7. Happy Boomer.
Didn’t like the undisciplined hit on Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell last weekend and still staggered he only received a fine from the MRP. Also stand by the belief grumpy old footballers don’t help their futures when they lash out. But there is a chunk of egg on the face after watching Boomer play the ball — and not the man — and do it in a game North Melbourne should’ve won. He had 32 and kicked three which is truly staggering for a 38-year-old. Also staggering is that North’s won most key areas — contested footy, clearances, inside 50s — but inaccuracy coughed up the game.

9. Photographs. Another terrific shot was on offer after the North Melbourne v Sydney match of Aliir Aliir and Majak Daw. The two African-born footballers spent periods of the game opposed to each other and while Daw gave Aliir some problems, the Swans defender’s contribution once again was significant. Commentators keep putting up names for story of the year — McDonald-Tipungwuti, Menzel, etc — but Aliir’s journey takes beating.

8. Anderson and Toumpas. Strong belief Port Adelaide and North Melbourne could ignite the careers of Jimmy Toumpas and Jed Anderson after securing them in trades, but as the season closes, it hasn’t played out that way. Toumpas has played eight games and needs to find more urgency to continue his senior career, while Anderson’s season hurts even more. North gave pick No.15 to Hawthorn for him and his eight games this season have a returned an average of 11 disposals. Both were poor at the weekend and although both clubs will persevere, improvement is a necessity in 2017.

surely a bloke who has been out of action for what 16 rounds playing in a new team is allowed some leniency. Anderson almost does a lot of things right. I like his speed and physicality. When he gets a bit more confidence in his game i think he will be a cracker.

Robbo mentioning Grumpy Old.

Hmmm....Wonder if he has posted in that thread yet....

I have heard a whisper that the AA selection committee are arguing for Rance to be named at both CHB and FB in the team. So unfortunately there will be no room for Tarrant in the team.
The AFL are considering calling the AA night off due to it being 'too soon' after the horrific and devastating injuries that have left the Western Bulldogs in mourning and shocked the wider AFL community. 'To be celebrating the season at this time would be considered disrespectful' Gillion said today outside AFL headquaters.

ADDITIONAL BREAKING NEWS: DOCKLANDS

All AAs henceforth to be replaced by the "AFL Purple Heart". Mr. McLaughlin added "In light of the unfair and malicious way fate has treated these fine brave young men, we as the highest office in the game are simply unable to fill the required positions in this AA team." before continuing "An AA team without the likes of Bob Murphy, Tom Libertore or Mitch Wallis is no AA team at all." The inaugural "AFL Purple Heart will be awarded to the 50 players and staff of the Western Football Club.

Mark Robinson was seen to be extremely overcome with emotion at this announcement. So upset as one pundit put it "he could hardly put together a coherent statement". Other unnamed sources failed to see the difference.

Haven't watched FC for 4 weeks.

Still wallowing in misery of everything and everyone.

Fat Hutch singled handedly wrecked this show in 2016.

A negative OCD immature media flog.
Yep, not watching it again while Hutchinson is on it. Idiot.

Would someone be so kind as to tell me who the 'Smart Tradie' (I think that's what they were calling him) who they had on SEN's All Night Appetite last night is? Says he's a big NMFC supporter. I assume he posts here.

First thing i heard this morning when switching on SEN were the dulcet tones of Tim Watson declaring that Chris Mayne is a done deal at North Melbourne :mad:

Tim Watson also said Essendon didn't cheat...

I don't know why anyone would be getting upset about trade rumours until set in stone. Even then, wait until the entire trade and draft period is done. We may have more need for certain players than we on the outside know at this stage. Who knows which of our players have asked for trades or looking elsewhere.

I know "Say goodbye to champions" and all, but was the crowd against GW f@&$ing S that bad? You'd think it was a disaster from the no. of times BT went on. f/w

We've averaged 13000 in 2 home games against GWS.

22000 is not a bad result.

Tarrant is a better player than Talia. Talia is a very good stopper. Tarrant also takes intercept marks and is a beautiful user of the ball.
He does need a Max Gawn beard tho. If Goldy had one, or dreadies, he'd have been AA three times.
I won't go into the chronic overrating of Rance.

5. Kangaroos

Sense of dread around Saturday night, despite Brent Harvey’s form being better than solid. Has been a momentous week and you have to wonder if all parties had their time again, they’d do it differently. Boomer probably shouldn’t have demanded an answer on his future but because he did, coach Brad Scott felt compelled to tell Harvey the truth. In hindsight, Harvey should not have put himself before the team’s finals campaign and Scott shouldn’t have obliged. Still, it’s not over until it’s over and the Kangas have a final to be played, albeit Adelaide in Adelaide.

As Collingwood and Hawks have a combined membership of 150,000 I assume we will hear plenty about the crowd today, which my partner said must have included double-counting to get to 50K. No?

Numerically the crowd was okay in the circumstances. However, the atmosphere was as flat as a tack. The only time that those in the section around me displayed any thing close to passion was when:
- they were advising players with no options by foot to "kick the bloody thing";
- the gent in the row in front of me repeatedly suggested that Jed Anderson may benefit from a run in the magoos or even reconsidering his career choices all together;
- Gibbo stepped out of bounds when taking a free; and
- some drunken peanut sitting up the back threw a pie into the crowd (I shit you not) and but for the absence of a rope, a horse and a tree, it appeared that a lynching was a very real possibility.

Without a doubt one of the worst games for atmosphere that I've ever attended and that includes the day at Arden St back in the 80s when we played the Swans in horizontal rain in front of about 4000.
