Sports and Recreation framework from ScoMo's A3 chart.

Step 1
* No indoor physical activity including gyms
* Community centres, outdoor gyms, playgrounds and skate parks allow up to 10 people
* Outdoor sport (up to 10 people) consistent with the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport
* Pools open with restrictions

Step 2
* Up to 20 people allowed to participate in outdoor sports consistent with the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport
* Up to 20 people allowed to participate in all indoor sports, including gyms
* Need to maintain an average density of 4m2 per person
* Pools open with restrictions

Step 3
* All venues allowed to operate with gatherings of up to 100 people
* Need to maintain an average density of 4m2 per person
* Community sport expansion to be considered consistent with the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport
So step 2 means no sports like footy or soccer basically.

AIS framework doesn't talk about 20 people. Its Level A = 2 Level B = max 10, Level C = Full sporting activity that can be conducted in groups of any size including full contact (competition, tournaments, matches).

This does not look too encouraging for AFL footy.

There is no indication that the Victorian Government is going to lift the two person training restriction any time soon. Andrews has virtually thrown it all back at the AFL saying it is their decision when they will resume.

On the other hand at the SA press conference this afternoon Professor Spurrier said the SA authorities were conscious of the need for players to be able to train for several weeks prior to the season starting. On the strength of that I reckon SANFL clubs will get the nod to start group training on June 8th with a start due when stage 3 restrictions are lifted, possibly in July.

Steven Marshall said that we should not expect to see big crowds at football matches anytime soon. I think we realise that Steve, at this stage we just want to see players in full training and the competition start.

So where to from here for the AFL ? If the two person limit remains in place in Victoria until June clubs may be going into the competition with two weeks group training under their belt. Shortened quarters and increased interchange may help and they may be needed.

So I was in Burnie today after the NW lockdowns were removed Monday for some essential shopping.

The entire town was basically as busy as I've ever seen it. I can't help but feel a second wave is inevitable

I went to our main shopping centre earlier this week as we are now allowed (even encouraged) non-essential shopping, and the place was basically deserted apart from the inevitable queue of iLemmings at the Apple store. It must be frustrating to own technology that requires so much support.

The link below is rather a candid synopsis of where COVID-19 vaccine trials are at. Apparently there are 102 trials in various parts of the world atm.

Hopefully one of the trials works out but as the article suggests it may take some time.

Not entirely convinced on those numbers, especially the first assumption of life returning to normal as of today causing 280k deaths.

Reckon the US might be going on a path that might give us the best test of those assumptions.

Clearly the teachers advocating for keeping minimal students at school are just doing it because they want more holidays. No risk, play on.

I really hope we don't find examples of this spread here

Would RSL Halls include the bar? Stupid question to which I suspect I know the answer.

What happened today was a political stunt intended to make Marshall and Morrison look good. What has Marshall actually given us?

  • Playgrounds are open.
  • Swimming pools open.
  • Regional travel restrictions lifted pity you cannot get a beer or a meal when you get there unless you want eat outdoors in winter.
  • RSL Halls open.
  • Outdoor fitness allowed.
A date of June 8th before further restrictions are lifted.

Went to my local shopping centre today, there’s a Coles, Woolworths and Aldi in close proximity. On approach you might have mistaken it for Christmas Eve. All approved and mandated under existing laws. But can you quietly sit in a cafe and enjoy a coffee and a brioche? Far too dangerous. And that’s what leadership and taking the hard decisions looks like in this country today. Let’s run a hundred thousand small businesses into the ground so that a politician can be seen to be doing something rather than applying an ounce of commonsense

SA presser - Deputy CMO Dr Mike Cusack

0 new cases so total still 439
2 active cases
433 cases recovered (+ 4 deaths = 439)
1 person still in hospital - has recovered from Covid - but not effects on his general health
68,000+ tests
1,335 tests yesterday
Over 60,000 individual SA residents tested.

Mentioned retail shopping areas a d getting busier - asked people to remember social distancing protocols.

Then took questions.

One positive test in 17 days and only 2 active cases on the books in SA.

SA,WA, Qld, ACT have all had no positives tests today.
Tasmania and NT still to report.
Victoria had another 9 positives but at least that is down on the past few days.

At this rate by June 8th SA will have had 47 positive free days 0 cases and we will still only be at step2.

The ridiculous nature of the Sate Governments current restrictions is that Football SA can divide the pitch into three areas and have three groups of ten train on the same pitch provided the groups maintain distance from each other. There is no stipulation that players cannot change groups and use the same change room and training equipment.

This bit from Marshall is onimous,

“I think very soon thereafter (June 8), as people are conditioned, I think we will be able to restart competitive sport.
We are unlikely to see competitive contact sports that require big teams resume until the end of June”.

and this

It is understood the State Government is eager to see restrictions on both amateur and professional sports eased at the same time.

So, does that mean Marshall does not want the SANFL to start until the AFL has started? If so the SANFL and even local competitions will be waiting on decisions in Victoria who are weeks behind SA in terms of containing the bug.

Steven Marshall has no ****ing idea about the set up of sport in Australia. He should be drawing up a time table for the restart of local SA sporting competitions irrespective of professional codes that are driven from interstate. That time table should be based on the COVID-19 situation in South Australia.

My understanding is they are doing it in stages in case certain things turn out to be riskY. They can’t have open slather. Grocery stores are essential services.
The leadership has been fine.

That's just lazy thinking - supermarkets are "essential" so we will allow them to open without restriction and watch as they draw crowds like bees to the honeypot because nothing else is open and because people want an outing. It would be far smarter to diffuse the crowds by allowing cafes and restaurants to open rather than having every man and his dog lining up at the local Coles. But for a politician to take that sort of decision they would have to be both smart and brave. And we don't have many of that ilk in this dumb country

So more like Switzerland who have a death rate almost 60 times higher then what we do ? Australia’s management of this has been as good as any other country in the world.
