I disagree with both of you.

We have not been slavish, in fact we have been the opposite, federally they wanted the borders open and we have resisted, which in part prevented the great Victorian evacuation from becoming a real issue here so far.

We have to keep the border to NSW closed past the July 20 date if our transmission committee on Friday say so. Marshall has given early notice of that for logistical reasons. Perhaps that will be reversed next week if NSW recovers, but I vote for caution. It allows us to keep our businesses open with less fear of reverting to lockdowns.

I'm not advocating an open border free for all. But Queensland were open to making exceptions for AFL players to fly in and out given their position of being isolated from the general public, and SA and WA weren't. As far as I'm aware there certainly haven't been any cases of community transmission in Queensland passed on by an AFL player. We weren't prepared to take that risk, but they did. So the fairest outcome is that they should get the reward.

Exactly. There was no willingness by the SA government to engage the AFL in a meaningful way to setup a quarantine structure for several AFL teams to come here and base themselves at Adelaide Oval.

The ridiculous scenario played out that Steven Marshall was proudly trumpeting to all who'd listen that weeks ago we could have 25,000 fans at Adelaide Oval. **** load of good that did, when he wouldn't let teams in to play there.

What a **** knuckle.

I was talking to a mate last Friday who runs a shop at Manly Corso. He reckons all the Melbourne players were swanning around Manly like celebrities.
Most sporting teams tend to stay in Manly or Coogee.

They won't be in Manly much longer as Gillion McLachlan has just announced that Melbourne are re locating to Queensland.

You know what? As much as I'd love to see it in SA, Queensland deserve it. They've rescued the AFL season while SA and WA sat on their hands and slavishly protected their zeroes.

The absurdity of playing last weekend's Port v GWS fixture on the Gold Coast based on logic that a 10 year old would be able to pull apart should rule SA out on its own.

Encouraging news but it will be two years before trials are complete. There have been some severe side effects in the early stages. Hopefully they can iron that out.

Morrison says he is sticking with a supression strategy and not going with elmination despite what the experts are telling him. According to Scott shutting down the Australian economy would cripple the nation. Do you have to shut the entire nation down to get rid of the virus? Most of Australia has eliminated the virus it is now a matter of getting rid of it in Victoria and NSW.

Scott says Australia is doing well as we don't have the mass graves that we have seen in New York. Of course we don't have the population density they have in New York either.

Not yet anyway

So when does the NSW outbreak justify keeping borders to NSW closed? ie at what point do government officials say, that outbreak from the pub in Casula has been contained. The numbers so far suggest it has not caused a massive spike like Victoria. Melbourne man is referred to as patient zero in other reports

NSW authorities say that a man from Melbourne who travelled on June 30 has been identified as the likely source of the coronavirus outbreak at the Crossroads Hotel in Sydney.

The state’s chief coronavirus “detective” Jennie Musto, who manages the team tracing infections, told reporters today the most likely source of the Crossroads outbreak was a Melbourne man who came to a workplace in Sydney. She said that the workplace was a freight company, although the man was not a truck driver.
“About six” of his colleagues were also infected with the virus.

The man and several of his colleagues later went to the Crossroads for a party on July 3, this led to an outbreak at the hotel, which is now linked to at least 34 cases.

The man from Melbourne didn’t think he was particularly unwell, didn't think he was sick with COVID, he travelled on the 30th of June, he’s been in NSW for a while and it wasn’t until we interviewed him and his colleagues with more detail that we made the link that they were all on the Crossroads on the 3rd of July,” Ms Musto said.

Authorities are not releasing details of the workplace but say there is no risk there.

There is a small difference between the NSW health site and the https://covidlive.com.au/nsw , think a timing issue, but the second site has back data, so I have used that.

Of today’s new cases, three are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

Ten cases reported today are associated with the Crossroads Hotel. Of these, six attended the venue, two are close contacts and two acquired their infection at a gym attended by a previously reported case. They are:
  • 31 year old male who attended Crossroads Hotel on 03/07
  • 42 year old female who attended Crossroads Hotel on 03/07
  • 27 year old female who attended Crossroads Hotel on 03/07
  • 14 year old female close contact of Crossroads Hotel staff case
  • 27 year old male who attended Planet Fitness gym, Casula
  • 24 year old male who attended Planet Fitness gym, Casula
  • 53 year old male who attended Crossroads Hotel on 03/07
  • 22 year old male tertiary case from Crossroads Hotel
  • 33 year old female who is a close contact of the Nepean Blue Mountains case previously reported who attended Crossroads Hotel on 03/07
  • 17 year old male tertiary case from Crossroads Hotel
Since 8pm last night an additional 1 case has been reported linked to the hotel cluster, bringing the total number associated with the cluster to 34. A male in his 20s who is a close contact if a confirmed case.

Staff and patrons who attended the Planet Fitness gym in Casula between 4-10 July are now considered to be close contacts and are being advised to self-isolate for 14 days and seek testing. Further investigations are underway.

Other venues attended by cases in the Crossroads Hotel cluster are under investigation. These include, Bankstown YMCA in Revesby, Woolworths in Bowral, Milky Lane in Parramatta (which was attended from 2 – 3 pm on 11 July), Bavarian Macarthur in Campbelltown, Macarthur Tavern in Campbelltown, West Leagues Club in Campbelltown. Everyone who attended these venues at the times above should monitor for symptoms, and isolate immediately and seek testing if any symptoms develop.

These are good points.

In my mind it was clear that Trump was using his NY brand of sarcasm when talking about testing.
Paraphrasing: "I said to him, I said, 'The numbers are too high, just stop testing already, whydoncha! You're killing me here!'"
(I should add that this is in no way an endorsement of Trump, in any way, shape, or form.)

It's sad it needs explanation. Such is TDS

In some ways - you mob should feel lucky that the SA Government has been so restrictive re borders. You get to live in a pretty safe part of the world.

Up here in Qld, you just know that the heavily industry funded State Government, alongside the economy first feds, will always choose $$ over individual safety - so undoubtedly Qld will blow up next after Sydney.

in terms of just the footy argument, I really Just want whatever is best for PAFC. I’m so happy the Vics are finally pushed out of the status quo. So I’m all for getting AFL teams into South Australia if it means we actually get some home games, and even some finals. And I think we all should be making noise about the advantage Brisbane will have if they get to stay in Qld.

I’d also hate to play at the Gabba against Brisbane in a GF, just like I would Richmond or Collingwood at the MCG

Maybe that's a good thing. The AFL is a bloated corporate mess. Maybe footy needs its world series cricket moment

A new, properly national league that isn't run only for the benefit of one state. A focus on the game and the fans rather than tv rights deals

I'm hoping that the AFL are losing a heap of money and are forced to cull 4 Melbourne clubs - send them to the VFL so their die hard supporters can still support them.

Back to 14 teams, closer to an elite national competition, not an expanded VFL.

If any stadium outside of the MCG was to hold the GF it should be Optus in WA. The Gabba is too small and too old.
