People moving outside is actually worse too.
Worse than staying indoors with your immediate family, better than going to the shops/cinemas/airports/sporting arenas/offices/etc.

Not all that different to the common flu really.

I read this a lot. To some extent you have a point. Influenza is a much more serious infection then most in the general public think, and the reason we tend to think of the flu as mild is that we colloquially refer to any respiratory virus as "the flu" when most respiratory viruses such as rhinovirus cause much much milder infections....

However, there is good reason to think that COVID-19 is significantly more dangerous than influenza. There are two ways to measure/estimate how dangerous an infection is.

Firstly the mortality rate. Most of the reports suggest it is about 2-3% for COVID-19. Now mortality rate for season influenza varies from year to year (the mortality rate of the Spanish flu epidemic of 2018 is estimated to be similar to COVID-19), but the estimated data from the CDC point to a mortality of 0.01% (2017-2018 season; of course having a vaccine keeps this figure low). Now several people suggest that the COVID-19 mortality rate is likely to be inflated, thanks to undiagnosed cases, mild and subclinical infections, and so the real mortality rate won't be that different for flu. This argument makes little sense to me. Most viral infections have mild and subclinical infections, flu as well as COVID-19, but to accept that COVID-19 is about as lethal as flu is to suggest that the mortality rates are 300 times too high - preposterous!!! It's safe to conclude that COVID-19 is MUCH more lethal than seasonal influenza. The figures aren't even remotely close.

Second there is the infection rate. This is measured by R0. If R0 is 1, essentially for each person infected, that person infected 1 other person. If R0 is 2, it means two other people get infected etc. The R0 for COVID-19 is estimated to be 2-3. The R0 for influenza will vary with strain, but is generally around 1.5. In short, COVID-19 is more infectious that seasonal influenza.

Now, I haven't got a crystal ball, and cant tell you how many people will die from this pandemic. There are so many variables and unknowns. We currently know very little about immunity to COVID-19. Whether infection generates vigorous neutralising immune responses, whether the response is long-lived and protects from re-infection or is weak and ineffective, whether the virus has mechanisms that evade the immune system, whether there is much genetic variation in the immune response, is there a significant part of the population who are genetically lousy responders?

Now having said all that, for 85% of people who get infected by this virus, you will have an annoying respiratory infection and in a week or so you will feel better, so for those people youre "not that different to the common flu" comment is applicable. For the other 15% people however - its pretty serious; and for any oldies - life threatening

The problem with the corona virus at the moment is that yes its another form of viral flu but we don't have a vaccine for it yet.Reports i have read state it won't be till 2021 till our brilliant Aussie scientists find one it takes time and $$$$$.
A virus for those that don't know is a pathogen that enters our bodies through our mouths (being air borne),ears, and our skin (through cuts etc)
Once the pathogen is in our bodies,it attaches itself to our cells and starts replicating like mad until it takes over the body organs in this case the lungs or respiratory system........If our immune system is high we can survive it if not and your immune system is low you are in trouble.

This is why the virus has devastating effects on the elderly especially people with low immune systems and people who are sick and have other ailments like asthma, diabetes other related disease.

Therefore to protect our selves we need to eat plant based diets with herbs that combat the virus. The next level is to take very high levels of NATURAL supplements...................I have been taking this superfood called CRYPTOMONDALES WITH PPARS and Resveratrol. iTS A FORM OF CHLORELLA which is an algae like spiriluna but 100 times more powerful.I have been taking it for 13 years now....Its excellent in fighting disease and viral infections
But there are many forms of chlorella which are toxic you must only get chlorella which is cultivated in pristine waters and under strict conditions.
This product is 100 % natural its termed a Superfood not a pharmacutical at all.
i COULD GET INTO A BIG DIALOGUE BUT I WON'T.

So at this stage, the only ways we can combat this virus,is through containment, building a high level immunity through the right food sources and extremely high level vitamin and mineral supplemention like the Chlorella i speak of until a vaccine is found.

Good luck and god bless you all.

As they are quickly fining out in Europe, the empty stadium games work out ok until a trainer, coach, player, board-member from a team tests positive.

Could go through our season like a wrecking ball.

If by could you mean definitely will. Don't forget this virus gets supercharged in winter, and we're heading to winter now.

Its only a matter of weeks until a player or team official gets it and then the whole club is on a 24 day quarantine and their season is effectively over, as well as any opponents they faced before they were tested.

May as well get used to watching all AFL games played on TV with empty stadiums in 2020
Adam Treloar did say he wouldn't mind that since he gets nervous going out in front of big crowds ,and reckons he could play better being nice and relaxed without the crowd.

But teams like Gold Coast they play to empty stadiums anyway so wont matter much they are use to it.

At some stage a certain player on our list will be blamed.

It’s much more serious than that. What happens once it goes through a playing list? Do you self isolate one club? What about the next club? Do you have a supplement section process? How many players will even be eligible let alone worthy of drafting? At the rate it’s spreading I’d now be surprised if the season wasn’t postponed.

Even the virus wants to keep away from Marvel.

I've never understood the angst about Docklands. I've always felt we're less likely to win there but I'm pretty sure the reality is we have a pretty good W/L% there despite my perceptions. Other than that though I've always found it a good venue to watch footy. Particularly night games where you don't have to worry if the morons will shut the roof or not. Maybe it's because it saves me traversing the city after the drive down from Benders.

I don't mind it either. Especially now they are on top of the surface issues that used to plague the stadium. I park at Crown Casino & walk from there.
Viewing is usually excellent.

So we all have to stay in house for a Year Then?

There is a lab at QIMR that have an impressive pipeline and have already made progress. I have little doubt that there will have a vaccine to test in the near future: late 2019 early 2020. However, having a vaccine to test and having a vaccine that works are two very different things, all sorts of things can go wrong. So, its not impossible, but we would have to be very lucky for a vaccine to be available as early as 2021

No, that is over the top. From a personal point of view, if you are young and healthy just go about your normal business. By all means wash your hands assiduously, use hand sanitisers etc. Even if you get infected the chances are it will be a mild "flu"..if you do get infected, then to protect the vulnerable in the community, you should stay in the house, but only for 2 weeks.

Perceived higher injury rate and a lack of atmosphere.
