It's the blame game, and I agree with ulterior motives...

It's a virus, they out number every other living thing on the planet combined by 10/1... trying to blame a country for a virus is just rubbish. And you can bet your life that ScoMo knows it!

People always want someone to blame for natural disasters... they feel better if they can point the finge

Human habits are what created this virus. Gain of function research into a bat virus OR filthy habits of eating wild animals that shouldn't be on the menu IE a pangolin something akin to an anteater it appears. Either way it happened in China and has decimated the world. Ok perhaps it wasn't intentional then say sorry and we all move on. But Xi Jingping instead has decided to give the world the finger and simultaneously attack Australia because we wanted to investigate the origin of the virus so it doesn't happen again. At this juncture I'd like to kick his testicles up into his throat and rip his throat out. What a piece of sh*t.

You can blame Wuhan China !

Why should China apologise? Do you apologise for being you? Do you apologise for living your life, eating what you eat, doing what you do?

All this carry on about where this particular virus evolved is nothing but political rhetoric (most likely for another purpose altogether), and its been taken up by the populace...

The western world chose this life style... they chose the freedom to live and work overseas; they chose to be tourists and visit far flung places; they chose to attract international students; they chose immigration [in 2019 7.5 million of Australia's residents had been born overseas (ABS)]; and million other little every day things. And you can bet your bottom dollar they knew the risks of a Pandemic... but the financial benefits were worth it!

If Australia and the rest of the world weren't crisscrossing the world by air every 5 mins, the contagion factor wouldn't be a problem. The Western world created the global economy and environment, they were aware of the risk and thought it was worth it financially. Australians, just like everyone else, go overseas for work and travel. If we all (the whole world) just stayed home, this would never have happened. But no, we want to spend all this money we've made...

The western world created an environment for a virus like this to flourish, no matter where it originated. I haven't heard us apologising to all those Africans we've infected, or to anyone else for that matter...

Wet markets like Wuhan often keep live exotic animals on site then slaughter them for use. Its unhygienic and a recipe for spread of disease. A Pangolin is a bloody anteater for goodness sake !! So YES I will indeed look down my nose at anyone with such filthy habits. If it came from either of the two avenues I suggest it is entirely related to poor Chinese habits and not the millions exposed because freedom of travel. I didn't cause it because I like an annual overseas trip to Phuket. The fact we all move around didn't cause the virus. Rather the fact they held live exotic animals in close proximity with other live animals and foods for sale and then slaughter them for sale is what caused it. The propensity for spread of disease is well known and that's why the Chinese are trying to undermine the practice a little belatedly for the millions that died. And yes the scumbag head of China is responsible and should apologise. He could and should outlaw the practice but instead it started again a short while again after the outbreak.......the piece of sh*t

To put it in perspective.

California had ~16,000 cases today with a population of 40 million, and they are somewhat stable. NSW had ~11,000 cases with a population of 8 million, and we're the steepest the exponential curve has ever been.
Also California had 36 deaths versus 3 in NSW. California’s vaccination rate is 79% verses 93% in NSW.

So vaccination works. Good to keep things in perspective.

“Even accounting for 40-50 percent less severity and hospital admissions, if there are three times more cases, that will result in more hospitalisations and deaths than what we saw with Delta.“

“The other danger is if the public holds onto this “milder” narrative, there is a risk that some people may become complacent about regular lateral flow testing, mask-wearing and ventilating indoor spaces. It may even lead to fewer people taking up the booster vaccines. This will then result in further cases and eventually an increase in hospitalisations and deaths.”

I commend the more than a dozen videos by Dr John Campbell analysing various data of Omnicrom. The death numbers and hospitalisations simply do not occur.

