Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

How about an away version?
It would be all-white, but the sash could have either two thin black outlines (that would eat up part of the existing red). Or you could have red/black together as thick as that sash ^. Or you could do something stylistic where the shoulder part and the hip part are that thickness but they get thinner in the middle and blur together with perhaps a Port Adelaide (clash) type interlock shape in the middle.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

If essendon wore red with a black sash it would be fine. There are ways around clash issues without the crappy everyone has to have a white guernsey idea and the idea of minimilising the design. The thickness of the sash is fine, their problem comes from an unwillingness to change and have a clash guernsey.

Keep the boring ass design out of our sport.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

as an essendon supporter i know how much we'd bitch and whine if we had a white jumper or a red jumper with a black sash. we've had our jumper for way too long and we're too attached to change it. so we'll probably just keep going on wearing a stretched sash jumper but only when we really have to.
besides the club has to follow it's constitution that says we wear black with a red sash which makes it even harder to change.

You don't have to.

The AFL just can't force you to wear anything other than black with a red sash, but they can force you to have a clash... The joke of a guernsey is the result.

Obviously you will have pride in your jumper but you are making a joke of it with this clash. Wearing a completely different clash guernsey would be more respectful than the rubbish.

well i didn't make the jumper i'm just pointing out that the essendon football club will do anything to avoid changing their jumper. and fwiw, i think our crappy clash jumper's a good compromise. i can still look at it and think "that's essendon". i wouldn't think that with red with black sash or white with red sash. in that case i'd think "that's the essendon team wearing a non-essendon jumper".

If I were you, I'd be sending that the way of Melbourne. It looks ace both the logo and the jumper and considering they're trying to revamp themselves, something like this could be a big help. A whole new look.

Great effort that. Well done.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

How well do you think this would work? Port Adelaide are allowed to play as the Magpies. Port Adelaide hosting Collingwood at Football Park on a Friday Night. Port being the home team get the right to wear whatever guernsey they wish forcing Collingwood to wear a clash guernsey.

Made a few changes to the guernseys, changing the back of the Port top to being all black with white numbers against the predominantly white Collingwood guernsey. Left the stripes on the back of the Collingwood shirt to keep it at least a little bit Collingwood. I don't think that these two tops clash at all.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

Likewise, Collingwood hosting the Port Adelaide Magpies at the MCG, Collingwood wearing their home tops forcing Port into a clash guernsey.

Collingwood wearing their dark home strips with Port wearing a light alternative.

Re: Create an AFL Guernsey

A guy at my local footy club has been wearing tht Sydney jumper they wore a couple of weeks ago. The white with red slash. Whenever I look at it I have to keep telling myself that it is a Sydney clash jumper not Essendon.

If the AFL are going down the light vs dark path, then that jumper design is one that Essendon could wear (yes I know it is not part of their constitution to wear red & black). Something about the red sash being ONLY Essendon. It is the only thing that sets us apart (clothing wise) from Richmond and is far more important than the black IMO. The widening of the red sash looks.... half-hearted!!

I know this is a create a new jumper thread but....

I think that sashed Sydney jumper was a one off, as:
1) They wore it at home
2) They wore it against Carlton (which doesn't even clash)

And on footyjumpers.com, mero mentions this about the jumper:
Celebrating 100 years since the 1909 premiership
