Dual premiership utility Robbie Copeland has re-committed himself to the AAPT Brisbane Lions.

Copeland informed coach Leigh Matthews of his decision late this afternoon.

The 22-year-old, who notched his 50th game for the club during a fine finals series, is expected back on the training track with his teammates on Monday.

“Because there has been a fair bit of conjecture about Robbie’s future, I can confirm he has re-signed with us,” Matthews said.

“We are very pleased he has re-signed with the club.”

Copeland was rookie listed by the Lions in 2001 and was elevated to the senior list midway through that season. He played in the 2001 and 2003 premiership teams.

The club should've got Rex Hunt to have a few words to Copeland about fishing spots around Melbourne - maybe even given him a cameo role on Rex's fishing show.

SEVERAL hours of fishing with mates at Moreton Island made Brisbane Lions tagger Robert Copeland realise what he would be giving up if he moved to Richmond.

Copeland admits to have been caught in the dream of playing in the midfield, but awoke to the reality he would be trading in his Queensland lifestyle for some bitterly cold Melbourne mornings.

There would be no spontaneous fishing expeditions in his tinny or the regular warmth of morning sun on his back in the middle of winter.

...

He could've driven down Punt Road, turned right into Fitzroy Street, followed it to the end and then he would have found a great big whopping bay full of wate and fish. Plenty of space to park a tinny!
