Nineteen European countries have crossed a key threshold of new coronavirus infections, with Spain’s figures particularly worrying.

According to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the countries have recorded cumulative 14-day infection totals higher than 20 per 100,000 inhabitants, considered an early alarm level by many health experts.

Luxembourg and Spain have reported more than 100 new cases per 100,000 people in the past two weeks, the figures show, with Malta recording more than 80, Belgium more than 60, and France and the Netherlands more than 40. The UK has 20.7.

And people wonder why 20-30 year olds are responsible for the most cases. So selfish.

Good chance at least one of them will bring it home and kill someone elderly they love. So I like to think at least they'll pay for their stupid concert

It’s the bra boys man. No virus will touch them.

Meanwhile back in Sweden
They are going to open their schools this week and some want to introduce compulsory wearing of masks

“One point would be to keep schools open to reach herd immunity faster,” Tegnell commented. Salminen replied that the Finnish health agency had considered this but rejected it because “over time, the children are still going to spread the infection” to other age groups.

Finland’s modelling suggested closing schools would reduce the spread of Covid-19 among elderly people by about 10%, Salminen said in the email. Tegnell replied: “10% might be worth it?”

Tegnell, who has repeatedly argued that children generally suffer only mild symptoms of the virus and do not spread it to any great extent, has denied authorities decided to keep most schools open in a quest for herd immunity.

Authorities estimated that 40% of Stockholm’s population would have contracted Covid-19 by May, but national studies have found immunity to the virus remains relatively low and a study published last week in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine concluded herd immunity was “nowhere in sight”.

Swedish schoolchildren of all age groups return to class this week, prompting alarm among some parents and a call from experts and academics for a “more responsible” policy, including making masks compulsory in schools – which Tegnell does not support – and enforcing physical distancing rules.

The BLM matter protest sent out the wrong message. So I went to a party.

It's all insert name heres fault!

Only 220 cases today

Well at least it does clearly look like it’s working and be confident that 25-50% of those new cases are in nursing homes or known outbreaks

In 4 weeks time there gonna have to restrict some of these restrictions smartly. I’d be leaving restaurants closed, keeping the curfew (or maybe extend it to 10 o’clock) and allowing 1-2 people into a household

Small steps that people will not be allowed to abuse and limit spread, but he is gonna have to restrict some things or will people will not cope with it

Revisit in another 4 weeks and do so till the numbers are at a NSW level

Learn from ur mistakes last time Andrews u clown

The end of summer holidays will be their true test as everyone heads back to normal activities. Will be interesting to see if they have to restrict their citizens as their Nordic neighbours are doing again.

Lowest daily total for new cases in a month which is good, we know the deaths unfortunately lag behind the cases by a week or two so we are going to have deaths continue like they are for a while yet I imagine

you want someone to kill their grandparents?

A high quality copy of the genomics evidence from yesterday

The Age reports that Transmission Network 1 is Cedar Meats, Transmission Network 2 is the Rydges Hotel, Transmission Network 3 and 45_A are the Stamford Hotel.

I suspect 4_A is the Banyule Bar cluster

so what exactly are you liberating? sounds like another month of the same thing...

The whack-a-mole in NSW, whilst successful thus far, doesn’t feel sustainable.

The Flemington Markets case in particular is a real worry.
I'm watching NSW and NZ with interest.
Vic tried to stay open during and quickly lost control of it and then took half measures until ending up in stage 4

I get why they did that they were trying to see if they could contain it while staying open. They had the PM saying that we couldn't afford to lock down again etc

NZ just straight away shut everything down in Auckland to try and contain it.

NSW trying what Vic did to begin with, be nice if they got it to work but I've got mates in Sydney who now can't book anywhere away for a weekend because the country towns in NSW don't want them.

Yep, we own a holiday house up the Central Coast, but a number of local venues are now checking ID for local post codes and restricting access to us filthy Sydneysiders

There are also local clubs restricting access by postcodes (excluding some from hotspot areas mostly) and some hotspot areas feature restaurants returning to take away only (no dine in)