I’ve watched a number of them. No thanx

In November 2021, Campbell said in a video that ivermectin might have been responsible for a sudden decline in COVID-19 cases in Japan. However, the drug had never been officially authorised for such use in the country—its use was merely promoted by the chair of a non-governmental medical association in Tokyo, and it has no established benefit as a COVID-19 treatment.[3] Meaghan Kall, the Lead Epidemiologist at the UK Health Security Agency, said that Campbell was confusing causation and correlation, and that even so there was no evidence of ivermectin use in Japan; rather, the story was based on "anecdata on social media driving wildly damaging misinformation".[3]

In November 2021, Campbell quoted from a non-peer-reviewed journal abstract by Steven Gundrysaying that mRNA vaccines might cause heart problems. Campbell said he was not sure about the claim or its quality, but did not mention the expression of concern that had been published for the abstract, saying instead that it could be "incredibly significant". The video was viewed over 2 million times within a few weeks and was used by anti-vaccination activists as support for the misinformation that COVID-19 vaccination will cause a wave of heart attacks. According to a FactCheck review, Campbell had in his video drawn attention to the poor quality of the research on which these claims were based, pointing to typos in the abstract, poor methodology, and a lack of clear data.[4]

Up with my long time group in the home of our coach . Scary day as we have a Mother and son positive , the rest of our group have all had negative rapid tests . While waiting for a result i don't think i've ever been that nervous . The positive mum had a seizure and was never tested here or at Albury , absolutely pathetic

Wet markets exist over a considerable portion of the world, not just China. Pop over to India, interior Africa, or numerous other places around the world and go off the beaten track, bound to find something that meets your needs. Did you pop into they Thai wet markets while you were there? No, well worth a look! Maybe you can spend some of your well earned dough there next time you go! Not a hell of a lot in the way of refrigeration, or anything much to keep the flies out, but I'm sure you'll be right... By the way, I love the phrasing 'outlaw the practice', that just sounds marvellous, doesn't it!

You keep calling the animals exotic... you know that means 'from a distant foreign country'? Umm, China? They are just animals. 'Exotic' is media hyperbole. It sounds better on TV and social media. By the way, are you suggesting these people should starve rather than eat ant eaters? And how easy is it in a first world country to get meat from 'suitable' animals. Of course you mostly need to turn a blind eye to how they were raised and slaughtered, and ignore the fact they are given hormones to make them larger (and more financially viable), but once that is done, it's great to have steak and chicken on the table! Make no mistake, if foxes, ant eaters and koala bears were financially viable, we'd be eating and exporting them.**

I can't stop you thinking what you want and have no intention of trying to do so... but I will continue to voice my opposing views. The Western World is doing everything it can to discredit China for political reasons, and some of them are valid. But in my opinion, blaming them for Covid is not. It was just luck of the draw... could have happened in any number of countries.

Data doesn' t lie. Data of sufficient sample size usually creates high confidence of same result. And so it does here. The one variable that does vary in our case is that our vaccination percentage will be significantly higher than those other jurisdictions. That will lessen the dangers. Deaths will arise but will be in very low numbers. That is what the data and evidence shows. You can think what you like about the dangers of course but I'll be guided by the evidence.

agree with everything you're saying ... the wealthy west has for centuries taken all it can from poorer countries ... resources (covid vaccines, anyone?), exploited cheap labour, waged war on those who stand in their way ... then (as exemplified by certain posters) condemned them for all manner of practices they find "uncivilised" or "barbaric" ... "they're different to me, i don't like or trust them"
it's hard for any country to maintain civilised standards when the majority of its people have been abandoned to the utter hopelessness of entrenched poverty, no education and corrupt government
(and don't look too closely at a lot of western nations now)

If it arose in CHINA as a result of a wet market then it is CHINA that are responsible. If instead it happened in another country with a wet market then THEY are responsible and the world needs to wake up that viruses are passed in this way which coincidentally is likely the non political purpose of the original investigation to demonstrate the risk of wet markets so that they can be eradicated. It doesn't exonerate CHINA simply because it might have occured elsewhere if the habit is a poor one causing disease. Understand? Nothing political in that I'm sorry.

I'm not going to blame India which has wet markets too because it didn't originate there. When it does I will. Hopefully we learn lessons and the practice is stopped.

Coincidentally I also despise CHINA for it's political stand on most things, bullying mindset, autocratic disengagement with the world, human rights abuses, aggressive military engagement but that is separate from culpability for spread of the virus. Had they not been so protectionist and instead cared about human lile this thing could have been stopped early but wasn't as they were too busy engaging in propaganda

If you are intent on quoting me then do so. Don't introduce new parameters and say they are mine.

