I will never understand why people want a player that doesn’t try in the team.

Literally the first thing you want from a player and the only thing we can demand.

Schache performance last year stamped his papers and if he is playing this year we are not performing.

That is a shame as many have said he has the tools but the ticker is near invisible and that’s unacceptable at senior AFL level for a KP

Jong tries really really hard.... can we unstamp his papers?

FB: Khamis - Keath - Williams
HB: Daniel - Gardner - Scott

C: Lipinski - Bontempelli - Smith

HF: Vandermeer - Naughton - Hunter
FF: West - Bruce - Wallis

R: Martin - Treloar - Macrae

I: Dunkley - Liberatore - Dale - English

E: Schache - McNeil - Johannisen - Cordy

If one of Treloar/Vandermeer isn't fit, McNeil comes in. Schache plays if Naughton doesn't get up in time.

No Wood - he never comes back well from an injury and has missed too much of the pre-season. Khamis has earned his shot - I was super impressed by him. Despite already having played a half he was composed and really offered a lot of help defence without compromising his structure.

I don't know why Scott is at half back but he should play regardless of where he is on the field. I never want to see Dale at half back again but going by Bev's presser I should get used to seeing it.

McNeil is close and I love his involvements, but he probably needs to up his volume before he features.

I would be extremely concerned about that backline TBH, especially with Dale rotating through. That would be 4 with question marks (Khamis, Gardner, Scott & Dale). I think I'd would prefer to bring in Duryea for some steadiness, or even risk Wood to get another mature head in there.

I really like Khamis but it would be good to see him debut with a Crozier or Wood type next to him for some leadership, and not leave him too exposed.

I can see that argument, and wouldn't be mad if Duryea was brought in, but it's worth considering that your question marks have all been rated as tracking better than him throughout the pre-season. Duryea is also not really a help defender, which Crozier is, and I'm loathe to either pull Williams away from a distribution role or leave Gardner and Keath without support in 1v1s.

I don't see Wood as an option, I don't think I've ever seen him play well out of an injury. He needs some time to get the read of the game back.

Duryea should really come in for Scott, but I agree it's unlikely given the past couple of weeks. You never know whether Scott is actually performing better than Duryea, or it's Bev picking his favourites or preferring youth as he typically does.

Yeah, it's a bit of an odd one for me. I quite liked what Scott did but most of what I enjoyed of his game came ahead of the ball (which is no great surprise). Duryea is certainly a safer and more established option. There's obviously something Bev likes that Scott does but Duryea doesn't...I just can't see it.

Definitely not a Bevo team as I know naughts will be FF, Gardner FB , Scott and possibly McNeil in the lineup also. I wouldn’t mind seeing one game with the above line up. Buku In because of Crozier.

If Scott is picked over Duryea to play in the backline against the Pies I’ll spew.

It won't happen but this is the side I'd be choosing.

FB: Williams, Gardiner, Cordy/Duryea,
HB: Daniel, Keath, JJ
C: Smith, Dunkley, Hunter
HF: West, Naughton, Bontempelli
FF: Wallis, Bruce, Cavarra
R: Martin, Treloar, Macrae
Int: Libba, Lipinski, English, Dale

Picking a bunch of first gamers for the first game against Collingwood would be an absolute pisstake, We need as much experience as we can put in our backline so I've selected Cordy (expecting Collingwood to go tall with Cox, Cameron and Mihocek.

JJ probably won't be in Bevs mind (nor Cordy) though and its an absolute indictment on those 2 and others like Richards that we have guys who have barely been at the club for 3 months who seem ahead in the pecking order.

I think Cavarra deserves more opportunity at senior level. Seems like hes a good and regular contributor at VFL level and with a forward line of high flyers we need someone who stays on the ground.

I’m sorry in advance as I am forever grateful for what Bevo has done for us but if we seriously go into round 1 against Collingwood with Gardner, Scott and potentially Dale and Khamis in the backline then it’s a joke. We will get absolutely annihilated.

Collingwoods mids are a fraction worse than ours and their backline will easily cover our forward line. We must have experienced players like Cordy, Duryea, JJ and Wood (if fit) in the team if we are any chance.

I love Bev but his stubbornness and loyalty to some players is costing us a premiership window with the greatest player who’s ever been in a dogs jumper in his prime.

Pies by 40+ and we are on the back foot again to start the year off. Same old story.

You say loyalty is costing us and then say JJ and Cordy must play. What have either of them done over the past 12 months to deserve a spot?

I was hoping our improvement would come with development. Young hasn't taken that step and Cordy seemed to reach his ceiling 2 years ago, so I don't think that's going to get us there. So unless we want to stagnate where we've been the past two seasons we need to start trying something new, otherwise we'll never contend.

I see your point, but all these inexperienced players at once (potentially McNeil and Cavarra at the other end) is a recipe for disaster. Round 1 at the G with 46,000 pies fans and we could have 4-6 players with less than 10-20 games to their name. We are no hope.

Honestly I'd rather try something new and lose by 50 then go with the tried method and maybe get over the line. The experienced backline hasn't been able to hold up in finals 2 years in a row and I see no reason that would change for our next few finals. I'd take 5 losses in a row if it means we can find a group that look like they can hold their own when the mids aren't on their A game, inexperienced or not.

I understand how many people want it to work with Bruce, and to chuck him back, I would be inclined to just not select him at this point in time. Naughton paired with Schache until Ugle-Hagan is ready, plus English resting is more appropriate in my opinion.

Sorry but i think the fact that people keep putting JUHs name forward for the seniors is bordering on laughable.

Others must have seen something in Scott I missed

Looked totally off it to my eye. Be an awful selection
