COVID chaos! WA border threatens entire AFL fixture

You do realise that SA, QLD, NT and Tas are the ones sucking your taxes away?

Vic is the only state to have NEVER been on the receiving end of the Feds distribution of taxes...unlike WA, which for most of it's history has been a charity case.

Please do secede...but first, pay us back all the money you owe us.

Not nice #Telsor, this is like telling them there is no Father Christmas.

Can we please just Secede already. Would happily keep South Australia, Queensland and the NT but if we must lose them to get rid of Victoria and NSW sucking taxes out of our state it would all be worth it.

Then footy is an international sport as well. We'll keep the West Aussie divisions of the military including the SAS as well thanks.
Please do.

This thread is silly.

The arrogant AFL are going to do the fixture irrespective of the fact that some states may have community transmission of COVID going forward.

The arrogant WA Premier is going to maintain border restrictions regardless of what the AFL is doing.

At some point the two will clash and there will be tears. For all the people bleating about WA's 'hard border', it's not new. It's not a curve ball in waiting. The AFL should have a contingency in place such that if McGowan goes full McGowan again that WC and Freo are 're-hubbed' to another state (presumably Qld because... Qld loves footy? Don't know, WC's preferred home ground is Adelaide Oval...). We choose to be based in WA, we are effectively at the whim of our benevolent dictator.

Also worth noting that if Victoria goes into Winter lockdown again it's not really up to WA to accommodate that nor is it the fault of McGowan or your average Sandgroper.

Can we steer this back to discussion about the AFL fixture and the article in question. We do have a coronavirus hot topic sub forum for that subject.
Serious question. If Push comes to shove, Would oth WA teams be forced in to Hubs in South Australia, Southern Queensland or Canberra?

Yes, I could see that happening but both WA teams should pick SA. The airlines & SA government should get on board and allow WA fans see their club in SA on a cheaper rate.

Worst case scenario

fu** me, more of this sh*t. You'd think something would have been sorted out by now that would exempt teams flying to and from the state regardless of borders, similar to how South Australia did it last season. Also makes absolutely no sense scrapping the fixture just because of two teams.
Speak to your premier!!!! He gets a kick out of being the tough guy and enjoys a boost in popularity every time he mentions the word "quarantine" The solution is to hub the WA teams in SA, VIC, NSW or QLD and forget about any games in WA

More like plain ordinary ignorance ..... a dud schooling even. Bit like the adoration of Cook on the east coast, latecomer Cooky, Telsor reads what he wants to read ignoring the tariffs pumped into Vic to prop up manufacturing, hell its a powerhouse of manufacturing that Victoria.

Geelong makes the most sense. Freo in Anglesea and eagles in Torquay.

Hartog & Dampier >> Vlaming >>>>>> Cook.

Oh by the way, season will start as normal. Never believe what you read in the headlines.

Speaking of, think Cooky might have been over East playing footy before he went to the Wild West....

Dirk the Dutchman* was in WA in 1614 - Dirck Hartog | Dutch merchant captain and explorer | Britannica

Cooky was not even a tilt in Dads kilt around then. Popped ot 100+ years later the good Cap'n.

Its not as if Dirk was first recorded arrival by boat from the Olde World - Janszoon maps northern Australian coast | National Museum of Australia

* Dirk hit it with his head, Cooky?

Who is no-one? You and your little group of mates?

Maybe you should tell this to Kerry Stokes, he's obviously wasting his money over there.

.

The rise in weekday readers has seen The West hit a major milestone — recording the highest “market reach” of any major masthead in the country with, on average, one-in-five people in this State reading a copy of the newspaper every day.

The figures are even better for cross-platform market reach.

A massive 84 per cent of people in WA read The West Australian newspaper, its website, PerthNow or The Sunday Times in an average month.

The numbers again make West Australian Newspapers the nation’s leader.
Lol. The West has gone from a respected newspaper to sensationalist garbage. Yep the figures are up. You can make rubbery figures say whatever you like. Now if it wasn't a ONE newspaper market monopoly, perhaps the paper/ circulation figures might be taken more seriously. The only other paper in town The Sunday Times is also owned by Kerry Stokes 7 West Media as are all of the community newspapers. There is only one voice in the entire state apart from a couple of tiny independents like The Fremantle Herald which battles away and comes out once a week.

Please don't put The West on a pedestal because it certainly doesn't belong there. When you're the only player in town it's pretty easy to increase your figures, there's no other choice !

I think we'll work something out (by we I mean McGowan and the AFL) and exempt the travelling teams but if not we'll probably hub in SA.

Anyway I think come bouncedown in Richmond vs Carlton I think it will no longer be an issue.

All newspapers the world over are battling for circulation.

Does WA have TV stations independent of the locally owned newspaper (7 days) ?

Haha, who put it on a pedestal?

The original comment quite a while back in the thread was that no one took it seriously or read it, all I did was point out that a huge slab of the state do in fact read it. The fact it is the only paper in town is irrelevant to the discussion

Storm in a teacup.

Exemptions will be sorted out, with a lot of behind the scenes work. All will be ok.

By the by, why blame WA, the actual cause of the problem is in Vic. Accept some of the blame at least, don’t blame others who tell you to “wash your hands” properly.

Onward and upward.
The news said wa is being a poo poo bum it must be true.
