To think he used to match up on Matthew Richardson at 6'5 or 6'6...

I have an image burnt into my memory of Archer right on Richo's hammer as he was leading flat out up the Olympic Stand flank, Punt Road end. I was sitting a few rows from the fence. The absolute determination on Archers face not to let the bloke get away from him will never leave me. Utterly single minded.

I reckon every guy in that room listening to Arch talking about hating to lose a contest should watch some vision of Arch play to see that he 100% means it...great advice from the great man

I haven't seen the footage for years but I'll never forget how filthy he was in the 1999 Grand Final when even though the game was as good as over, Aaron Hamill took a rare mark in front of the great man. He was livid. Hopefully someone can post the clip

Yeah I’ve have almost identical at the G on AFL members wing with Arch bearing down on Scotty Lucas about to take a grab and him literally screaming behind Lucas “YOU WEAK C**T!!!” And Lucas fumbling the mark, Arch barrelling through him and away with the ball. He was an absolute beast Arch.

I was speaking to dougie Hawkins a few years back and he told me about the first game he played against arch. Hawkins has already played 100-150 games and was a star of the comp. Reckons he went for a mark on the wing and got hit from behind in the contest and driven into the ground . As he went to get up arch grabbed hold of him and said ‘the next time you go near the ball , I’ll hit you even harder’ . Dougie said that it was about archers 10th game
