Government has already flagged this as a likely outcome. If it’s just one or two weeks that’s fine, shift the season back. Anymore and you just play without crowds.

I personally don’t see any real issue, been travelling the last two weeks back and forth there are fewer and fewer people on planes, it’s just bizarre. Not all that different to the common flu really.

Those serving self-isolation or at risk should be made to undergo their quarantine at Punt Rd or in close interaction with RFC employees. Princes Park would be another suitable location.

If a player or staff member at a football club contracts the virus, that would mean the whole club has to go into two weeks quarantine automatically.

If that happens across multiple football clubs, the schedule of the season will be severely disrupted.

Even 1 team could cancel a Round as mean they play less games as other Teams

People think it's the Apcolypse

I find it puzzling that people in charge say that the handling of pandemics has been discussed etc etc etc, and preparations have been made and then we find out that face masks are nowhere to be found and alcohol based handwash is gone too. I've even read some articles about a lack of masks for medical people too..... isnt that a part of the planning?

I know people panic at the first mention of these things, but it might have been useful for someone to mention buying some supplies a year or two ago. I'm sure some smart people have already done that.... I feel a bit stupid for not going out shopping a few years ago to buy up some p2 or n95 masks and handwash.

To me, I feel like I'm being managed and the "people in charge" dont have enough faith in people to tell the whole story. For example, we're continually told that facemasks are useless for protecting against the virus and yet all the doctors are wearing them.

If you dont hear from me after july, it's either because the pies have lost too many games to make the finals or i'm dead.... or both

There is a thought the quarantine time will come down to 7 days.

I could see games getting postponed, but not entirely forfeited. It may be the season extends over October, or the clubs don't have any byes to fit in postponed matches.

Could they push a Season back for 2-6 Weeks so Finals be in October instead of September?

They can get a week back for the mid season byes and another week back for the pre-finals bye. There’s 2 straight off. I reckon that they could push the season back a week or two as well most likely as the MCG and Marvel will be available at the very least.

Thats normally true, but not necessarily in all cases. We know very little about immunity to this virus. It is possible that this woman made a poor immune response the first time, genetically, she may be a poor responder. Maybe the virus has some sophisticated strategies that evade the immune system? We just dont know yet...

There's no proof because the virus hasn't been completely sequenced and single anecdotes are hard to interpret. Experts say it is more likely to be false testing i.e. the test erroneously indicating that the patient is cured or the positive tests could have picked up on viral fragments still floating around in the patients’ bodies rather than an intact, living coronavirus,

You're right, we don't know for sure but 3 weeks is just not enough time elapsed for reinfection.

People seem to be aware of the bad news, judging by the supermarket shelves. The good news is that the rate of new cases has slowed in both China and Korea, and with the northern hemisphere coming into warmer months, the spread of virus may be slowed as people move outside more and no longer remain in such close quarters.

It may be slowed in the northern hemisphere by the warmer months in the northern hemisphere, but the MCG aint exactly balmy conditions during footy season. I'd expect the AFL to be prepping for some interruptions to the season. I hope we're planning to hit the start of the season hard, as the start may carry more weight than normal.

Governments want to appear to be responding.
The media are trying to outdo each other for revenue.

There have been less than 800 reported cases of infection in a nation of 327 million people.

And the world economy has been in the toilet for the last decade.
A week ago only 35 people in New York had been tested. Youre not going to get many confirmed cases if you don't test. The States have dropped the ball big time. Their infections disease control specialists wanted to design their own test kits. The ones they made didn't work. Thus they're frantically trying to catch up and produce enough test kits.

Which means the actual rate is even less.
Think about it.
If millions of people have had it but haven't reported it then the actual number of people dying is far less than 3400.

Impossible to say at this stage. The ratio generally being used is the number of people whove had it confirmed versus number of deaths. This ratio ignores the fact that some who currently have it will die. The longer it goes on, the more significant ratio will become recovered versus dead, as that rate looks only at cases that have had an oucome. It's currently sitting at a 6% death rate for confirmed cases that have run their course.

Like you said, a heap of people around the world have probably had/have it without it being confirmed which would lower the death rate, assuming the same thing isnt the case with deaths - people dying of it without it being confirmed.

Death rates will also vary significantly by region. If it spreads quickly enough in a region and is serious enough in enough cases, it looks like it will cripple a medical system that isn't very robust - like in Wuhan and by the looks of it, Italy and Iran. In those areas with a crippled medical system, the death rate will likely be significantly higher than areas whose medical systems stand up to the extra demands.

Its clearly a shit disease, but to put it into a global contect, if holiday in south east asia, you're still more likely to die from a tropical disease than you are to die from catching coronavirus on a European vacation.

Yeah, but wait till the US goes crazy -- a privatised health care system where half the population can't afford to pay for hospitals, an emergency health crisis organisation disbanded by Trump (before this began), and a president who says, "It's not that bad." :)

People moving outside is actually worse too.

I would say that will be a possibility, unless the worst situation comes, which is we have a shortened season, like a 18 or 19 round season.
The club sent me my seat allocation for Anzac Day, but l really doubt supporters will be able to attend this match. This game will definitely be a lockout. They couldn't have 90,000+ people all together!

I think it'll come down to the spread of the virus between now and then. If we see an escalation in person-2-person spread then they'll definitely look to closing stadiums to spectators. We'll just have to wait and see. I doubt they'd actually cancel games unless there were confirmed cases within clubs and obvious quarantine ramifications.
