By what metric? All-Australian jackets? B&F's?Moore > Grundy
This is a reply to my own post.
Playing around with the figures on this site, i noticed that Grundy has had a lot of clangers when compared to other rucks. His other stats aren't particularly impressive either. This is shaping my view that Grundy, from a stats perspective has been bang average as a ruckman, and is easily replaced.
Although he is our best clearance ruckman when compared to Cox and Cameron.
Im allowed to be a turncoat. I have Italian heritage.
If you base your opinion of player on stats you are missing half the picture.
I think a statement like this needs a lot more nuance. Statistics enable for seeing a more complete picture, as long as they are used correctly. The eye test can be very unreliable, particularly if you're not at the ground. If you base your opinion of player on stats you are missing half the picture.
Debatable , fair point thou.Yet not as elite as Grundy was when he signed his near-identical deal. Curious.

I realise some people don’t, but that is why contracts are drawn up and signatures affixed.
Perfect example of this is saad. I’d love to know his no of kick outs per game. Still amazed why kick outs are counted as a possession. If you base your opinion of player on stats you are missing half the picture.
AFL app has that stat. 6 out of 16 kicks last week.Perfect example of this is saad. I’d love to know his no of kick outs per game. Still amazed why kick outs are counted as a possession.
Thanks. That’s more than a 1/3 of his possessions from kick outs. Brings his average down a lot one would think!AFL app has that stat. 6 out of 16 kicks last week.
Advanced stats can be damning for accumulators. Treloar last week for example: 24 disposals as a rebounding defender looks pretty good. Except that he only had 9 kicks and 3 of them were kick outs.Thanks. That’s more than a 1/3 of his possessions from kick outs. Brings his average down a lot one would think!
Jack Ziebell last season. Legendary for SuperCoach, terrible playerAdvanced stats can be damning for accumulators. Treloar last week for example: 24 disposals as a rebounding defender looks pretty good. Except that he only had 9 kicks and 3 of them were kick outs.
Grundy had a poor year during his negotiationsBy what metric? All-Australian jackets? B&F's?
Grundy at the time of signing his contract was 2x both of those.
Legendary for SuperCoach. Are you serious , the guy has an average score of 66Jack Ziebell last season. Legendary for SuperCoach, terrible player
Wrong. He signed on January 2020 after one of the best seasons of any modern ruckmen ever. Then covid happened not long afterGrundy had a poor year during his negotiations
The third and fourth words must have flown by you. He averaged 107.6 last season after averaging 48 the season before, almost solely from taking the kick-insLegendary for SuperCoach. Are you serious , the guy has an average score of 66
What was so hard to understand about the words “last season”?Legendary for SuperCoach. Are you serious , the guy has an average score of 66
Well go back to all the articles back in 2020 after the trade period. Where it was widely reported including from both teams who stated we were contributing $300k over 5 years and the Dogs helping us out to either front or back end the contract payments to help us out with the salary capHow do people even know this? I call bullshit
He’ll nominate a club and we’ll deal exclusively with them. Collingwood’s bargaining power is that he’s contracted so we can take him off the table at any moment, but once it’s in motion under these conditions you’re never reconciling.I’m not saying that I would like Grundy to go but one thing in our favour is that because there are many clubs interested in his services, if he does leave Collingwood will have some bargaining power in regards to how much of his contract we would be required to pay.
Agree with you completely TW...
Contrary to some opinions, I like Grundy and feel he brings his best efforts 100% of the time... That opinion is derived from watching him, not stats.
Although it is interesting that stats highlight that Grundy's strength is his clearance stats (currently the team weakness) and around the ground he plays like a rover. He has a point of difference so cant really compare him to other rucks.
I'd be happy to retain him on our list, and try to fit on other players that will improve us when the opportunity arises.
Have i just turned again?
Why would it matter? How many clearances does Grundy get by hitting to himself?
I am slightly warming to him. And do agree that he would prob get more opportunities with us. He def plays more up the ground/ruck with bris than I think he would with us. Def be more of a target inside 50 with us I think
My bad , thought you meant this his last seasonThe third and fourth words must have flown by you. He averaged 107.6 last season after averaging 48 the season before, almost solely from taking the kick-ins
Diamond in the rough.Legendary for SuperCoach. Are you serious , the guy has an average score of 66
