I honestly suggest you look at using a program like GIMP or Paint.Net (that is if you can't afford Photoshop)

It will improve your designs tenfold.

thanks i will be learning how to use Photoshop and illustrator over the holidays as i have them installed on my computer so i will be moving away from paint

Better yet use Inkscape, vector graphics FTW and it's free/multiplatform.