If world poverty is a problem and it is then that remains a problem that needs addressing for sure. No one disputes that. Neither of us are going to solve all the world's issues in one conversation. But we are discussing origins of a virus from a wet market and whether eradication of the practice is sensible. It is. China has the biggest surplus of any country in the world. Rather than buying up far flung ports perhaps it should devote resources domestically for the people???..... Who then may abandon by choice wet markets.

yes, but that's not going to happen any time soon ... yet you still want to condemn those people who have no choice but to live the way they do, and eat to survive the way they do ... not to mention trying to overthrow something that's culturally inherent
i can see the health/hygiene reasons in banning wet markets but it's easier said (here on a football forum) than done

Governments make law. CHINA the country could quite simply ban the practice. Then it would cease because they dare not disobey else sacrifice with their lives. So it is CHINA the country that is responsible.

your interpretation comes from your fixation that Campbell is some guru. He’s not full stop. He’s one of those YouTubers that helped push the narrative that ivermectin was some cure. It wasn’t. Just another bozo on YouTube. I get your part of the let it rip crew and will grab anything to validate your theory. WHO doesn’t agree and I’ll take their word over a YouTuber making a buck every day of the week

And this is the real reason your jumping up and down about data…the economy. The let it rip crew want it gone to move on making a buck never thinking who’s going to fall by the wayside.

It’s not going away in a hurry with or without data. And lastly I used medical data everyday in my job as an infection control rep so don’t try n sound all up to date because you googled a few things. Pfft data 😂

The proof will be in the results. And those results will be forthcoming very soon because this isn't being stopped. I'm not part of the 'let it rip' brigade as you suggest. Quite the contrary for the first 18 mths to 2 years or more I stood shoulder with only a few advocating the opposite. Just ask Noel. That approach was sensible to suppress and bought us time to create vaccines and treatments now in place . Now it's not. You simply can't suppress something as transmissible as Omnicrom nor do you need to because it's not killing people other than those likely to die with a cold

There is a unique opportunity right now to ride the wave of a variant no more severe than a cold and bring about possible end to the pandemic as it outcompetes all variants. If you indeed have access to the science you would realise that. You don't which makes me doubt from where you derive your conclusions because it's not science notwithstanding your employment. Have you looked at the SA data on cases, deaths and hospitalisations? The UK? The USA?......or the numerous other jurisdictions all pointing to the same outcome???......and on sample sizes that make confidence intervals indisputable for the outcome with the only variable our higher rate of vaccination

I have a very high threshold for acceptance of opinion. I will accept evidence based data only and Campbell simply repeatedly cites data (with references) over and over again. So excuse me if I revert to my statistical analyst training and ignore subjective opinion..... yours.

I know what I know and when I do I'm disinclined to defer to BS. Not in my nature.

Addendum:

There are currently 99435 active cases in Australia and of those 99306 are classified mild cases and not serious

OMG OMG let's all run and hide in fear......NOT

If the overseas record is to be believed there are numerous people who are asymptomatic never suspecting they have the virus. Probably tens of thousands

That's a shame to stop. It may have been educational

When a mild variant becomes extremely transmissible the other variants compete for the same hosts and is ultimately eradicated by that competition via herd immunity. So delta which can be deadly ceases to exist. That is an opportunity whether or not you see the ramifications........

No shit Sherlock. You’ve condensed pretty much what has been posted non stop on the internet to suit a certain narrative when there’s shit loads that dispell your narrative. It still causes havoc with people becoming sick whether in or out of hospital. It’s not a cold, it’s not the flu and any pea brain should know this. It will be with us throughout 2022. It will constantly cause problems in staffing or in manning infrastructure. Football sides will be effected. Schools will be effected. Hospital staffing will be effected. And as so many become complacent and think it’s just a cold they’ll stop getting their booster and then let’s see if it’s just a cold. I get your frustrated & you want 2019 normal. So do I. It’s not coming back in a rush. It’s not a war where someone surrenders and it’s all over it’s going to take time. Its a bloody virus. If you had of said it may mutate again and the next variant may pose an even smaller risk I’d agree with you. But your pretty much talking exactly like a lot of people did at the start. “It’s just a flu” & “it’ll be normal come jan 1 2021”. Lastly and this will be my final post because this is a waists of time as we won’t agree. Cutting and pasting is not educational it’s just plain plagiarism to suit your narrative that “it’s just a cold”, just a ****ing cold. Go tell that to the people in hospital right now. Just a cold ****me

oh and just liked a boomer you’ll reply thinking the last word is a win. I can hear it now “I won the internet”
