AFL superstar. Has been in the top 5 midfielders in the comp for many years before his suspension. He is a super athlete, a running machine with sick skills both side of his body. He could easily play into his mid 30's.

Hope we get him because he would be head and shoulders better than any other midfielder we have.

As to Cuz playing at the Saints, I have no problem with that. Most Eagles supporters want him to play again, some dream of the fairy tale finish with him wearing the blue and gold but it isn't going to happen.

If he ends up at Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood or Fremantle that would be a very bitter pill to swallow.....VERY bitter.

Anywhere else is ok. I'd prefer say Brisbane, Norths or the Saints. As long as he doesn't end our season come finals good luck to him.

After Race 10 it was time to adjourn to a local watering hole. As I walking along, Ricky Nixon came up beside me.

Of course I asked him about Cousins. He gave me the following.

"It's a done deal. The meeting with the AFL is the week after next and as long as he gets the all clear (which I fully expect him to get) he'll be at the Saints in 09".

He also gave me some news on Nathan Carroll which I backed up with another source, but I'll put that in the Carroll thread.

I gave Ricky a pat on the shoulder and thanked him for the info and he responded with a returned pat on the shoulder. What a top bloke.

This is not a shadow of a lie my brothers. I'm a bit of a regular here and wouldn't pull the wool over your eyes. I'm very excited by this news.

I was at the plate, and would you know it, my highlight was Lucky secret as well! I left before race 10, having picked the winner but didn tlay the bet because i had to get somewhere, and the damn horse won (dead heat anyways).. same horse i back last yr race 10; princess somethingorother...

I guess that depends on whether Vlad and the boys have a Bug up their collective a***s regarding Ben and the "disrepute" charge. I guess they have to assess whether 12 months is an appropriate penalty 'cause if BC comes back and does re-offend it won't just be the club that picks him up that feels the heat it will be the AFL as well

I think the AFL is past the stage of being in denial, and trying to make people like Dale Lewis look foolish for just saying how it was/is.

There are more than one player in the AFL with issues, and given the efforts of some of the players this year you'd think they could come to terms with Cousins.

There are other issues (1) he has not actually tested positive under AFL testing (2) if they believe he is on the road to recovery then they should acknowledge that playing will help the guy (3) he has the support of the players association (4) the AFL know he will bring people to the games.

It's not as if people will be turned off the game and switch to rugby league!

I am tending to believe that it will happen.
I think it all adds up that if he is allowed back he will come to StKilda.
I also think that the AFL are likely to approve it. I dont think a bug up their a*** is a good enough reason to knock him back, if Cousins can demonstrate that he has addressed the problem the right way. They need to be seen to be dealing with it fairly - and in a manner comparable to other players who get themselves into trouble.
As far as disrepute goes they may be better off having a club looking after him, than cutting him loose. ( Can anyone say that Gary Ablett , although retired , did not bring the game into disrepute ).
