Countdown clock killed the suspense

Couldn't agree more. You knew as soon as the ball was cleared that it was going to be a draw. Plus you knew about 15 seconds earlier that it was too far down the field for Collingwood to score again, so they couldn't win.

You can argue that it contributes to tension, but in the end all it does for me is bring me a little closer to death due to my heart rate reaching ridiculous levels.

Besides, the countdown clock can add more tension on occasions, such as when someone takes a mark outside 50 with a few seconds left and you know for sure whatever happens next is going to be the defining play.

Yeah look this is probably one of those 50-50 issues but personally the count-up clock does it for me.

agreed, it was still extremely suspenseful, but i could've handled even more on Saturday. GoodesStuff has the idea.

I agree. Being at the game, people on their radio headsets were givign away how much time was left. I looked up at the clock when Dawes had the ball and the clock was at 28:41. I was hoping for a short quarter before the guy said 3 minutes left LOL

Knew he had to kick the goal. He didnt and it was game on. :D

the count up clock is ridiculas. i am glad they have the count down clock on 7. to say it would have been more insane without the the countdown clock. is just ridiculas

Channel 10 clock is perfect I reckon. It's ok if Channel 7 have a countdown clock, but for the finals they should really do what Channel 10 do and not countdown the last 5 minutes. Creates a massive amount of suspense, especially for the Grand Final.

This.

The countup is shit on channel 10. If you really like the suspense cover up the time on your TV.

Yeah cause we're really going to sticky tape some paper to our TV to cover the time. Don't forget the commentators are going on saying "It's going to be a draw.........Saints have 10 seconds to get the ball into their fifty".

It didn't for me.

No-one can tell me there wasn't suspense with 20 seconds to go when one kick would've done it. We only knew with 10 sec to go. So what. We had more than our fair share of suspense until then. Enough to last a lifetime.

All major team sports have countdown clocks, why shouldn't AFL.

Always thought the countdown clock was a case of technology for technology's sake. The call and the game itself are more suspenseful when the siren is perceived as the 'enemy' rather than the clock.

Generally speaking, the clock is welcomed by those who have an innate need for control.

If technology was where it should be, we should each be able to use our remote control to choose whether we want to see a count-up or count-down clock. Give the viewer the choice.

All major team sports have extra time for GFs too. Should we?
