Aidan Corr, Toby Pink, Bigoa Nyuon and Charlie Comben will not strike fear into the hearts of opposition key forwards, which is why the Roos will try to bolster their key defensive stocks through the draft and delisted free agency period.
Even after taking five draft picks the Roos have scope to add delisted free agents to cover list gaps including another key defender.

It feels like we might be about to get Highmore?

People forget that paul curtis is only 20 years old.

He has been a bit inconsistent, but with only 2 seasons and preseasons under his belt, IMO I think he projects as one of the top small forwards in the game. 17 goals in his second year, where he lives around the scraps of how heavily we target larky and with our relatively poor delivery inside 50 - I think that is actually incredibly impressive.

Have to say, Ralph's done a good job of his analysis.

Unlike most of his mates, he seems to have at least bothered to pay attention.

My knock is the general tone of negativity around how many holes we have to fill and how long it will take.

We have holes but Pies and Dees are living proof that you get your 6 to 8 A graders up and going, the rest can be pretty much be role players - including a forward line lacking key position grunt.

If we nail this draft by adding more top end talent and learn the art of recruiting good role players - things can turn quickly.

His crumbing work is very good. Knows how to get a good position.

That's something we've been missing since we had LT.

luck is a bit of a perception, i met a masai warrior once when i was younger who reckoned he was so much luckeir than me at the time because he had 3 cattle and 2 wives and i had none. truth is if he is happy hes lucky.
But what are you like when you find a coke bottle?

Agree on this, although he's more a medium sized wrecking ball forward pushing midfield than a true small. He is very young and has massive strength for his size - which will obviously make him a slower build athletically. Given how well he's done to date the upside is huge. The only real query on him is his very questionable goal kicking (set shot). It hasn't hurt him massively but it is clear he is very nervous and kicks around the corner a lot, other players have certainly made careers with this kind of limitation though and on the run delivering forward he is lethal.

Pretty good writeup given they are usually trash. A couple of minor quibbles same as anyone would have but at least he appears to have watched a game every now and again.

The only issue I'd take is with the flat out no finals for 3 years call. Do I think its a tough road, yeah, but I'd be more suprised if we didn't make finals in that time. Our task for 2024 is to take a full healthy list - with the majority of mature players in the 24-27 range and show a competitive team pushing for finals in 2025 and beyond, something that sells the club to fans and more importantly allows us to sell the club to the right kind of players to fill remaining holes next year by spending available cap money.

Agreed. Not bad for Ralphy. Mostly avoided laying the boots in about how trash we've been like Corn or Barrett would have. He makes some good points and it seems he actually watches games and knows what we have.

My quibble was also not even challenging for finals for three years. I expect a more competitive bottom 4-6 next year, but reckon we'll improve sharply from there. Port went from tarps and back-to-back 25 goal losses in 2011 to a Finals win in 2013 and a PF in 2014. Melbourne had won 10 games in 3 years from 2012-14 (only 6 if you discount expansion Suns and GWS) but won 10 in 2016, 12 in 2017 and were in a PF in 2018.

The wheel can turn quickly once we find ourselves.

A bit of a nothing article but I have wondered this a lot myself.

Think we would have won a couple more games and sewed up a top 4 spot with a fully fit duck. But nobody was stopping Brisbane.
We were done at that point and he was well past his best. We also got Wells out of it who instantly offered something in return. (In 2003 admittedly)

Zero chance of more premierships from 2002-2004 with Carey in the team. The Crows team at that point was better than ours and the best they could do was a prelim.

Yeah 03-04 he was pretty cooked. I think he himself said just a few weeks ago he ran more with the crow gameplan than his time at North and it didn't help his body at all.

We almost beat Brisbane at the Gabba in 02, only lost by 2 goals. Again I don't think we would have beat them in a final or won a flag but it's interesting to think how much deeper the finals run could have been. Half of the reason we lost to Melbourne was terrible accuracy especially the first quarter and a bit and with duck we could have done some damage.

We might have ended up on the Gold Coast. I'll bet he'd have been in favour of the move.

What if your auntie had balls?

We were cooked by the 2000 Finals. Wayne was beaten up through 2001. Even before the party at Arch's house we'd lost 10 players from the 1999 premiership team. The team rallied really well in 2002 without Wayne and maybe pinched a couple of early games on the emotion, but even with Wayne they were way off a premiership.

But to just add 2.5 goals to every game and say we'd have won the flag is as stupid as it is pointless.

Lions were wooden spooners in 2017 but began showing signs of turning with 2 wins over hawthorn, and have been there abouts at the pointy end since.

I wasn't tracking that we had signed Will Thursfield as our Recruiting Mgr in Dec last year. It'll be his first draft for us and potentially he may have a slightly different view on drafting than those that have gone before him. It could be interesting?

The article is %100 better than the sh1t we've got use to.

Not sure if anyone saw it but there was a notification this arvo about two players signing on. Can't find it now.

Its difficult to be worried about accuracy so early in his career. I'm looking forward to his next few seasons.
