Problem is, doing the same thing got us to 0 each time. Not a bad ****ing result I'd say. Unfortunately, some ****wit decided to do her own thing and reintroduce the virus to every ****ing part of the country. Add to that partisionship from the opposition and a media that has unrelentingly published misinformation and you end up with selfish ********s who think their rights override their responsibilities.
As I've said before, our government has ****ed up at times, while doing what they felt was needed at the time. What hasn't helped is scumbag oppositions spreading misinformation about people having to put off mammograms and inciting riots. If we were to have followed the oppositions vision for Victoria, we literally would have had thousands dead, been isolated from the rest of the country and violence because the government had left it's people out to die.

The figures above are percentage for total population.
The figures I cited are vaxx rates for adults 18+ in the Republic of Ireland now 90% fully vaccinated.
The closest Oz comparable figures are for people 16+ are 54.3%.
The initial point in citing Ireland is that despite having a much higher fully vaxxed adult popln it is still having problems and is still only now relaxing final restrictions. On Thursday, the Republic reported 1,271 new cases and 40 deaths in the past week. This from a population of around 5 million
Key Points are
1 Australia's vaxx rollout has lagged other advanced economies (eg OECD). This is in part due to the needs of other parts of the world being more urgent than ours, but also because Oz failed to secure sufficient quantities.
2 We also have been less than brilliant in marketing and distribution. The States esp NSW and Vic initially failed to target vulnerable poplns (eg low income, homes where other languages are spoken). The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has done an interesting analysis of who is and isn't double vaxxed.
3 Not enough centres in Sydney and Melbourne. Erratic supply to GPs. (As an aside I could book myself in for shots at a Centre but not the 95 year old I care for who is deaf and has dementia. Instead she had to wait on her GP - a 10 day delay)
4 The Feds took responsibility for roll out to Indigenous Australians and the Aged Care system. Vaxx rates are lagging for Indigenous people. CV19 unhappily is still getting into resi care via unvaxxed staff.
5 The Feds and States have been positively indolent about setting and enforcing law against those who spread anti vaxx info and those that break health restrictions. (prior to CV19, Melbourne in a couple of the 'Tofu hippy suburbs' we had small outbreaks of rubella FFS)
6 My personal opinion is that every recent demonstrator should receive a gaol term for endangering others and not just token fines. Ditto those attending religious services, engagement parties, Grand Final pi55 ups and the like. I also believe vaccination should be compulsory for every adult Australian or at the very least no proof of Vaxx = no work or govt benefit (inc tax deductions). Draconian - too right, but needed when so many fail to respect others.
7 There is nothing magical about being fully vaxxed. The virus can still be contracted, though the impacts are apparently less severe. It can also be transmitted. Hopefully sense will prevail and we continue to socially distance and use masks in public. Other countries inc Britain are considering booster shots. We probably will down the same track.
8 Our 70% and 80% (16+) targets for staged reopening strike me as low but are better than those adopted by others. IIRC herd immunity rates for rubella are around 95%. The Delta variant has proved highly contagious and who knows with the next variants.
