Who?

I had a lobotomy after each season and can’t remember either year
Jason ****ing heately. A suburban footballer, the ultimate ****ing Kerridge. That campaigner played the best game of his life in that 97 pre lim. He banged em from everywhere, IIRC it was 7 straight and the beat goal kicker in history would not have kicked 5 of em. I’ve always wanted to give that campaigner a Liverpool kss

Huh, well there you go

And for all this time I blamed Jason Danitchenko

Yeh, bayswater.. nothing hard has come from there. Its where that kerridge kicked em from. A suburban footballer kicked a heart breaking bag on a suburban footballer. Battle of the kerridge and that forward had the best game of his entire life vs us.. it broke my ****ing little heart. I felt worse then than I did now

Nothing was worse than being 10 metres from Corey’s shoulder dislocation and the Bronx cheers from those gutsy Saints fans

I don't know about * being the best team in the comp 'by a mile' in 99 if you count the whole year.

They got flogged by some real average teams. 44 points to St Kilda, 37 points to Port, 74 to West Coast where they kicked 3 goals for the entire match, and 21 points to a terrible bottom 4 Melbourne side.

First match against them we were injury decimated and Mick Martyn missed that round 17 match which was a big reason Lloyd kicked 7 goals. They were better and would have been favorites in the GF, but only marginally. Yes Hird was out but for the whole year so he wasn't making a diff anyway.

We won a lot of games in 99 by smallish margins from 1-2 quarter bursts, as reflected in our %. But it struck me as a team that were arrogant enough to know we could turn the switch on whenever we wanted and still win.

With our talent we should have still been a big force in 2000 even if we weren't beating * or Carlton. We still won 15 games but the rot had set in and the hunger wasn't there.

Well I’m feeling justified as you all know I’m a huge Ben McKay fan. He’s a monty for AA honors.

Geez you lot sour grapes or what . The last 4 games Ben McKay has had a total of 34 disposals. Think about that for a minute. Yep a tick over twice a quarter.

Yes once every 15 minutes he gets the ball. I like it and wish we had kept him . Be surprised if he doesn’t win the brownlow

Not North related but...."Ross the Boss"? WTF?

If my boss was sitting second in my industry for longevity without ever achieving his/her brief, and had a record for his/her organisations being the least proactive, least dynamic and least interesting in a competitive industry, I'd want him/her to be sacked. A proven record of getting quality performers to underachieve as a collective, and to leave organisations worse than what they were when he/she started.

Yet, the media playfully refer to Ross Lyon as a 'genius' and 'the boss' without ever seriously questioning his results. Why is that? Because he's a reasonably good media performer? Because he's good at putting his critics in their place without resorting to straight out abuse? And very good at deflection?

Not a straight out critique of Lyon, St.Kilda or Freo. But the persona Lyon has built for himself that is unquestioned by the media. Like or loathe Whateley, but he was highly critical of Lyon when he left St.Kilda in 2011, and found himself frozen out for a decade.

Clarkson is a poor media performer. He speaks in cliches, lacks fluency or humour, reacts aggressively to criticism, refuses to play the game. He can't manage his impulsivity. He also has won premierships, shown a willingness to take on basket-cases, and is oblivious to his personal legacy. He is creative and innovative. Clarko's cluster? Lyon's....uber flood?

The juxtaposition between the media perception of Lyon and Clarkson is fascinating. Lyon is clever without results. Clarkson is troubled and volatile. Lyon has achieved little. Clarkson has only 4 coaches who have achieved more (McHale, Smith, Hughes, Worrall) - the most recent of which coached in 1972.

Very interesting take. Clarko doesn’t play the game and suck up to anyone.

Going from a score average of 0.0 to 0.1 has really rocketed his currency. 💲

Didn’t realise this, but McHale won five of his seven flags under the challenge system.
