The fine thing is really irrelevant in this instance.

If it's graded high (and there was contact to the head) it's only a fine if it's low impact.

High contact, medium impact is two down to 1 with a plea.

So he only gets off if it's no case to answer. Fine won't matter

that's the tricky bit here. Delayed onset of concussion, how can we be sure that it was a direct result of cotchin's bump, and not as in that clip astbury holding his ground front on. Tribunal would be VERY interesting if an onset concussion rubbed a player out and the defence was to argue that point
Leon Cameron's comments on the Cocthin v Sheil incident in his presser gave me the impression he wasn't happy about sheil getting floored but went on to say there was nothing in that specific incident and in his view Cotchin had nothing to worry about.

Yeah exactly mate, would be interesting indeed.

Could be that if the MRP were to rule against Cotch, they'd have to prove that it was he alone who was responsible for Shiel's concussion - or at least, that might be a point that the defence would raise.

Stolen from main board.
Means a GWS medical report can’t possibly say Shiel was concussed. The fall out from a doctor allowing a player back on after a concussion would be huge. Then all you really have to argue is that Cotchin was going the ball, and since he actually won the ball, it’s stupid to argue otherwise.

I think both will go :-(

Cotchin clearly catches him high. The MRP might find it was incidental contact, but I don't think we're going to be that lucky.

Ellis bumps and catches the player high. Whitfield was clearly stunned. He might get away with low force, but I think he's going to get 2 down to 1.

Markov in for Ellis. That's a huge ask for the lad, but I think he can do it.

We simply don't have a replacement for Cotchin. Caddy and Townsend will need to play serious midfield minutes we'll bring in one of Miles, Lloyd, Cellis or Bolton.

I pray that I'm wrong and the MRP gives everyone a free pass for the GF!

Cheers.

Shiel looked fine 3 minutes after the incident when he got the ball and pumped it in long into the foward line but later had the issue (was it the Astbury bump or the cotchin bump ) - I think he gets off

Bellis is in more danger but with a clean slate it would be a harsh call for a 1st offence from a clean player

I think it was pretty clear Cotchin was going for the ball and he's allowed to brace himself in the contest. The contact was incidental.

As for Ellis. See if you can find vision of Ollie Wines hit on, I think it was Goldsack, in the Port Adelaide vs Collingwood game late in the year. Almost identical and Wines got off. If there's any consistency then Ellis should be fine.

Cotchin will be fine. Cant hold people accountable when there is no hint of negligence involved. Two players going for the ball and accidental head knock.

Ellis should go, but as others have pointed out, if there is even one precedent that gets him off the AFL should be using it after a prelim.

If Cotchin goes we may as well make the game touch football.

You aren't allowed to dive on the ball anymore in case it makes contact with the knees so honestly what is his only other option in that situation? To go body/head first and keep your feet .... he actually won the contest.
