What's interesting is the amount of people that have died and probably wouldn't have had they not been exposed to this virus.

I completely disagree with & would happily debate anyone who thinks masks aren't useful & beneficial in preventing negative outcomes of this worldwide pandemic.

What a sad,

My favourite anti-masks arguments have been "I can't breathe!" followed by "They don't stop COVID anyway" despite COVID being larger than air

That person has serious problems with anything to do with covid , it's proved that masks help

This is just unsustainable the lockdowns are doing infinitely more damage than the virus ever could, all my local resturants are on haitus till at least July 31st.

Like at this point they will be nothing to open up to.
If flights were banned from India at the height of their pandemic this would not have happened

Gladdy gloating about how well NSW is doing in the number of tests and blaming that for the growing cases… think Trumpy tried that yeah?
STOP THE TESTING!!! Lol

And the other strategy is .......just imagine how many thousand we'd have if we hadn't handled it so well.

Mmmmmmm

No offence to you, but this myth needs to be busted IMO, there are already 28 people in ICU in NSW and 15 people under 35 in hospital. If we allowed uncontrolled spread I think we would be in trouble.

She is NQR
The thing that gets me is we have a premier in Vic that cops the dictator tag, yet he and his government attend the pressers and stay until the media have asked all the questions they want to ask. Up there, they walk out on the presser whenever they have had enough or feel the media are asking too many questions. I know what is closer to the actions of a dictatorship.

It's gold standard egg on her face

What is the myth?

That Australia voluntary entered a 3 week lockdown that started in March 2020 for a disease that was thought to have the following rates:

30% Hospitalisation
6% ICU
3% Mortality.

On the basis that we didn’t have the ICU beds to cope with virus, which was fair enough at the time. NSW now has a 1000+ ICU spots for the 28 cases you refer to. Looks like we have it covered so disaster avoided. Same with all states it seems.

More sobering is that based on current data relating to "Delta" has the rates at:
0.45% Hospitalisation
0.05% ICU
0.02% Mortality

The myth? Those who believe that the state CHO’s will relinquish once we reach 80% vaccination rate (a myth in itself given no country has passed that) and suddenly allow hundreds of cases a day and deaths. Even with a high percentage of the population vaccination today’s numbers will roll out in a vaccinated world.

The soomer we learn to live the virus the better.

800 deaths vs 50 odd. Poor old Gladys plays second fiddle to Dan.
FEDERAL AGED CARE CHAMP , now have a look at the disability homes in Sydney that are in lockdown and no one with the vaccine.
Also it's not a state v state thing , we all need to help each other . My beef with her is she didn't do a snap lockdown in Dec and once again she has failed this time , it's running rampart in Sydney. But neither allowed flights in from India at the height of their outbreak . It should have all been about protecting the Big Island

Political parties aren’t footy teams

Gladys is rubbish. But this idea Dan is some super leader is laughable

None too sure from where you extract your stats but they don't appear correct. There have been 179M concluded cases worldwide resulting in 4M deaths at a rate of 2.2%. NOT 0.2%. Of the 13M cases yet to conclude 0.6% are serious or critical.
The problem with this virus is it's rampant spread overloading health care if we don't suppress. Treatments are now available as successful treatment. Vaccinations will change the picture. Whilst it will likely be here long term it is very sensible still to suppress until treatments disseminate and herd immunity occurs via vaccination. IE buy time to prevent rampant spread by the 'let it rip' philosophy. Surely we can hold another 6 months??

The stats are from the WHO.

Are you suggesting states remain in lockdown for the next 6 months??

I think the long term goal should be to get COVID down to a level of the common cold or flu. Boosters into eventual optional yearly shots ala the flu shot. With school kids getting the main dose early on like a lot of other vaccinations they get

I think lockdowns should only be used as a last resort. Vaccinate the population and until the population is vaccinated anyone coming into the country that is not vaccinated should be put into a dedicated quarantine facility. At one stage Australia had months of 0 community transmission so the only way to get the virus here was by importing it with celebrities and anyone who wanted to come in oversea arrivals. Every case here since would be able to be traced back to some form of HQ breach.

Until those happen, lockdowns will be required to stop the spread throughout the country. We were having these conversations last year in regards to Victoria. It's a shame that because we (the collective we, Australians) didn't get enough vaccines, enough different type of vaccines or proper dedicated facilities that we 1. are having lockdowns again and 2. having the same conversations when vaccines where hypothetical and still getting worked on that we were having 12 months ago.

It feels like Australia has been stuck in time for a year. And it's awful for everyone

And… QMo takes a leaf out of the Donald Trump playbook by offering the military to control the virus-spreading anarchist sub-humans of south western/western Sydney.
Well maybe Scotty, if you’d shown some f***** leadership at the very start of this shitfight and utilised those that are enlisted to defend the people from any threat, to establish an adequate and thorough national quarantine system, we would all be better off.
But never mind, we, all us gullible Australians, will re-elect you next time on the strength of your economic management while at the same time endlessly whine about the impacts of socialism induced lockdowns.

This from yesterday’s briefing as reported by the ABC;

Despite the deteriorating situation, Dr Chant said a harder lockdown was futile because most infections were not in "discretionary premises" such as hairdressing salons, but places which "put food on the table for people in Sydney".

So places that are locked down are not getting cases so it’s futile to expand it?

Now regardless of where you stand on lockdowns and the ramifications long term on the community, surely it only takes half a brain to recognise that a statement like this, from NSW’s most senior Medical Officer is diabolically stupid.

Please take care in NSW 163 cases and 90 were out in the public. She has to go real hard now , but she's not at the presser !
Mind boggling that with such dire numbers a leader would go missing. Tide has turned from the media and someone can’t handle not getting the little cream puff questions that she she can lob away easily. Instead they send Hazzard in to play the victim card. Cant stand there and gloat for months on end despite knowing you just got lucky then not expect it to come back and bite you when the luck runs out. It’s ok though. It’s not a lack of tough restrictions that’s the problem, it’s those pesky immigrant families in the south-west that just won’t stop mingling with each other that is responsible for all of this according to Hazzard.

And that was the same in Melbourne .
