I think my structure did well.

I'm laughing at people that took Knights and Adcock.

You can get the same scores from players that cost 200k less.

Job security is a non issue this year with extra trades/bench.

There is more room to move with a 200K player than there is with a 92k player.

Your post reeks of arrogance and ignorance.

Who is this mystery player who is priced at 23k and scored 76?

Come back to this thread with this same thought process after ten rounds, not one.

How many 20k rookies are fairly certain to average ~80 if fit?

A fit Knights is a bargain at his price. Solid scorer who's a sure thing so long as he stays fit. As opposed to taking a punt on a rookie who could go either way.

Is that right? sh*t. Looks like i better trade out S.Johnson (77) N.Riewoldt (78) and buddy (72)

I just don't think the job security argument holds water anymore.

They don't go up enough in value and they don't score well enough compared to rookies that are much cheaper (maybe not 200k cheaper lol)

Scully, Trengove, Barlow, Pods weren't dropped for good reason.

Paying extra for players that might have a more secure spot in the team is what I did last year. Ended up getting crippled by spuds like Medhurst.

I'm going full GnR this year and so far it looks good.

With the GC players coming in I don't think there's any chance I'm gonna cop a doughnut for a while even if I don't burn trades.

You just got hit by a double barrell shotgun followed by a few mortar rounds and you are still trying to justify yourself?

Let's see how things roll and we will re-investigate your theory come round 15. I am not suggesting that you will fail, but to dismiss selecting a couple of mid priced players because your selections last year were poor is quite a stretch.

Fair enough. I do get what your saying, though there didn't seem to be a Barlow, Trengove or Scully coming through this year though, a lot of unknowns with the rookies this year. With Knights though i was stoked with his 76. Didn't expect him to come in and smash it with midfield time, obviously were easing him in slowly and if he can get scores of that not even playing huge midfield time he's going to be a bloody good investment.

Well lets see how it goes. I posted my strat here before lockout to get some feedback but nobody responded to it.

Here is my team. http://dreamteam.afl.com.au/?p=other_teams&tid=80374&lid=1

I put in hours of painstaking research figuring out which rookies were the best and then picked them on the field.

Lower, Heppel, Pedersen, Curnow, Liberatore and Richardson.

Duigan and Tapscott were emergencies and not needed.

I feel the maximum cashcow output will allow me to upgrade hard and early.

Job security means nothing to me this year. Midpricers can be dropped for poor performances too.

To me JS means more this year then any other year I have played DT. Normally we have only ever had to worry about injuries but now you also have to put byes into the equation as well. We have multiple weeks with 3 teams sharing byes and if you have a player not in the side due to JS then you are going to be very lucky to avoid a zero. On top of that we still have injuries to worry about and with one less sub we could see players burn out faster then before and even needed more rests then the two byes each team has.

As you have said, you have picked rookies with high scoring potential but what good are they if they are not in the side 3-4 rounds later?

Midpricers normally have stronger JS (well the ones we have considered) as they are normally locks in the teams best 21 but have missed the previous season due to injury etc (Knights, Foley etc). You do have those that are looking to improve just on natural improvement or a new position (Ward, Fyfe etc).

And yes, midpricers can be dropped due to poor form but normally have a much stronger spot in the 21/22 then a rookie.

I know these guys did well in round 1, but I'd still like them to prove themselves when playing in the right positions. Don't see Libba staying around in the doggies with their outs. Can see curnow maybe just hanging onto his spot. Pederson won't play ruck as soon as someone else is back and then he's not going to be playing the same role, so will be interesting to see how he scores elsewhere. Though still very good picks on your part and i hope they go well for you.

I'd like to hear your justifications on picking Pedersen. I'm just going to say you got lucky with his round 1 score (if Goldstein played, he wouldn't have scored anywhere near that).

Grima, Goldstein and Petrie are due back this week. We are going to be very top heavy with Hansen, Tarrant and S.Thompson already in the side.

I'm not sure where Pedersen will fit in, maybe just play as the 2nd ruckman resting up forward. He may even be the sub, don't know.

Pedersen was arguably our best in round 1 so he'll stay in for a few weeks yet but for team balance, he will be dropping out. Especially when McIntosh returns.

Yeh i agree. He also affects Robbie Tarrant so people who chopped up with both starting on the field wont do that well too much longer.

I personally cant see room for him and i expect him to be a sub this week, even after his game, thoughts? or did his game even with the possible returns of the 3 you named still keep him in the side??

Warren, Mckinley will likely get dropped from the 22. Who the other is, im not sure?

Their only listed outs were Lake, Hargrave and Gilbee.

If Pedersen did not play such a good game, he'd be a monty to be dropped. He was just there to cover Petrie really. But he deserves a few more weeks based on that effort.

I don't think he'll effect Tarrant. It'll be interesting to see how Grima effects Tarrant's scoring but his spot in the side is safe.

The third omission is a tough one. McMahon and Ziebell both had shockers but can't see them getting dropped. I'd have said Atley but Scott doesn't drop a rookie after one game either. It'd probably be Cunnington who is a bit underdone.

Benno, what would you say Atley's JS is as a %.

Great start to the year Juggalo, well done. I'm interested to know how much you took the bye rounds into account in your start up team. In round 6 you'll be missing 3 premiums in the forward line....pav, SJ and buddy. That didn't bother you? And no petrie or tippet for a dpp ruck link so your banking on smith to get a game or take a donut.

Tough to quantify it, ABH.

We've got a few out in midfield so I don't expect him to be a regular but he'll play 10+ games.

Scott likes to develop the youngsters through the AFL rather than dropping them. If he performs well enough, he'll stay in.

At the moment though, he doesn't seem like he'll have a massive impact at AFL level yet. Hope he proves me wrong though.

It's gonna be a nightmare that's for sure.

I'll need all the GC rookies to play or I'll be burning trades.

I wasn't really trying to think too far ahead. I just wanted to pick the premiums that I thought would score the best.

I'm taking it one week at a time. I'm not going to hope other teams will be saving trades for later and holding back early.
