A little zinger from Murph on his way out :thumbsu:

This year has not gone to plan for the Blues, Murphy said, but he maintains the rebuild of recent years will soon deliver success once “the weight of numbers and guys that are prepared to work hard” strikes the required mix.

Congrats murph. One of the most exciting first half seasons I’ve seen. Would’ve been our first rising star if he didn’t miss the 2nd half with injury. Still almost won it I think. Had the greatest stop and side step of any player I remember and could take advantage of it with passes Inside 50. Was also a legitimate contender for the best player in the comp for a year or 2. Has been cruelled by major injuries which have left him a shadow of the player he once was, but I’ll always be grateful I got to see him at his best.

Well done Marc, a true Carlton champion...
While I wish him the best for this week's game, it's a bit of a shame that he couldn't do it in front of a live crowd in Melbourne.
I therefore ask why wont he wait until next week vs Giants, where it is a Carlton home game and a possibility of playing his last game in front of Carlron supporters.

Nice news too

From lekdog:

Although Ed Curnow got one tackle of the weekend to overtake Murphy.

Here are the numbers, Carlton stats leaders:

5th for games
3rd for disposals (behind Simpson & Bradley)
20th for goals (2nd behind Betts for listed players)
2nd for tackles (1 tackle behind Ed Curnow, Gibbs 3rd)
4th for rebound 50s
1st for inside 50s
1st for clearances
4th for brownlow votes
1st for contested possessions
2nd for contested possessions
4th for bounces
1st for goal assists

With the caveat that stats began being recorded in 1965 and certain stats only started being recorded more recently (such as goal assists or inside 50s etc)

And the top 10 at the club for tackles since the stat began being recorded, people hate on murph because he 'doesn't tackle' yeah not anymore because he's had like 30 surgeries and broken his body playing for us.

Ed Curnow: 202 games, 1042 tackles (5.16 ave)
Marc Murphy: 299 games, 1041 tackles (3.48 ave)
Bryce Gibbs: 231 (carlton) games, 926 tackles (4.16 ave)
Kade Simpson: 342 games, 893 tackles (2.63 ave)
Patrick Cripps: 137 games, 762 tackles (5.56 ave, highest average at the club in history)
Brett Ratten: 255 games, 752 tackles (2.95 ave)
Andrew Carrazzo: 194 games, 713 tackles (3.68 ave)
Matthew Kreuzer: 189 games, 681 tackles (3.60 ave)
Eddie Betts: 216 (carlton) games, 643 tackles (2.98 ave)
Chris Judd: 145 (carlton) games, 628 tackles (4.33 ave)

Cripps has the most on average and no doubt by the time he reaches 250 games will be the outright leader for club tackles, even if his average drops a lot by the end of his contract.

Wow the truth … I knew it existed … 👍

Glade we got him to 300 games, a shame we could not have given him more. Been a great player, chose to come to a terrible club instead of Brisbane at the time. Stayed onboard when the ship was sinking during the Malthouse/Bolton era while all the rats fled. He hasn't been the great player he was the last few seasons but so be it, it's a long toll playing for nothing with a body that's taken a lot of hits that really doesn't want to take any more for nothing to play for.

I really hope he starts on the field and plays in the middle an we manage to get up or at least put up one hell of a fight. IMO this is a massive test of where our culture is at, get flogged and IMO it's irreparable and a cleanout is on the cards or we put up a massive effort and prove that there is a glimmer of hope and honour a loyal champion of the club.

Well done on a terrific career in this game Marc and hopefully the team can get up over a pretty strong opponent.

Well done Murph on a super career, certainly one of my fave Carlton players, along with Davey Glascott, obviously Jarrad Waite and Kade Simpson. Glad he finally got to 300, thought the club could have made a bit more of a celebration around it, having previously said he'd not be gifted games to get there. Anyway, he got there, super bloody effort, super bloody player for a long time

Best game for the club was when he kicked 3/4 goals against Port to get us into the finals in 2013.

Was a jet in 2011 too.

Also that Goal against Freo was byoootiful
Agree. That last qtr was epic from Murphy. Put the side on his back and took is to the finals. That goal where he demanded the ball from Waite and kicked it was pure leadership.

Well done Murph on your 300 with us. I think more are appreciative than not of your contributions and you’ve given great service to the jumper. It’s a shame you couldn’t finish your career in front of the faithful, I would have liked and hoped to give you a nice send off in rd 23. Thank you for a lot of memorable moments, your captaincy and sticking true as a one club player through a lot of tough times of recent years. Loyalty is dying in world sport a bit so, thank you. Take pride in it. Go well on Sat :)

Get caught up in all the negative comments re murph and you forget how good he was
He was fast, courageous and oozed class

Hope we treat Walshy better when we have to get him over the line in 13+ years

Well done again Murph
