McDonald's closes 12 restaurants in Melbourne for cleaning after a delivery driver tests positive.

Victoria has another 6 positives racked up by 8.30 am. today. I think a few people in Victoria should have their fingers crossed as Andrews is racing into lifting restrictions while the State is still recording positive test results.

Since May 2nd Victoria has registered 200 positive test results while SA has recorded 1 positive test result since April 23rd. You have to ask what is going on? Is Andrews jumping the gun or is Marshall too cautious or is it a bit of both?

FWIW I think SA is going about this the right way. When you do lift restrictions, you'll be in a good position to be confident about limiting new outbreaks. You just need to keep Victorians out for a while longer. Unfortunately we here don't have that option. Fingers crossed.

6 cases really isn't much though, especially given the context (3 returned travelers, 1 family member of another confirmed case, 2 linked to the maccas breakout) - as long as they can trace the virus then it's not much of an issue. Getting to 0 in Victoria is pretty unlikely given they had a decent amount of community transmission but since we're aiming for suppression rather than elimination there is no need to hold the economy down when we have successfully suppressed it (for now).

The CMO in Victoria is pretty happy with the community transmission numbers, especially in light of the recent testing blitz which is still ongoing. I can understand why the restrictions are being lifted.

You can count all the dead old people. You can do that now.

I said I didn't agree with their approach and it was for precisely that reason. But I don't believe Sweden's strategy can be judged from an economic viewpoint for at least a year. And to say that Sweden's economy is going to decline at the same rate as all other countries can be taken to mean their economic strategy failed because their economy is currently stronger than most other European countries. It's like saying all football teams are going lose 7% of their revenue as a result of the pandemic. That means jack shit to Collingwood, but it would cause other clubs a shitload of trouble.

I'm not defending the path they took. I disagreed that the article was saying Sweden won't benefit economically from their approach.

An issue being Victoria does still have community spread and we are moving into winter without knowing how much of a kick COVID-19 is going to get with the colder weather in a high density city. We don't have community spread and I believe we've killed it off. Victoria and NSW are offering us the opportunity to bring it back into the state in what could be perfect conditions for COVID-19 to get a little momentum back. We won't shut the state down once it's open and we are at the mercy of a couple of states that couldn't give a shit what happens here. NSW in particular has form for incompetence and mismanagement. It's actually in its DNA.

We'd be stupid not to see winter out or at least a couple of months of winter out to watch NSW and Victoria stuff up or otherwise before we open borders.

On the flipside, how many people do you think are queuing up to come to Adelaide in Winter where the pubs and cafes are shut? No festivals etc this year. If the borders were open and I lived in Vic/NSW I'd be heading up to Qld like a shot.

I don't think we are going to get overrun by visitors from the eastern states. Perhaps enforce that anyone who comes here has a negative test result/certificate otherwise they get quarantined.

Another day of zero new cases in SA, just goes to show that not letting AFL teams train is working. o_O

Another ZERO, effectively 26 in a row (14x0, 1, then 11x0)

Almost 1 in 1,000 in the state tested after yesterday hitting that target

Let’s say I go to Melbourne just cause I can, catch pox then bring it back here, that’s all it takes. I’d keep borders closed until.....

The South Australian government will introduce specific and targeted COVID-19 testing for high-risk workers and social groups as the next step in the state's fight against coronavirus.

Transport, health, seasonal and aged care workers, along with prisoners and the homeless, are being prioritised under the Active Testing Surveillance Framework.

Non problem with that.

SA is currently leading the country in testing and should be applauded for its proactive approach.

Is Annastacia Palaszczuk setting her government on the path of losing office? The idea was to flatten the curve. The curve is flat. We did it. I don't think the patience will last long.

How's the different numbers of cases between the two countries?

Everytime I see Palaszckuk at those daily pressers I can't help but put on a Dame Edna voice and replace what she says with - Hello boys and girls, I've got some news about the virus. We are doing very well boys and girls, but we have to make sure we do the right things, don't go leaving your home ........ and go Queensland.

I know that is unfair but the way she delivers her speeches is like she's a grade 1 or 2 teacher addressing her class.

The entire point of the lockdown was to reduce the burden of the health system and to buy time such that the health system could be bolstered to handle an increased capacity going forward.

As it stands, my understanding is that we have tripled our ventilator supply in Australia and have 7500 of them in our hospitals. Given that only 1% of people based on the stats actually require to be on a ventilator, that would mean that for our system to be essentially overburdened, a staggering 750,000 people must have the virus at any given time. To contextualise this, we have had barely 7k cases to date.

The numbers emphatically suggest that we should be opening things up a lot quicker than we are. As much as i think Dan Andrews is an egotistical prick, he is doing a good job fast tracking the Victorian economy back relatively swiftly. Then there's Marshall who will stop at nothing and actually hinder the economy all to keep his precious zeroes. If all you were concerned about were your zeroes, you may as well never have increased your medical capacity (like the reopening of college Grove rehab hospital) in the first place.

Ventilator or no ventilator, for some people this is a death sentence. There is no cure, and just because it's under control current doesn't mean infection will continue to play nice.
