Some of the threads are becoming clogged with corona virus material so I thought it might be a good idea to start a separate thread. The CEO has posted a corona virus update to all Members so obviously the Club thinks the current situation is serious enough to warrant action.

From the CEO-

... the club has introduced a number of measures in the short-term designed to minimise the risk of our people contracting the virus, including the following:

  • Restrict tour groups and external visitors through the administration and training centre
  • For essential visitors, the introduction of a sign in register which will include questions around recent travel and current state of health
  • A travel register for all staff, including their direct families
  • Increased hand sanitisers across the entire club facilities
  • Implemented regular “super clean” of the club’s facilities
  • Limited external appearances for players and coaches
  • Closed access to all training sessions
  • Media conferences conducted external of the training centre

Under the advice from the relevant authorities, these are all important measures that we need to implement in the short to mid-term at least. There are likely to be more to come.

That last sentence is rather ominous.

Yesterday we visited the local supermarket and stocked up on soap and cleaning products. We did not take excessive supplies but you never know the toilet paper panic could spread once people start to listen to medical advice.

ABC is carrying a story that the Australian F1 GP will be cancelled. They are saying that the BBC's specialist F! reporter Andrew Benton has told them that a meeting convened at 2.00 a.m. this morning and that the GP has been called off and an official announcement will be made this morning. On the other hand the ABC is reporting that tackside officials and security staff are turning up for work .

McLaren has pulled out after a team member tested positive for COVID-19.

Lewis Hamilton has question why the F1 teams are in Australia.

I cannot see how the AFL can be deliberating whether to play in empty stadiums yet the F1 GP, which attracts a large number of overseas travelers can be allowed to continue.

In WA the RSL is considering cancelling ANZAC Day dawn services. That is an indication as to how serious the situation has become.

We await developments but I reckon an announcement will be made today. Either the race will be cancelled or run to no crowd.

I know a lot of people don't like Gill, but to be honest I don't think he or the AFLPA for that matter can do much more to be as cautious as possible.
With that said, I think it's a matter of WHEN not IF now, and Gill himself said he aims to play all 23 rounds this year one way or another. As long as the players and coaches are healthy then we can comfortably watch from the T.V and proceed with the season, but if a player catches it than the whole league would need to be called off for an indefinite amount of time. The unfortunate truth is that we don't know what the timeline for all of this will be, all we can do is prioritize our own safety and allow the AFL to do what it needs to for its players and coaches.

Looks like the AGP will be cancelled as the powers that be around F1 are meeting this morning after McLaren pulled out

but if it does go ahead, empty stands

F1 still going ahead? Money obviously talks.

That is correct, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has just announced that there will be no crowds at this weekend's GP. A decision as to whether the event is cancelled will be made by GP Organisers later today. Apparently there is quite a bit of concern among the teams.

Andrews also said that the AFL is currently taking advice from the Commonwealth and Victorian Chief Health Officers as to whether AFL games will be played next weekend. He did not sound optimistic about games being played in front of spectators. There is an emergency COAG meeting involving the State Premiers and the Prime Minister later this morning so I guess there will be futher news from that meeting. Meanwhile we wait.

Hopefully it doesn't happen but at the end of the day players are just members of the community and just as likely to contract the virus.

At a minimum the AFL will stop supporters attending games, at worst the season is cancelled, delayed or reduced.

So our 160th is ruined too but we'll be okay after that.

I like the "suddenly vanishing" bit.

What is more ScoMo says he is going to watch the Sharks and Bunnies this weekend.

I guess if you keep making predictions you will eventually get one right. Never the less it is uncanny that she got the 2020 bit right.

Browne also predicted she would die at age 88. She died in 2013, at age 77.

The NHL season has been paused as well. There is no way the AFL will be the only professional comp still running.

The NBA was suspended because a player tested positive. The F1 GP is in doubt because a team member tested positive.

At this stage no AFL players have tested positive and the NRL season commenced last night in front of a big crowd at NAB Stadium Parramatta. I think it is likely that the AFL season will start but games will be played at closed stadiums.

They could've made that call much earlier than this, what about all the people who would've travelled far and wide to attend this and book and pay for hotels, etc...etc...etc...

I hope they'll all get compensation from the VIC government.

The only sensible decision. Too many international travelers and if we look at the cases confirmed in Australia thus far almost all have come from people who have returned from overseas.

more reason why the call should've been made much earlier than this!. International travellers, we all know most cases in Australia have been from people returning from overseas. Pretty lazy by Andrews and the VIC goverment. He and they are going to get slaughtered for this.
