Managed 46:03 for the 10km at Run Melbourne this morning. Different course to what I remember and quite a bit more undulating. Didn’t get the 45:00 I was hoping for but still a 1:46 PB. I gave everything I had and couldn’t have done any better.

On to training for the Melbourne marathon now. Going to be a very different experience.

Big PB on a pretty crappy course - bit of undulation and heaps of turns.

It’s a shame athletics doesn’t get more press in Oz. We had an Aussie World champ successfully defend her title and it barely made the news.

Sydney McLaughlin ran one of the greatest ever runs at any distance and no news on that.

And it was yet another major womens’ 400m race that the 1996 Perec and Freeman would have destroyed…

Thanks Swipey!

Watched the race by Sydney on the train home. Insane margin!

The 10km course had two uphills leading to the finish and then the archway was around a corner so you couldn’t see it until you were about 50m away. The hero sprint on seeing the line was very brief!

Her time would have placed her 7th in the flat final. Quite extraordinary.

Prognosis on Bruzzy's apparently subluxed shoulder?
For the dummies like me:

A shoulder subluxation refers to a partial dislocation of the shoulder joint. This occurs when the ball of the upper arm bone, called the humerus, partly comes out of the glenoid socket in the shoulder. In a complete dislocation, the humerus is knocked totally out of the socket

I need a prognosis, not a definition. TRS has sufficient information based on Bruz looking pretty sore in the celebrations. But not sore enough to not celebrate. My guess is that if a bit of jumping around and light contact is making him wince, there might be a bit of ouchy in there.

I find a picture helps

Prognosis on Bruzzy's apparently subluxed shoulder?

Yes, ouchiness confirmed.

I don’t have Bruzzy’s full shoulder history but given he straps it the way he does, it may actually be a chronic instability issue, in which case sometimes a subluxation isn’t that painful and they can soldier on.

He was high-fiving and hugging blokes out on the ground, and seemed to have reasonable range of movement when demonstrating what he could do to our medical staff. I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed a week to let it settle, then test it out and come straight back in. Might be a candidate for off-season surgery though if it is unstable.
