Coach Craig McRae

With this article McCrae is pumping his own tyres up again - he may very well be great at everything as he claims to be and I desperately hope he is.

But telling us all this now is pretty pointless.

He has only been coach for 5 minutes.

I dont like it.

Hubris.
You don't think you're being a little unfair? I thought he came across quite humble and self deprecating

Admits he was never a "big name" - What do you want? We want someone who is assured of their ability-and he doesn't strike me as an egoist

Leppisch on the other hand....but again if he brings results

For me, McRae, is a balanced and rounded individual who is steadfast in his beliefs of where he wants us heading , he comes across with sincere humility and minimal personal ego, he is all about valuing people and creating winning behaviours and repeating them over and over, when a man of the calibre of Leigh Matthews offers to be there for him as a sounding board should there be any challenging times ahead , and there will be, what does that tell you, me and all of us ? I know it tells me we are in great hands , let him carry out his process driven modus operandi on this exciting journey ahead of us for our club , I am looking forward to been hated again by oppo supporters .

Macca wrote this to someone in a reply. Love this.

" Elliott texted Craig McRae through the selection process saying: “you better get the job.” "

It's good but also a window into the turmoil in the locker room, Collingwood is like a duck on a pond at the moment.

He is turning on himself. And sharing his private conversations with players already is a worry too.

I understand where you are coming from.

However, i do not mind McRae being open and honest. Nothing McRae mentioned was super private.

And if there is a problem then the player can leave. No more tail wagging the dog.

Is there something about our new coach that you know, and the rest of us don’t? I’m pleased we’ve got him, I like the way he’s conducted himself to date, and I agree with others that we have a long way to go before celebrating anything. He could fail.

But you seem to be looking for fault. You don’t like the way he talked about himself - or talked himself up - in interviews and now you’ve got a problem with him referring to conversations with players.

Another way to look at this is that he’s deliberately opening himself up to the media and to questioning. The Pies top brass may have agreed on this as an early strategy. Certainly, from the perspective of fans, we are being informed in a way that we haven’t for a while.

I don’t think his honesty and transparency is a bad thing. And it may close down as season 2022 approaches.

Why - I have said it’s a worry - I haven’t called for his sacking or anything.

Hubris doesn’t sit well with me.
Seems holding any concern about McRae at this stage is akin to shooting bambi. I've enjoyed hearing his insights and am happy with the appointment. That said while it's understandable he wants to publicly sell himself and his plan initially it's also likely that he'll find more balance between engaging with fans/media and keeping things in house as his career progresses. He's also mostly challenged players he's previously worked with, so probably knows them well enough to know how they'd handle such comments.

Hubris doesn’t sit well with me either.

Earlier in the year during the members feedback thingy, Part of my feedback was how I liked many of the measures the club has taken over the journey towards egalitarianism. I like that we have no No.1 ticket holder. I like how the “Years membership” had been taken off the scarves. It peeves me off when I see things like members arguing over whether the membership list in the annual magazine should be in alphabetical order or chronological order (as if where your name is in the Collingwood periodical is some kind of pissing contest)

Unfortunately, it seems that I am in the minority with all of this, because in response to members’ feedback in the age of an EGM threat, the “Years membership” will return to the scarves.

And so when I hear the senior coach volunteer that one of his core values is “I treat the President with the same respect as I treat the property steward” that is music to my ears. And then when somebody accuses that person of hubris, I am genuinely wondering what they’re referring to?

I like that we have no No.1 ticket holder as it purveys that members are equal. I hadn't thought of years of membership in that vein though and thought they were removed as a cost cutting measure. To me years of membership is about recognising a persons contribution to the club and something that person can take pride in. Similar to how 10 year players get life membership or how corporations have 10, 20 year service awards for their employees.

Thinking about it now I can see how some may use years of service as a pissing contest, but should the actions of a few restrict the ability of others to celebrate their contribution privately?

It was 100% cost cutting. For me they froze membership prices but reduced what we received.

I loved when the Copeland trophy winner was on the seasons ticket.
