Jfc.... if we assume a 2% death rate that means that yesterday alone 3720 people will die from the cases reported yesterday.

For context, 2977 died on September 11.

14th November 2020 will probably result in a bigger loss of life for America than 11th September 2001.
Are these places not in lockdown at all?

I can't believe international soccer matches are being played this weekend.

I saw a clever analogy for the spread of Covid. You are in a craft group of 10 people doing their own projects. One person is using glitter. How many of you have glitter in your projects?

Doesn't take much glitter in the groups of highly infectious countries coming together to have them all sparkling.

At the end:
1. Zero of us have glitter in our projects.
2. There are 9 of us rather than 10, and a trail of blood leading in to the nearby closet.

I think that there is that much virus overseas that sports fans take it for granted that some members of their team will eventually get infected. The thinking seems to be, just another case of COVID and these guys are young and fit and will recover. If this happened to an Australian sports star he would be in isolation for 14 days not 7 and he would not be doing his 14 days quarantine in Egypt. It appears that after the 7 days isolation in Egpyt Sala will be back in the EPL playing where he left off and no one will care.

Victoria has done a spectacular job of turning around what looked a dire situation. Congratulations to Daniel Andrews and the greater population for not being bullied by vocal conspiracy theorists and grandstanding Federal pollies.

we sit back and watch the rest of the world be the guinea pigs for the various vaccines going around, wait it out for a while then bingo bango pick the best one.

We could avoid the I am Legend zombie apocalypse as we know they can’t swim very well!

Good thing both sides of politics embraced mail-in voting for the election.

Why super-spreaders should be vaccinated early

The priority groups to get vaccinated under the national vaccination policy are healthcare workers, the vulnerable and elderly and essential service workers.

Researchers from Macquarie University, Queensland University of Technology and the CSIRO have identified that potential super spreaders should be next in line, given the initial supply of doses is not expected to cover the general population.

Macquarie University computer science professor Bernard Mans said focusing on potential super-spreaders was critical because of the "cumulative effect" they have interacting with multiple people and locations. "The cumulative effect is based on intensity: how long you stay there, how many people you meet there," Professor Mans said. "There's a big difference between a waiter in a restaurant and client at a restaurant."

University of NSW epidemiologist Mary-Louise McLaws supports the idea, saying 20 to 39-year-olds should be among the first to receive any vaccination because they are more likely to spread COVID-19 through their highly social lifestyles.

3 members of the same SA family have tested +ve for covid, all classified as locally acquired cases. One member works in the hotel quarantine system.

A woman in her 80s presented at Lyell McEwin Hospital yesterday, where she tested positive. 90 people in the emergency department have been placed into quarantine.

That is shit news

Oh ****. Looks like a leakage from hotel quarantine. Now the task is to contact trace.

Sorta wonder how on earth that happened

Same way as the Melbourne leakage. Someone didn't follow the correct procedures. From early information it looks like an 80 year old woman's relative was working at a medi hotel and passed the infection on to her. The 80 year old is known to have visited several sites in northern Adelaide while infectious.

About 90 people who were in the hospital's [Lyell McEwin] emergency department at the same time as the woman — between 5:30pm on Friday and 4:00am on Saturday — have been put into quarantine.

Dr Spurrier said the 80-year-old woman also visited the Parafield Plaza Asian supermarket between 10:30am and 11:00am on Thursday while infectious.

Anyone who was there at the same time should monitor themselves for symptoms.

This pisses me off, someone obviously not following procedures properly. Just because a vaccine is in the works doesn't mean you can start cutting corners. Especially those still dealing with those infected. So much work to get to where we are (were?), it doesn't take much to slide. Do these people not look across the border or see what's happening overseas?

My gut feeling is that SA will control the outbreak. I know the contract tracing team is much bigger and better prepared than it was at the start of the pandemic.

I'm worried about the 90 people in Lyell McEwin's ED who are now in quarantine. Not only the possibility of staff/patient infections, but the challenges the hospital will face in finding replacements for such large numbers of clinical staff.

Yikes, my girlfriend goes to the Parafield Plaza Asian Supermarket (one of the places one of the patients went to) semi-regularly. Hasn't been there in a few weeks though thank f**k.
