There's also a culture of group sex as a bonding activity with the NRL. AFL has had it's share of sex scandals (although as noted less per 100 players), but they rarely have involved more than one player. We've had plenty of NRL one's of consenting and non-consenting multiple players and one (or at least many less) women. The AFL of course has plenty of players as a group going out and picking up (nothing wrong with that), but once hooked up it's every man for himself, not 'passing the shared prize' as the NRL.
I didn't mention the group sex scandals as they have happened in AFL but seem to be more consensual on average, than those in NRL circles, ie it has been a thing in V/AFL culture. When the shit hit the fan about 10 years ago in the NRL, especially after the 4 Corners story re the Matty Johns and NZ group sex scandal, some stories come out about AFL group sex stories and a couple of willing female participants talking about group sex and being a footy groupie.

Having lived in Sydney and SE Qld from the early 1990's thru to 2011, the majority of the off field scandals I saw reported in the media, were booze fueled, some drugs, but most happened after big boofy blokes doing stupid and violent acts when they were off their face.

Nah per 100 players, NRL has more scandals.

Its alcohol related.

Leaguies have to be bigger and stronger - A 188cm player in League can be about 100-110kgs. A 188cm AFL player is expected to be 88kgs +or- 2-3kgs, as they have to run all day. So Leaguies relax with beers as well as drugs, AFL players stay off the booze, want to avoid the fat club, but they get on the drugs, as that doesn't put on weight.

The majority of NRL scandals happen when players are pissed in both a public and private setting.

I agree the Vic media bury stories more than NSW media, partly because the class situation you posted above.

But they want to be close to players - be mates. Eddie McGuire as a young adult/journo in his 20's loved partying at the night clubs and pubs with VFL players. Became good mates with them. talks about it all the time. He knew which scandals to bury - and which ones to go after because he wasn't close to them.

Spot on.

As much as I love the NRL, there is a massive booze culture amongst a large portion of the playing group. A few of my friends who live in Brisbane regularly will see Broncos players out in a nightclub getting absolutely sh!t faced after a game, or they'll see them hungover at the Chermside shopping centre on a Sunday afternoon where they can barely stand upright.

What I'm unsure about is whether this booze culture is more reflective of the culture up in QLD and NSW in general. Not so much getting pissed every weekend, but the weather there certainly makes it more advantageous for a few beers at the pub on a weekend in winter.

The AFL has too had its own culture problems, but when you can test positive to illicit substances multiple times and get away with it, things are easier to sweep under the rug.

Its partly a Sydney/Brisbane cultural thing having lived in both cities. Sydneysiders definitely believe in the work harder / play harder mentality. The Leagues (licensed) Clubs over the years have impacted on the culture. NSW got pokies in mid 1950's and the RL clubs all set up Leagues Clubs and players worked there and were encouraged to drink there, mates rates and mingle with fans.

Plus the game is about going as hard as possible and smash into the oppo players running flat out at you. That will probably lead to more long term injuries, aches and pains and players use booze to help self medicate.

Well Pauline has copped the sack from TV. Apparently Ms Hanson called those in the Melbourne Towers 'drug addicts'. If only the Federal Parliament had such high standards.

Looking at those towers though they are a blight on Victoria and on Australia. The sort of thing you picture in London. There are exactly the sort of close living environment in which the virus has thrived in London and New York.

I do not think I would like to live in one of those things let alone be isolated in one for over a week.

Maybe so but if Clive Palmer wins his High Court case on constitutional grounds the judgement will apply to all States and no State will be able to maintain a closed border.
Not true. The judges will have to take into account emergency short term powers as the silks will put that in their argument

If the court makes a ruling they will have to take into account a true immediate emergency vs a long unnecessary conservative closure.

It won't be a simple ruling for 100% open borders in all cases. It will be nuanced.

If not then there is nothing stopping the feds to use their health and biosecurity power's and closing them down.

I grew up in similar, they are awful.

I've posted on this topic earlier and I think we have now crossed the threshold from justified emergency border closure to unreasonable border closure for every border that isn't Victorian.

Is the court case being heard now? I thought there was some talk about it taking a while to get on the docket.

I have no idea if it has been given a date/timeslot. If it was in court you would have heard about it in every news service.

That is fine it doesn't change what I posted. I posted 'if' Clive wins not if he will win. The question is constitutional and is quite clear cut. State Governments either do or do not have the power to close borders. Feds won't close the borders down as they are supporting Palmer's case which is my point.

Pauline Hanson should not be on any regular nationwide TV/Radio program dribbling her 99% of nonsense.

The infuriating thing is while I disagree with Gun Nation and 99% of Pauline I am forced to agree with the other 1% of her opinion. I try very hard not to but it is hard.

If it was around in Europe 12 months ago how come January 2020 was the first we heard of it? If it was present in waste water it had to be carried by humans. A dormant corona virus carried by humans that is activated by an environmental trigger is a bit too science fictiony for me.

There must be thousands of well qualified experts out there, all with a different theory and all with 'evidence' to back it up. The problem is they cannot all be right so I will stick with the Wushan Bats for now.

Well the "test" they're using for COVID-19 is a PCR test which is hardly accurate in determining whether someone has a specific virus. The lack of a specific and reliable test in this regard has made it very difficult to establish the origination of the virus. It should also be noted that a positive test for COVID 19 can actually just be part of the viral genome that is seen in other corona viruses, not specific to the Covid-19 strain.

I was very very ill with a ‘flu’ last June..different to anything I have ever experienced and I had received the flu vaccine that year..Was in bed for two weeks..just sayin’

Not according to the AFL.

AFL fixture boss Travis Auld told ABC Grandstand the league has guaranteed Victorian clubs they'll return home after round nine regardless of whether border restrictions have eased. - ABC Grandstand

Come in it’s the AFL, they will say almost anything to continue with the season. Unless there is 2 bye weeks, there is no way they will be able to return in 32 days time. 127 new cases today, I would hazard a guess Victoria will be looking at 200 to 300 new cases a day.

Back in my youth in the early 2000’s I was propositioned by a well known Crows player whilst out one night with a group of female friends. If I recall correctly he was married at the time. I would never lower my standards that far 😂😂😂

I don't suppose you were in Shanghai to watch the Power play on JUN 2 2019? Didn't partake of a bat sangger while in the markets?

I am no expert but I might have my own theory going here. ;)
