Fasten your seat-belt and enjoy the ride.
Flags are sensational but the most joyful seasons are ones just like this with a young list that has potential.

We get to watch them develop, all the highs and lows - it should serve as a reminder for some here that the journey itself is the reason and the realization of the dream the destination.

Enjoy the journey people.

Those of us that are confident of a rapid return up the ladder this year may want to read that article very closely.

I do believe the change in game plan will lift us up the ladder a bit but we are both a very young and very unseasoned list so I'm not pinning my hopes too high.

I think you’re right.

Change in game plan to increase the number of inside 50’s and move the ball faster should help us win more games and I sense there could be some improvement that comes from that with senior players such as Grundy, Moore, Crisp, Mihocek, J Daicos, Elliott.

Negating that as you say is the lack of development our very young list has had the last 2 years underneath that senior core. The names here are McInnes, Henry, Macrae, Ruscoe, Bianco and N Daicos.

How quickly they develop will be a critical factor in where we finish but as mentioned could make this an exciting season to watch unfold.

The 2021 draftees in particular have had precious little preparation and playing time, they will need to nursed into the game if we are to avoid maladies such as Oesteo Pubis.

Would not surprise at all to see a rotational attitude to those younger players, by all means get them experience but don't overstress unseasoned bodies.

It’s great to have some insight into McRae’s thinking, and the input of the new senior assistant coaches.

But to be reminded again that nearly half the team have hardly played footy in two years is bloody terrifying. ‘Underdone’ is an understatement. Other teams are in similar situations, but are they as exposed as us, with our high level of turnover since 2019 and drafting kids who’ve not done all that much?

Might have to start believing in God and start praying.☹️
wins and losses don't concern me this year, just wanting to see development in the players and a better game style.

The most joyful seasons are the ones immediately following ones just like this -- when you start the ascent, make finals, and you know you're in for a good few years.

Great that he praised the work that already done with the group from the prior coaching group I.e defensive side of the game plan

You don’t hear new regimes praising the old regime that too often. Shows modesty and maturity for mine

Absolutely agree.

And he’s right. The defensive side of our game stacked up so Leppa in particular had something to work with.

The key, and where I feel Bucks struggled or his game plan struggled, is being able to become more attacking without losing the defensive structure completely or fear being opened up.

Since I have been watching there have been 2 seasons that dwarf all others for joyfulness and every other positive emotion. 1990 and 2010. Nothing else comes near but next are the RU years

Any chance someone can post a copy of this?

Easily.

How anyone can say that seasons where you don't win flags are more joyful (I'm not saying that you can't enjoy them) is totally out of touch.

I am pretty bouyant.
Possibly because alcohol is less dense than water but I reckon we are going to do much better than expected.

It’s always hard to get a gauge on where the truth really lies in a Q&A like this.

For instance the focus on fundamentals explanation doesn’t stack up and the answer provided seemed more like a way of deflecting from how poor they were under the previous regime. I mean they’re fundamentals you should be good at them regardless of how much footy you’ve missed over a given period and every club has 15+ guys in the same boat. Same goes for the captaincy comments the way it was described by McRae as Pendles choice isn’t how it went down.

What I did buy into though was the data analytics stuff. A department of my employer does some work with AWS (not in this space), but this is going to lead to positive outcomes and was missing from the previous regime, IMO. CD are the best at it in Australia and what they do for the clubs isn’t available to the average punter plus only scratches the surface of what’s possible in that space!

If they can walk the walk we’re in very good hands moving forward.

The fundamentals is more than just about the kids.

Its a drill they do every single day for everyone. Straight after the warm up
Usually involves handballs, ground balls, kicking to a target, marking. So while he may have said its because of the kids; he clearly was trying to downplay it as it clearly reflects how poorly our skills have been.

Has there been a focus on tackling? Most of our squad have a weakness in that fundamental.
