I, for one, applaud the gov't. Mind you... They're saying they "advise" it... They don't sound like they're enforcing it at this point.

Yes, the language is interesting - PM’s quoted as “advising” but the Guardian is using the wording of banned. Semantics by Scotty from Marketing displaying his lack of leadership and using weasel words (yet again:rolleyes:).

He makes my skin crawl.
Why does it come into affect on Monday? Why not right now?

"Figures from Department of Home Affairs show 31,196 Chinese students have now arrived in Australia since mid-February. The students have been arriving at a rate of about 1000 a day, according to The Sydney Morning Herald."
But they have not come direct from China. They have spent the minimum 14 days in a country that the Government has, or had at that time, declared safe to receive people from.
Just another beat up story.

Has there been word that they will suspend the season?
I would expect them, and the broadcasters, to be busting a gut to still play.

Not yet but I suspect they will suspend the season as soon as a player or football dept support staff test positive. The AFL will follow what has happened in Europe with soccer: 1. Play in empty stadiums 2. Suspend when a club (any club with the 1st for the AFL) has a confirmed case.

I hope you are right. I would be more than happy for the teams to play to empty stadiums (as opposed to not playing at all), but as other posters have stated, depleted revenue for clubs may be a deciding factor.

Sorry but where does it say that they stayed in the proxy country for 14 days?

All this is delaying the inevitable.

The AFL will try to give people hope that the season will start in late April, but there will be no season this year in my opinion.
Why can’t they play with no spectators?

Regardless the players and personnel still would be going to and fro like in shopping centres, walking the streets et.

So why can’t they also play football with TV being the medium for fans?

All you need is one player or staff member to get affected, and then it's goodnight season 2020.

That’s possible.

But depends on all the others and other teams.

Our luck, be just us.

Will be as it will be.

If every team had an infected played or official then surely there would be no need to close down the competition.
