AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Ive seen alot of him and he has alot of mongrel about him, loves a push and shove and has a mean hip and shoulder, absolutely flattened Dan Hannebery round 1 for example. Adams is a bastard on the field and plays years ahead of his age. Ball can take a hit better than anyone in the AFL and Adams and Marley are very hard at the ball, Blair and Thomas are tougher than average though.I think people are over exaggerating Adams inside hard midfielder image, he's not as hard at the ball as some are going on about and still well behind L.Ball in that regards. Judging off last year I would say Williams, blair maybe even Thomas went harder at it then what Adams did at GWS.
Adams can find the Footy on the inside better than the outside, he will find more contested footy with us. GWS rotate there players around more than most teams, Adams played Back Pocket and Forward pocket. Its a bit tough against adams comparing him to Beams who is an Elite Inside/Outside football. Its good that Adams can find the uncontested footy, and him and Ball will be on the bottom of every pack.Dayne Beams averaged 12,9 contested possessions Adams averaged 8.1

Buckley isn't stupid enough to start Armstrong in round 1 v Fremantle surelyWow how did I miss Adams.
Take Josh Thomas out and put in Adams.
Otherewise take out Armstrong and put Young across half back. Then J.T gets into the team.
Also, I'd like to see Freeman break in...but as he didn't play the intra club I have nothing to base his form on. Hopefully after the NAB CHallenge we see the likes of Kennedy, Broomhead and Freeman in there. Also reckon Langdon is a real smokie
For me if you don't name Reid down back you can not leave Maxwell out. How can Brown and Keeffe do it on their own?
Frost will be good when he learns the game better, you can't expect him to be named as a third tall down back this year and win a flag. He's still learning. So if we are talking about him taking a major key position role this year we are stuffed. I'm not saying a don't rate him but the lack of experience is a worry.I cannot see Maxwell not playing the majority of the year. But in your example I imagine with Reid upfront, there isn't a position for Goldsack in the forward line so he will probably come back or be dropped. Then the other option is Frost, I haven't seen allot of him, maybe the VFL watchers can give a bit more information

Brown - is a lock
Keeffe - is a lock although I'm worried we haven't seen him over a full season to date.
Goldsack - although he's 26 I don't think I've seen him cement 22 odd games together in a season to date.
That's the worry with the key position players down back I'd like to see us put a solid 3 together over a full season. If we are putting players down there that are still "learning" the game don't expect to win them all.
I like it. I don't think Lynch will play much this year though. The forward now has White which is a big bonus.Based on what I know (unless the club has massive faith in Keefe, Brown, Goldsack, Frost), I would like to start with the following
Backs: Keefe, Brown, Reid
Forwards: Cloke, White, Lynch (swapping in ruck)
By all reports Lynch was slightly injured for part of the year, but with his and whites aerobic ability I think they can really run and stretch there other 2 defenders. Even Cloked used to have a very big tank.
I like it too but it still concerns me that we seem to be having to make some fairly big concessions in the area of second ruck. If Lynch can deliver this year what he failed to do last year then that setup could be very potent but I will believe that when I see it. From all reports his injuries hampered him last year and if that's the cause and he is fully fit now then I hold high hopes but if his output this year doesn't improve dramatically then our second ruck position becomes a thorn in our side. Hudson is a great second ruck option but you simply can't put him anywhere else on the ground and Keeffe just doesn't cut it. Besides that, Keeffe coming out of defense would only weaken an area where I think there are a lot of question marks. To me there are some pieces to the puzzle that really need to fall into place for us to be a genuine contender this year and they all centre around the key role of ruck. Nail that and you're half way home.I like it. I don't think Lynch will play much this year though. The forward now has White which is a big bonus.
Cloke White ... you could maybe even play a medium sized guy as third tall as long as he leads well and kicks straight. I'd say at the end of 2014 it will be time to buy either a quality tall/medium sized forward or a quality defender to replace Reid down back so he can play forward.
Yeh the worry is names like Frost Witts etc are getting thrown up for necessity senior position in 2014 yet they haven't quite strung it together yet. A real development year might be coming up if they are taking these spots. We don't even know of they are any good yet because they haven't played enough senior footy.I like it too but it still concerns me that we seem to be having to make some fairly big concessions in the area of second ruck. EDIT! PS. I haven't seen anything from Witts yet that makes me think he's ready to be a genuine ruck option. I certainly hope that changes this year because if he had the mongrel that Grundy has he would be a monster.
I certainly think that on what I saw of Frost he can do a job. He may need to add a little composure but those things come with time. Wits on the other hand has not shown me that he is AFL standard on any kind of consistent basis. To me he lacks in the area of second efforts and athleticism. Of course I'm not condemning Witts at all because he still has time to develop and may well become an unstoppable ruckman one day. It's just that for now, we seem to have a potential weakness in that area and we need someone to seriously step up.Yeh the worry is names like Frost Witts etc are getting thrown up for necessity senior position in 2014 yet they haven't quite strung it together yet. Maybe but that depends on what you're expecting from the second ruck role. Personally I would have liked to see more but as I've stated, if it's all about carrying an injury then you can only hope he's now fully fit.For me last year, I didn't think Lynch was terrible as second ruckman and around the ground. I think where he failed was hitting the scoreboard and being a marking presence inside 50

To fill a list spot. Can't have everyone on 500k salaries.THen why did Collingwood recruit Armstrong?
To fill a list spot. Can't have everyone on 500k salaries.
We did. His name is Tony Armstrong. We took what was available. We didn't chase him. The recruiters obviously wanted to go mature age over an 18 year old that's all there is to it. Now our supporters can pump him up to play round 1. Won't happen. He's there for a bit of security.Collingwood would have just drafted another player if that was the case. I'm pretty sure nobody in the on an AFL list is there just to fill a spot. Tony Armstrong is to give us back line depth after Heath Shaw and Ben Johnson moved on and as far as i'm aware we have a few injuries. Armstrong is going to be expected to play some games and round one seems perfect for him. What back line do you expect at round one then.
We did what? Draft him? He came as a delisted free agent. We did. His name is Tony Armstrong. We took what was available. We didn't chase him. Exactly. Who else could we have taken. Nothing else around for that price. We did what? Draft him? He came as a delisted free agent.
