Here's thought - the number of confirmed cases is increasing but we don't know what is happening with the total number of people infected. It could be that the gap between the total number of people infected and confirmed cases is shrinking as we test more people. This means that we could see the number of confirmed cases increase when in reality the real number of infected is falling. I think it's likely that this is happening and it'll be a temporary phenomenon but it highlights that there is probably a lag between the daily updates, maybe up to 1 week, and the real story.

51 new cases in Victoria, taking the total number of cases to 229. A big jump

At least it forced the government to finally revoke the casino exemption.

The rate of infection will definitely decrease once strict containment measures are implemented. This is probably not happening in Australia because so far our containment measures are a complete joke.

I don’t live in Adelaide any longer so not sure. But I’m sure the state government is looking at all options

The government is reopening ECH College Grove in Adelaide's north-east and Wakefield Hospital in the CBD.

We seem to be following old mother England when it comes to policy.
That shouldn't make anyone feel any better.

The thing is Crown is still open. Look at Las Vegas. All casinos have been shut down.

Hopefully it's just a matter of time. The current restrictions might put enough pressure on. Ha who am I kidding, $$$ > community health.

That is an utter farce and someone's head must roll over that. The Princes Line is lucky I am not El Presidente because their ******* ship would be impounded until they paid for the cost of tracking those passengers down. The Captain of that ship should have known the Australian isolation rules and would have known that he had cases subject to test on board. The Ship's Doctor had tested several passengers and was waiting for their test results yet the Captain let the passengers disembark. The Captain and the Cruise Line are just as culpable as the incompetent Port Authority who flouted the rules. If I were El Presidente there would be some hard gaol time done here.

What happened is a national disgrace and Morrison has to hold someone accountable.
Presumably they had the secret Hillsong handshake and/or pallets of black market toilet paper with which to hoodwink local law enforcement.

This is why "guidelines" and "instructions" don't work. Like the advice that there is no need to panic buy, human self-interest will always trump community concern. Yeah lock-down needed to happen pretty much from Day 1, but there were, and clearly still are, too many vested interests at play here.

The trouble is that Australians don't want to feel like they are being controlled by the government. Being an island nation, we had the chance to get this thing totally under control and failed spectacularly.

If we'd closed our borders a month ago, detained all citizens entering the country in specially set up warehouses at airports for as many days as required to get all negative tests, and closed the country down for a month or so, we'd probably have zero cases by the end and we could all proceed with life as normal just shut off from the rest of the world. Instead, at least tens of thousands will die, and our economy will get destroyed anyway.

Weak leadership aiming to appease a soft, pampered population.
100% agree.

Found this interesting. The following is the age profile for all Australian deaths attributed to the corvid-19 virus.
01 Mar 78M
03 Mar 95F
08 Mar 85M
13 Mar 77F
14 Mar 90F
17 Mar 77M
18 Mar 81F
Avg: 83.29 years

maybe they will use some of the old RAH buildings
Even if they could be brought up to standard the pandemic will be long over by the time that is acheived.

As Ford Fairlane posted, the government is recommissioning two recently decommissioned hospitals. Even that can't be done over night.

There was a 30 something Australian who died in Iceland. Guess that doesn't count as deaths in Australia but we did lose a younger person.
