One incident involving Derm and Gary Lyon after Staker took a mark in the square, Gary said you have crossed his name out and Derm goes on to say Staker isnt a footballer.

Sure commentators can criticise players but a comment like that was really unnecessary and went too far. It was taken too a personal level, and despite Staker had taken the most important mark in the game to date they continued to barrage him with insults

Criticise, but theres no need to bully players like that. He had an off day today Staker on a good opponent, forgetting the fact he had a very good game the week before hand.

Very poor form and a reason why I cant wait till Channel 7 get the rights next year, they have class.

it was odd and pathetic.....VIC comenatators want the vic team to win and cant stand the way west coast goes about it....we were in front all game yet they were bagging US...have a look at the opposition...not once did Lyon criticise Gehrig for being lazy...or have a go at Riewoldts shonky kicking action......all they di was praise the midefiled because thats all they know (gee they read the paper!!)....no superlatives for Graham who was super and Brett Jones who was great...I dont think they even realise who brett jones is let alone give him a good comment

Contrary to popular belief, West Coast do have a player thats an excellent contested mark in their forward line and that bloke is Staker. That mark was not jagged

Who cares what the commentators have to say? The people who watch it ffs! I care personally, because I can't enjoy a game of footy anymore without it being ruined by smart asses like Dennis, Derm and Gary. They joke around more than they actually commentate, and in a very arrogant and irritating manner. To say it should just be ignored - especially considering some of the far less relevant stuff that gets posted here - is just foolish.

Contesting, he barely got near the ball cos he didnt make good leads. We play wide and it doesnt suit Telstra Dome, if they watched last week they would of seen Staker outbody Rutten twice and kick 2 goals because of it. It was a poor game, and criticism is fine but they went one step too far and got personal in there criticism based on really 2 qtrs of footy.

Im not insecure, I just think a player should be able to go out on the field without being insulted in such a way, If anyone can provide other examples and name or shame them go ahead.

The ironic thing is Staker led contested marks for nearly 3 months and is no 1 in our team for it.

No, it was a fair comment.

It was painfully obvious that Dermott and Gary don't watch the Eagles, have a pigeon holed view of how they play (bagging out the forwards at the half when they had kicked 5 of the 7 goals) and have little knowledge of the talls, such as the fact that Quinten Lynch does a mammoth of work and Brent Staker is a good contested mark. Simple stuff they would know if they watched the team play more often. I'm not expecting them to be diehards, but they do get called 'experts' don't they?

A good example is the fact that Derm suggested the Eagles should have picked up Sav Rocca last season and he would be a 60-80 goal forward. I'd expect crap like that from some no nothing on Bigfooty but it just shows that Derm has no real idea how the team plays and how they aren't restricted by 1 target (which is quite funny, seen as how one of them made the comment later in the game that a pass to Reiwoldt was cut off because 'they knew where it was going'). The team is 2nd on the ladder and has been performing for a couple of seasons now. Something has to be going right and I don't think old Sav Rocca is going to fix the obvious 'massive problems' Derm has picked up on.

It's to be expected. That was WCE's second and final Friday night (Ok, one was a Thursday night) game for the year. The commentators don't watch WCE week in week out and it shows. If WCE aren't piling on goals then it's easier to use one of the stock standard responses like "Gee, they should've recruited <insert other team's forward>, he could kick 80 goals with this midfield" rather than to actually analyse the game and comment, let alone display any knowledge of WCE's season to date.

I get sick and tired of all the talk about how we have no forwards, our forward setup is all wrong, the big forwards should be kicking the goals not the midfield, it never ends.
How about if we had our number one ruckman available then our FF could play in his position instead of helping out in the ruck?

Hansen and Staker were kept quite tonight by good opponents, so give their opponents some praise instead of bagging them. To say that Staker jagged a mark clearly says they know nothing about him as a player.
