There are only so many combination you can make with a final 8.

Old mate probably made every possible combination.

Bunch of people have thrown out possible final 10s on big footy, if one of them gets used (bloody likely) does that person then claim the AFL copied them?

Moron's system has four "semi" finals, and actually wants people to know that.

Nothing quite like bragging about how dumb you are. Especially if you're meant to be a teacher.

25 years this bloke has been at it.

The final eight system is actually just a “double” version of the old final four, which splits the finalists into halves to play each other:
  • Top half winners get a rest
  • Top half losers get a second chance
  • Bottom half winners play top half losers
  • Bottom half losers go out
From there it’s straight elimination til there’s a winner.

Is it really such a piece of intellectual product that somebody can claim to have “invented” it?

Surely it was an obvious option that anybody with a knowledge of football would have (and probably did) come up with?

Under this system the first week would've looked like:

GROUP A
2nd Semi Final - Sydney Swans (1st) vs Geelong Cats (3rd) - SCG
1st Semi Final - Western Bulldogs (6th) vs Carlton (8th) - MCG

GROUP B
1st Semi Final - Brisbane Lions (5th) vs Hawthorn (7th) - Gabba
2nd Semi Final - Port Adelaide (2nd) vs GWS Giants (4th) - Adelaide Oval

The Cats would've been sent to Sydney to play the Swans in a 2022 GF rematch while the Hawks would've been paired with Brisbane in their group.

From memory I always thought the current system was thrown up as alternative at the time to the Mcintyre final 8 system.

The channel 9 footy show on a Thursday night was big on it getting changed to the current system.

Old mate should have something way back then.
