No it just confirms positive. They have beeno sequence it if they want to know, they've mostly stopped doing that
They test all cases in high risk settings (Aged care, prisons, ER) for strain (everywhere in the country). They test a sample of 5-10% (depending on case number and facilities). WA are still testing every positive for strain.
So when Scott Morrison says things like the below it's not entirely factual?

“It's important that with the rising case numbers we see, that the severeness of this illness is already being shown to be around 75 per cent less than what we saw with Delta,"

The Prime Minister said the next "most likely reason" people are still being hospitalised is because they have the Delta rather than the Omicron variant.

“Omicron is overtaking now the Delta variant of this virus. The Omicron cases that are finding their way into the health system are very, very, very small.

The slightly less sceptical response is they are still testing in NSW/VIC so they do know the percentage split but with a greater level of variance than before.

Previously when I said ER I should have said hospital/ICU.

But also what Gralin said. Scomo's a w***er.

Started feeling really unwell out of nowhere and can’t find a RAT anywhere. Do stores get these in daily?
My advice would be to head down to Coles or C Warehouse very early
It's a bit like toilet paper 2 years back - supplies delivered daily but gone first 30 mins

With every positive test do they determine whether it is Delta or Omicron?

As Nothing said, they are restricting the genomics to certain location and random samples of cases, the publicly available samples on Nextstrain don't have anything from the past 2 weeks from NSW and Victoria.

Because the other states are no longer sampling like there were in previous months, this is skewing omicron to appear less frequent, but as more genomics samples start getting uploaded, you'll see Omicron surge, probably to 95%+ in a matter of weeks (an amazing shift considering Delta was making up more than 99% of sampled cases in November in Australia).

Going to be a nightmare for employees/employers. Will workplaces accept a positive rapid test for sick leave and if so will they also accept a negative rapid test to allow people to return?
Workplaces are going to have to rethink things for the short term at least.

My work and multiple others I know staff in the office and really only working from home if they believe they’ve got Covid and need a test. This was leading to people coming in the office with sniffles because they couldn’t be bothered going to line up for a test or they felt a test was a waste of time for what they had.

Now it has all changed with this variant possessing some very mild cold like symptoms for people that could easily pass as a common cold. With how transmissible it is as well, it will already be too late a lot of the time when someone walks in with the sniffles because they’ve probably had it for a few days prior.

Easy for people to say stay away but culturally I don’t think I’ve seen much of a change in thinking in regards to this stuff even after what the world Has endured since March 2020.

With the push toward RATs and with so much Covid around you’d have to think some of these places change their thinking.

Are we going to be expected to do multiple rapid tests over a few days to confirm we truly don’t have it? After all they are fairly accurate but don’t pick it up as early as PCR tests so are more accurate across multiple days.

Are employers going to be okay with multiple Covid outbreaks a year forcing people to take time off and therefore reducing productivity just to get them in the office?

Sick leave is interesting too. Cop multiple bouts of Covid in a year (unfortunately a possibility) and you won’t be left with anything.

Lol these 'experts' just won't quit with their lockdown agenda, which they believe gives them sexual powers.

Two epidemiologists have said they believe Victoria and NSW could be heading into another lockdown without stronger measures to limit rapidly rising case numbers

So the guardian says COVID positive nurses working as shortages.
I gather Murdoch press be saying it all ok and not true
Truth probably in between

I know click bait news although pretty sad someone catch up with vulnerable people while they know they have COVID https://www.news.com.au/world/coron...s/news-story/fb65cb968838a0f299a67aa864c68fc3
