I wonder how many of the vocal expat west Aussies are the ones that left before covid existed, because it was saaah boring and it was way cooler to go try and live the life in Melbourne or Sydney? They got used to Perth always being there when it suited them to come back and visit. I’m sure they could come back and live if they wanted to??

I'm one of those i left Perth in 2006, my work life is in Melbourne, and i try to get back to Perth once a year to see my parents, have no idea when that will happen now, despite being triple vaxxed.

I’ve got a few mates exactly the same. Left Perth cause they were sick of it and come back when they can. Still love to stick the boot in about how shit Perth and WA is and how awesome Melbourne is. Maybe not so awesome now. Just gives me a bit of the “look who’s come crawling back” feel about it. Obviously that’s not everyone that’s left.

See look at the fun we have been missing out on by not being in the eastern states.

I (so far) dodged a bullet heading to Wild Hop twice in the few days after Sunday. Freaky.

As PID said, you couldn't use SafeWA down there unless you had Telstra. I really hope people were taking the time to manually record their attendance on the forms provided. I did, both times.

Code Yellows get called multiple times a day, usually for some pretty minor shit. The reason for their use is basically so everyone knows something isn't 100%.

Same shit happens daily in other enterprises, it's just the staff don't generally know it.

It's creeping up day by day

Western Australia has recorded seven new local COVID cases

Three of the seven cases are known contacts of previously reported cases.

As predicted - difficult to see how we come out with with COVID zero again short of another lockdown.

February 5 back on?

I am aware of that, was just challenging that poster's assertion that the media don't bother reporting on issues in the health system.

NorthbridgeHit studio Karaoke Box
64 Francis Street

Yes, this is a guaranteed spreading event - the rooms there are small and poorly ventilated and you're definitely not drinking and singing karaoke for 7 hours with a mask on or keeping your distance.

This is somewhat critical context when looking at the delay in opening the border and whether people should put off their boosters.

Omicron is out in the community and it's going to keep spreading.

I suspect we'll end up opening the borders 2-4 weeks after Feb 5th.

"Damn you for not opening the border, I'm not getting my booster now" has to be the most arse backward display of logic I've seen in a while.

The internet is an amazing place.
Got boosted today, and had a lady in the pharmacy who was hesitant of getting hers.

The onsite nurse was busy trying to explain the efficacy, and the lady was severely worried it wasn't 100% effective.

I think we're in a situation now where too much information is hampering people's ability to make a decision.

Paralysis by analysis.

88 deaths due to covid is the tally today, coincidentally the same as the number of Australians who died in the Bali bombing. The Bali bombing was a traumatic time for most Australians and was followed by weeks of mourning. Covid is producing a Bali bombing every 1-2 days but some would have us believe it should just be considered business as usual, nothing to worry about and pretty mild really. A large dose of perspective is badly needed among some of us.

It's not so much too much information but information constantly changing. Right now, the booster won't stop you from getting Covid but it'll do a pretty smashing job of keeping you out of hospital or dying. That's all they need to say. That and don't hang out with people indoors, especially your grandma, for a while.

McGowan giving a speech now, hopefully a snap lockdown to try and stop this outbreak.

I think they know that the cat is out of the bag but they'd rather Covid just start to spread slowly and organically through the community as opposed to just letting in tens of thousands of people (some of whom will inevitably have it) as hospitals and health services are already trying to deal with some cases.

Just trying to say everyone that would fly in on the 5th of feb would somehow have had Covid when they come in. The bloke is just a flat out liar and scaremonger

He didn’t say that. He said opening the borders would result in thousands of cases coming in. Which, given that we’ve regularly got numerous cases of infected travelers coming in now, when the borders are shut, is the reality.

Had a bit of this as well, mates that left over a decade ago to move east an OS because of how shit Perth is, and now endlessly bagging "mcclown" because they can't come "home" - I get it, it sucks, but it's not your home anymore and it would seem most of us on this side of the fence don't want to risk our grandparents just so you can come back and hang shit on our hospitality scene again.

I realise that absolutely doesn't apply to everyone trying to get back in, but I'd still prefer to protect my elderly parents
