It appears that there is a trend now to try and name Coronavirus variants after monsters to popularise their identities

Kraken, basilisk and gryphon: The push to name Omicron variants after monsters

Omicron’s more than 650 sub-lineages have acquired new names from mythical creatures but WHO is so far resisting the push to make the virus names catchy.

I like the idea but not the execution. From now on, I will be pushing for variants to be named after ponies.

I await the Shetland strain which will kill us all while appearing cute and harmless.

I used normalcy as a variation of normality, which I thought was normal.

I did not mean this to be controversial.

But there it is, an unthinking decision now isolated and blinking under the unforgiving attention of a spotlight. Legitimacy questioned, normalcy is on the run.

Speaking of on the run, I cracked the 21 minute barrier for 5km today at ParkRun. 20:49, with the big 20:00 looming large now as the next mountain to climb.

Congratulations mate, amazing stuff!

I walked 5km in just under an hour the other day. That was with the dog in tow.

So far this year I’ve walked a total of 68 km. I’m aiming to walk over 1000 km for the year.
