?

2 years is a long time....
As it stands right now, Bianco is ahead of him for this role.
Who knows what happens next year with trading, FA etc.

From what i saw on the weekend, Draper and HH have already gone past him in terms of showing AFL traits.
His spot on the list will be dependant on how many we have to shed in the off season to accommodate incoming players etc.

For me....he's not going to make it based on current gameplan & traits.
He very well might at another club, but not ours given the current philosophy.

300k is still below the league average. If he can fill Roughys role its cheap

That's an average that includes all the big contracts isn't it? That means there's a bunch of players below that average. I imagine the borderline delist guys like Frampton would make up that group. I reckon he'd be 50-100k south of that.

A blow, as a fit Grundy coming into finals would have been a bonus. In saying that Cameron and Cox have now built a more then reliable playing relationship, which we may not have wanted to breakup coming into finals anyway....
Probably saved a difficult selection choice at some point. Imagine saying that about Grundy previously.

JElliot #5 signed on until 2025

Fantastic news to get Billy signed up. He is having a blinder of a second half of the season, and is in great form going into finals. Hopefully his body holds up over the next few years, as he has an important role to play over the coming seasons....

I watched the Brisbane v Carlton game closely just to really see McStays game as he's been quiet most weeks.

I noticed he was playing deeper than usual and was far more imposing and dangerous. He did it all too. He scored, brought other forwards into the play, he created, he worked.

Really turned my thought on the trade around, if we play him deep, maybe freeing up Mihocek to play a bit further up the field at times (because Mihocek is a beautiful field kick,) I think he might really benefit from being the big target rather than third fiddle like he is at Brisbane.

I'm excited.

100% agree. Was super yesterday, they seemed to target him a bit more as well.

We are getting a bloke who can literally play key forward, key back and second ruck for what, half a million a year? Yet people still complain.

Collingwood is confident Jordan De Goey will remain at the Pies if he is prepared to accept behavioural clauses in an incentive-based new deal.
De Goey is keen to stay at Collingwood and the free agent will likely be offered a deal close to the one that was withdrawn after his Bali nightclub escapade, expected to be two years at $800,000 a season.

The Pies will wait until the end of the year to negotiate that deal, which would need full board approval given his trail of incidents across his career.

De Goey’s outstanding form and his capacity to avoid controversy since his Bali trip has helped bring about a dramatic change in heart by the Pies.

De Goey and his manager Ryan Vague are understood to both believe his best prospects of maximising his career are at Pies where he can play on a big stage and as a highly marketable Collingwood star.

St Kilda is his likely landing point if he leaves, but the Saints board is yet to approve a full-blown attempt to secure his services.

De Goey could be offered $800,000 a season across as many as five years at St Kilda.

The Collingwood deal would have triggers relating to his off field conduct and potentially penalty clauses for any future transgressions.

From a list management perspective keeping De Goey is also smarter business than outlaying multiple picks for an inside midfielder like GWS onballer Tim Taranto.

De Goey’s free agency compensation would be off-set by the arrival of Brisbane key forward Dan McStay, meaning the Pies would effectively let him go for almost nothing.

GWS small forward Bobby Hill is also destined to get to Collingwood next season as the Pies aggressively improve their list.

The Pies were keen on Hill last year when his trade to Essendon was aborted and they love his speed and elite kicking skills.

He is yet to blossom as a footballer after injuries and a testicular cancer diagnosis this year but the Pies believe he has the potential to add to a forward line that includes Jack Ginnivan, Jamie Elliott, Ollie Henry, Beau McCreery, Will Hoskin Elliott and Beau McCreery.

I know he is best 22, when fit, l'm just wondering how the club would have brought a player in, so close to finals after not playing for 3 months, and they may well have preferred to continue with Cameron and Coxy....
Trust me. The players get a huge lift from key players coming back into the team in August.

JDG two years at $1.6 million is an absolute rort isn't it.

Plays 15 games a year, gets involved in at least two off field indiscretions per year, and plays a handful of good quarters and goes missing for half the games he plays in.

How he has made so much money off of us over his career is an absolute laugh. Looks like we will once again go without an out and out gun in terms of our inside midfielder stocks.

Tom Boyd - now that was a rort. But he performed on gf day and no one cares now.

800k for JDG if there are triggers is fine by me.
