Could Essendon be big improvers

I saw 4 - 5 on TV and a couple live. You'd watch him a lot more than I would and it' my view only but the need to think is what I mean by lack of instinct. A reasonable comparison is Cross, they play similar games, who gets the ball off quickly to what I imagine he perceives to be a good option.

Reasonable comparison? One has played 70 games, the other has played 30.

Jobe has an incredible football brain, reads it as well as anyone at the club. You have a point about his instincts, but I don't think it is a problem with his actual instincts, rather just a lack of experience and confidence to use them and a lack of options around him.

Jobe isn't a finished product, he's going to take another 40-70 games before he reaches his peak.

You know nothing, nothing at all, about football.

You've just proven it.

Um. I didn't say they are bad players, i singled them out as decent players who put in bad seasons. You disagree?

This post has turned into bummers fans slapping one man on the ass for a post which says nothing!

I'm not going to argue because if you think NLM had a bad season you know nothing about football and you should remove yourself from this thread.

It's that simple, it's not bias, it's purely a matter of you knowing nothing about what you're talking about.

Lovett had some injuries & personal problems so had a crap year - no arguement there but Lovett-Murray actually had his best year so far. He actually really stepped up & was having an impact (until he got reported). Lobbing these 2 together & saying they both had bad years simply shows your ignorance

What he was saying is that Essendon (& I'm sure most other supporters) are sick of hearing from feeble Hawks supporters about how your kids are all the greatest things ever & how fantastic you've done & how wonderful its all going to be. The reality is, you are no different to Stkilda in that you have been crap for a long time & as a result of the AFL's policies you have been afforded multiple high picks. Its nothing to be proud of!

But it did change, meaning your superior recruiters were quite lucky in comparision to ours.

The system has nothing to do with it. You said we had all these draft picks from being poor. You were just as poor, the only difference was the system changed.

Um, my point is that we didnt necessarily get all of our picks from being poor? We traded well and secured plenty of early picks to bolster our young stocks. For example - Grant birchall was one of the players we picked up as a result of the Hay trade. Do you need me to explain it in any more detail? Yes we got picks for finishing low, so did you. You have had two equally terrible seasons as us, the only difference being we got priority picks in the first round and you didnt. Not our fault!

Hope you enjoy your stint at the bottom of the ladder! I can't argue with our finals appearances or blame it on anything. Every team has setbacks. But all i can say is i think you are in some strife. Some of your best players are in the very twilight of their career, and you showed this year that without hird / lloyd you struggle to win games.

Solid effort here champ...having a crack at 1st year players. Absolutely **********-weak.

And?? Patrick Ryder was pick 7. Ok give him time, i basically mean he hasn't really shown much. And there are PLENTY of first year players who show HEAPS in their first season

Roughead ******** up my dreamteam this year (but should be good), Franklin should be good, Hodge is a given and Birchall was good in his first year. All the others are just as unproven as ours. By the way, Lovett-Murray had a very good year and Lovett in a poor year was still better than your chicken hawk dud captain. Both are 24 now, so I don't view them as kids anyway.

To each his own. I know there will be bias with every team. I think i may have to retract my lovett murray statement. I bundle them together and get them confused. I know Lovett (the one who won the anzac medal last year?) had a whole host of issues. And i THOUGHT lovett murray was quiet too but i guess not....

You must think the world of Dowler then.

Nope... Didnt really show much in his first two games

Oh that's right, you don't rate Dowler...you can magically tell how good or bad someone is based on 2 games.

Didn't say he has done much, i just cant rate him. He didnt show much of anything in his first two games and is baiscally untested. I dont think hes crap but how are you meant to judge? All i said is he didnt show much in his two games. Does that make him crap?? No. Does it mean i think hes going to set the world on fire?? no..

34. They play a similar game, Cross is one year ahead of Watson, having been recruited in 2002 to Watson's 2003, although he has squeezed in about a year and a half more games. Both found it difficult to get a consistent run of games, Cross got his opportunity in 2005 and went on with it this year, Watson got his break this year and I imagine you'd predict he'll go on with it next year. A reasonable comparison.

Except Cross has always (as far as I know) played as a midfielder, Watson spent the best part of his early developing years in the system as a key forward.

36 games is a huge difference in experience for young players.

He was nearly the youngest player drafted, a year ypunger than the other players who showed HEAPS.
Basically he was a skinny 18 yr old who managed about 10 games agaisnt 100 kilo monsters.
Good ruckman like Cox, Sandilands and Hille did no where near as much as 18 yr olds.
I think he has shown enough.

Ryder is actually five months younger than Gumbleton.

Name the young ruckman who have shown heaps in their first season?? You cant compare the talls with the plenty of midfielders that show a bit.

Well I think Essendon are on the money to come back next year, with a forward line Lloyd, Lucas Hird, Lovett, Monfries and Johns there is a well balanced forward line, the backline will be McVeigh, Fletcher, Michael, Lovett Murray, Bradley and McPhee the backline start to look fairly solid. The only problem is Mark and Jason Johnson, Stanton, Campo and Jobe Watson have to really got to step up and get our midfield going. Hillie and Laycock can ruck, Hille is the biggest key and it wether he can dominate the ruck. We have good young players in Ryder, Gummerlton who is playing seniors in WAFL and Jetta appartley goes alright to Willie D*ck son appartley has a massive kick and can play so the future is looking real bright.
