Now do it for the other states

The other states had done better testing than Victoria (they only started testing in meaningful way in May) and were down to zero community transmissions, Victoria never reached that low rate of zero cases.

Remember in SA when Spurrier said we had to wait 28 days to be clear - that is two cycles.

Victoria never got near to that low/no positive cases, the virus was still present in the Victorian community, I don't think it was shared around at the protest but the wider community said **** it there's 10k crammed in together that's the end of social distancing - hence the explosion in numbers.

There was a BLM protest in Adelaide too, and yet in the days after I didn't think to myself. 'Great, this gives me free reign to be a selfish arseh*le now'.

Did anyone see the stories of people sitting together in large groups shoulder to shoulder last night getting in their last drinks before the pubs close?
Shoulder to shoulder at a time when community transmission is at its worst.

You can't cure stupid, you can only isolate yourself from it, particularly if you are vulnerable to it.
If it was one of my kids sitting shoulder to shoulder at a pub in Melbourne last night they would not be spending the next 6 weeks living in my house.
But some will and their parents will get sick and possibly die.

But its just Boomers and sick people so who cares.

I'm very concerned with how many people have fled from Victoria to NSW and SA, the border controls should have been up before the lockdown notice was issued. Now we see what happens. How many asymptomatic carriers from Victoria will my wife be exposed to in her retail job this weekend?

The bigger issues is the completion of forms with regards to where each passenger is isolating, so that they can be checked on by Police or ADF personnel. In South Australia SAPOL are checking on individuals who have returned from Victoria, especially from the hotspot areas twice a day at present whilst they are in isolation. These people require evidence in the form of a letter from medical practitioners if the individual has to leave their house for medical treatment. I have witnessed this several times in the last week or so, due to my current work.

I heard one of the passengers interviewed on the ABC this morning. She was later contacted by NSW Health and was given the option of health officials visiting her or going to a designated point to fill out the questionnaire. She was also offered a test which she accepted.

Apparently the breach was down to Jet Star as they were supposed to hand out the forms just as they do on international flights. When the breach was noticed most passengers were recalled and screened all except for three have been screened and those three were referred to police. I imagine they will be fined and checked regularly.

I think the matter has been satisfactorily resolved but the link below has more detail.

You didn't and most here didn't. Plenty in SA would have. The difference is we had eliminated by then, so people (returning to) being dicks here in SA isn't going to cause issues. It was a low risk choice to allow the protest here (and most states / territories). It wasn't in Victoria.

Here in SA having effectively eliminated it before any other mainland state its also become something of a state based bit of one upping, so people have kept to the rules more and made it clearer they aren't happy with people who aren't, then states that lagged getting there. When you have a state that wasn't getting it under control as well (Victoria), when people were doing the right thing, there's also that lack of extra social pressure. More to make Victoria worse, there's all too human behaviour of 'We're ****ed even though I've been doing right, so I might as well do what I want anyway' on top of 'They got to protest, I'm going to gather'.

Victoria is a combination of poor political decisions, lack quarantines and selfish people. Too many people getting upset at not being able to sheet all the blame home to whichever group/person/activity is the one they want to hang it on, when they all have made it worse.

A couple of charts are illustrative.

Victoria never had the same handle on community transmission thanks to the Cedar Meats fiasco.

Also, testing in Victoria inexplicably dropped by two-thirds at the same time that restrictions were relaxed on May 26:

This is a very good point...

'But a key difference this time is that these new daily cases are mostly from people who have caught the virus here in Australia', says Katie Allen, Federal Liberal Member for Higgins, paediatrician and former medical researcher. 'It's not just the fact that we're getting a second surge, it's that we're getting a second surge of a different nature,' she told RN Breakfast.
'Last time with the first surge, 90 per cent of cases were from overseas and they were being contained and quarantined, and the remaining 10 per cent were being tracked and traced. In contrast, this time the vast majority of new cases are people who have caught the virus here in Australia, with many of whom it's unclear exactly where they picked it up.'

'With the virus now spreading locally, it's a much bigger job to keep a handle on the spread
', says Hassan Vally, an epidemiologist at La Trobe University.

We await today's results from Victoria, hopefully we will see a reduction on the previous couple of days but it is rather ominous that they have been delayed.

I went to (regional) Victoria last week, as I do on a roughly monthly basis for family reasons. On the way back to SA, we stopped at the Bordertown checkpoint and the police officer told us we now had to apply online (as of the day prior) before going through. My partner had no service on her phone, so the police officer gave her his phone, which had service, so she could fill out the online form. As she was doing so, he came to my side, rested one arm on the inside window frame of my door, put his head into the car no more than 6 inches from my face so he could point to the various boxes on the form and make sure that I was filling it out correctly. I was reluctant to give the cop some cheek about social distancing, so unfortunately just let it happen.... I hope he hasn't been working the border these last couple of days.

One other thing, no need to enter any identification details (i.e. drivers licence number, car rego) into the form; SAPOL would just rely on the address to do their iso checks. We could have put ANY name and contact details in there and SAPOL would be none the wiser.

The Flemington and Nth Melbourne Tower cluster totals now stand at 111. That is a real worry and has to be met with decisive action. Tough on the residents but that amount of infection got into the towers and spread somehow. That somehow could only have involved the residents.

53 cases in one North Melbourne Tower which will remain in isolation for another 10 days. Restrictions lifted in all other towers.

Another 165 today in Victoria. Not good, this is going to take some time.

Another 16 previous cases reclassified. Maybe the tests are not that good.

Its mainly double counting - ie people might have done a test then get a random knock on the door asked to do a test a few days later and the results take time to match up.

I asked the question the other day about Vic adjustments and the official press releases since then says the adjustment are due to duplication of cases.

I have been thinking about this the last few days since I saw something on PBS where in the States some jurisdiction are doing 10,000's of tests a day and can't keep up, and getting results are stretching from taking 24 hours to 4-5 days.

You would think Vic nearly doing 30,000 tests a day you are not going to get all results back in 24 hours.

gbear you are on the front line, are all tests reported in the SA numbers, processed by SA pathology or are there private test numbers done by GP's and private pathology businesses in those daily test numbers?

What about in Victoria, would they all be government coordinated tests or private tests in there?? Would the twice a week x 10 teams x (45 players + maybe 20 officials) a team tests done for a few weeks in Victoria be included in the test numbers the Vic government numbers released??

When SA was at 2,000 - 3,000 tests a day could SA pathology handle producing results in 24 hours? Think the biggest daily tests was 4,100 back on 23rd March. So the Vic equivalent allowing for population difference is about 10,000 a day with a peak of about 16,000. They have been at 20,000+ tests a day since 26th June with only 3 days where they have been 15k and 2 x 17k test days.

NSW did 34,000 tests on 25th May, 23,000 on 27 June and a hand full of days of 18k and 17k each.

Gives you an idea how stressed the Vic system might be.

I got family in Victoria too but wasn’t going to put my life in danger or anyone else around by going for my monthly visit !! Ppl like you will be South Australia’s undoing cause our government is too piss weak to just close the fukn borders until it’s over !!

Ok it's my 8 year old kid. **** off m8.

RussellEbertHandball all tests are counted in the daily numbers. Private pathology companies also have testing centres, but the majority is handled by SA pathology. Due to the increasing number of daily tests SA pathology are utilising all labs within SA at present to process the swabs. Turnaround time is currently around 24 hours, but a couple of weeks ago we drifted out to around 52 hours. We are averaging around 275 tests per week at our clinic.

We had alot softer restrictions than Victoria did so we didn't have quite as much pent up "frustration".

And there are more selfish a-holes in Victoria.
