Hiring Noble was good in theory. He'd been a part of successful rebuilds and we were trying to get our Fagan. It's too bad we ended up hiring someone who had negative football IQ and was an absolute campaigner to deal with at an interpersonal level.
Part of.the reason Fagan has been so successful is he knows what he is good at (relationships) and has been prepared to delegate some.of the more technical gameplan, strategy stuff to assistants.

Everything we know about Noble suggests he wasn't prepared or able to do this.

I think the other thing is, Fagan has always been good cop and he has had someone like Noble to be his bad cop. But as soon as Noble got through that first season of finding his feet as a senior coach, it was clear he didn't have the capacity to be good cop or delegate responsibility to someone else to be bad cop. So we just got frustrated, angry man out of his depth shouting at people and demanding they follow instructions that made them demonstrably worse.

So you weren't prepared to give Noble until the bye of 2069? :stern look

Listened to the whole Noble podcast.

As someone else said the first year wasn't bad and it appeared that we were on the right track with him.

Would love to hear audio of the spray he gave after the Brisbane game in round 2 of 2022. It seems thats when he lost the players but I also do believe we have had a very fragile group which is probably due to Brad in previous years. The Shaw/Polec/Cripps fiasco also springs to mind.

Hopefully bringing in these hardened senior players can finally rid us of this weak underbelly. Having said all that, Noble still a pretty awful coach, as was Shaw

How many awful coaches in a row though, before we realise it isn’t the coaches?

Noble has been a good operator in every role except our head coach. He didn’t have a long enough run at it to prove or disprove his ability. Remember, we almost won his very last game. Raises heaps of questions about whether he had lost the players. What would have happened if we had pipped Collingwood? Still moved him on?

He is not dumb, and this was one of the better editions of Sacked.

Correct. And he's the only bloke who has won it twice.

Maybe put it down to some dead cat bounce, but to give him some credit, his first 7 weeks of coaching in 2019 was the last time North were aggressive, exciting and fun to watch for a sustained period. Noble had a promising 5 week block in 2021 that had us "The best wooden spooner ever" and we had a nice block of mostly competitive losses at the back end of this year, but you have to go back to Rhyce in 2019 for anything genuinely good.

Sadly, it was too good as he got the job off the back of it, COVID happened and the whole thing went off a cliff and has never recovered.
Also had some horrifically bad results like struggling to score against Geelong.

It was sugar hit football.

A couple of us had a chance to speak with him just a month or so into that season and we asked him whether he was tapping Ben Cunnington for any advice and he said nup, not really, he just talks to his dad (presumably Fabian). Not only did he have no respect for David Noble, he'd already decided that there was nothing for him to learn from anyone at the club.
And Boomer. I mean come on he is/was just a campaigner.

Was Boomer a good leader though? He set a good example with his professionalism but did the guys walk taller because of him?

The only obvious leader when JHF was with us was Cunnington, who we never made captain.

JHF may have been a juvenile but look who he was surrounded by. At Port he has better leaders (sorry, but it is true at the moment) plus family around.

There is a reason we needed to get Parker.

And he’s still a petulant turd

They would have felt taller.

You show the games record holder no respect? By all reports he was not open to learning or taking any advice off boomer.

Maybe, but it smoothed over in that environment.

I do respect him for what he is/was - one of our and the AFL’s greats. Not just going to say he was a good leader though.

Uncle Ken would hate the little campaigner
Does it seem that way?

It is a huge ask for an 18 year to join a cellar dweller interstate as the next big thing. Compare this to Harley Reid and the infrastructure WC have around him. Or Cam Rayner at Brisbane.

JHF was simply not equipped and not assisted with us the same way.

To adopt Sheezel and Wardlaw… I like it.

Agree 100%.

I'm all in on Clarko but we've had some appalling losses under Clarko (2 years down the track) that are every bit as bad as that Geelong loss.

Was it? Still begs questions of the players.

Players and coaches can both be shit, it doesnt have to be one or the other. The football we played in 2022 up until the Collingwood game was some of the worst we have ever played in any era. At least under Clarkson we can generally score.

As much as we love to hate him, the only good period of footy we played under Noble was when Paul Roos sat in the box

Well if you are going to spin it that way.. how bout our leaders huh? JHF is a young indigenous boy, why didn’t Jy and co support him? Our only number 1 pick we have ever had. Good job leadership group

What do you mean if I spin it that way? I do partly blame our leadership.
