Just by paying the security workers a decent wage they could have avoided lockdowns and the loss of millions.
Amazing how nearly every state has been so dumb.
They all still seem to make it their mission to visit 30 shops in 17 suburbs. Oh and all seem to belong to families that could fill a large conference centre. I'll update that to they should be hiring Introverts from small families only.

Pretty much what I did when we had our 6 day (soon to be 3) lockdown. Went to the supermarket 2 days later. Lo and behold, fully stocked shelves and almost nobody there. In fact more checkout people almost than customers. People are idiots.

3 days? 36 hours more like it.

Must have been hell reidy

They could hire people and offer them enough money so that they work in a FIFO style (hey look there's a hotel they could stay at), minimising contact with anyone outside of the hotel for a month or so at a time.

Well obviously outside the CBD in remote locations away from any towns (whether one per state or one for the whole country) is the smart way to go (but every state hasn't done, despite every outbreak), but if they are going to be stupid enough to base in CBD's then as well as better pay for FIFO type running, staff selection that minimises the extent of an outbreak if one does occur also makes sense. With IDGAF if it's considered anti-big family or anti-extrovert in said hiring practices.

they will keep f**king with our "freedoms" like this until we are hysterically and impatiently begging for a vaccine so we can "return to normal". you already hear people (i literally heard it from an esteemed doctor) hysterically shrieking to get vaccinated so things can go back to normal. there is no back to normal lol
Lol freedoms.

What a joke of course once people are adequately vaccinated , hospital admission rates are back to a sustainable rate worldwide things will go back to normal.

Interesting article online today that says the Coate inquiry cost 5.7mil and the Andrews Government spent 7.7mil on lawyers for their part of the inquiry.

7.7mil is a lot of taxpayers money when the legal advice was clearly "just say I don't recall" and everything will be sweet.

Seriously. Security guard at quarantine hotel lacking effective training re protective gear?
Goes drives uber whilst not working at hotel?Has flatmates doing likewise?

That was dumb before anything went wrong.

Pretty sure there was 4 full flights into Adelaide from Perth Sunday maybe 4 full flights Saturday as well.

I don't blame the worker, I blame to government for not setting ground rules for employment and monitoring for compliance.

but unfortunately low expectations are to be expected from our government in WA (both sides of politics).

One of the worse cases was the serial killer Bradley Edwards. Imagine having the serial killers name, DNA, finger prints, photograph, his Telstra work car, facial identity kit drawing and inability to arrest for 20 years.

We also have police involved in gang land shootings, car bombings and stolen gold smelting.

Yet WA is fast becoming a police state under McGowan and we have this level of competence and corruption to look forward to.

"back to normal" simply doesn't exist

To bring back the 'Port and the AFL' part of this thread for a moment, any chance of a normal season free of interruption is surely a pipe dream, as we're seeing with the AFLW now.

Whatever fixture they think they're running with should be scrapped. They've still got the opportunity to do this properly - organise a fixture with rolling hubs, designed to maximise fairness, with quarantine time in built between hubs. These people get paid MILLIONS of dollars a year and all they can come up with is policy on the run and hope for the best type thinking. It's a joke.

Of course it grows. Every hotel breakout from states seems to have involved people who worship the Leyland Brothers. Just once for a breach I’d like to see ‘The worker went home and watched TV and relaxed in their downtime, the list of exposure sights is zero’. Maybe they need to start personality testing hotel quarantine workers and only hire Introverts.

my concern is WA didn't learn from the eastern states regarding second jobs

Pay workers more, so they don't need to be an uber driver......especially given they are doing 12 hour shifts already

Don't worry, now Victoria isn't Covid central, I'm sure we'll get all 18 sides having to be there if the VFL gets it's way. To reward the Vics for having to put up with something similar to the non-Vic sides travelling every other year. Oh the suffering they endured!

Casual workforce awards is a federal issue.

Again at the end of the day this is left to the premiers to plug the gaps.
What???

The people employing can pay as much as they want!

Watch all the ex-coppers and ex-soldiers line up to stay at a hotel one month on, one month off for $200k pro rata.

As is, they are employing people on rates decided by the type of role that usually sits in an empty factory drinking tea all night. Costing millions when it goes wrong.

It isn't as if WA didn't get a warning after what happened in Vic and SA.

Jeez, they just stay at the hotel with the other guests ffs.

Disliked because I want to watch the games live, not because it's a bad idea.

If the AFL community is vaccinated by say June

Wouldn't that mean if hub up and get the first half of the season done they can all be back to "normal" by the second half of the year or am I missing something?

Youre living in a fantasy land.

Sustainable? What could be more sustainable than one single case? Even with the majority of people vaccinated, you'll still get more cases than ONE. What are you gonna do, lock the whole state down every time someone tests positive? There's nothing sustainable about this.
