Yeah, I think you can omit Hocking too.

Decent player. Would be in a fight with Cunners for the last contested inside mid spot in our lot. Cunnington has the advantage of being better but has been held back by injuries.

I believe its the "bully syndrome." Bullys are often bullied themselves and are looking to reflect the attention on others. Supporters of loser clubs with little to no success, totaly damaged souls who are just trying to feel important and the easiest target is us, the small Melbourne based club with a "poor" perception.

I don't get angry, im convinced it's not if we win a flag with this group but when and the off-field stuff looks as if its going in a positive direction, alot of idiots are going to have eggs on there faces over the next 5 years or so.

The previous administration allowed that poor perception to fester.

When shit is thrown at the club these days it's always responded to as it should be.

Seriously, apart from Hurley, who is there at Essendon you lookl at go - wish we had him? In the way go do say Marc Murphy or David Swallow or Stephen Hill or even John Butcher?

Not looking to start a fight but by the same token how many players at North would attract that type of attention? some promising players sure, but I'd much prefer Hurley over anything on Norths list. once you get past Goldstein and Swallow it thins out as far as players you'd sell the farm for.

Heppell, yep, forgot him.

Zaharakis would get a game but I wouldn't go trading for him. You can pick up his kind in any draft with a 2nd rounder - like they did.

Those pesky second rounders never amount to much do they.

Some of the Essendon supporters beleive that Ben Howlett will be better than Cunnington. Howlett would struggle to get a game at Nth Ballarat.

Howlett's ahead. Fairly comfortably.

You'd hope & expect Cunnington to go past him at some point, as a pick 5, and given Howlett's 3 years older, but it hasn't happened yet. And yes, I know he's had his injuries which haven't helped. His big weapon was meant to be the left boot IIRC but I've not seen him use it all that much nor have I seen him win a lot of clearances.

I don't think that you do recall correctly. Cunnington and left foot weapon have never been used in the same sentence.

His big weapons are his inside game, his marking ability when forward and his hands in congestion. Maybe you think it's his kicking is his strength as he kicked 16.2 in his TAC season but his field kicking is not a weapon. More a tidy attribute.

Cunners is a bloke who relies on strength in the contest and the fitness at AFL level to get from contest to contest to utilise his strengths. Having his previous two preseasons completely destroyed by injury has prevented him from developing the fitness required of a player of his ilk. There is only so much work you can do when in a moon boot for two months (preseason 2010) or on crutches for two and a half months (preseason 2011).

When he played VFL last year he was very good as the pace of the game allowed him to get to the contests more regularly. I recall in a game against Bendigo where he had close to 20 touches in the third quarter and dragged Ballarat back into the game.

2012 is a huge year for him but he was rated a top 5 prospect in his draft class for a reason. Hopefully we get to see it this year.

Haha I would be stopping right there if thats the extent of his knowledge.

That said I would not be putting Cunnington ahead of to many at this stage. Although I am predicting along with many here a breakout season this year, assuming he can finally get a full pre-season under his belt.

My favourite to date has been a number of Bombers supporters claiming that Zaharakis is going to be as good as Gary Ablett Jr.

There's a young chap wearing no.7 that would attract some vigorous bidding in the unlikely event that he ever comes off contract.

Given the parlous state of Hawthorns' ruck stocks, I'd suggest that Goldstein would be much more valuable to them than nearly anyone else in the comp.

back on topic, here's a beauty from the HS article on the two player collisions at training yesterday:

Pazza of Gallery Drive Posted at 8:20 PM January 23, 2012

It is beyond my comprehension why clubs train like this. There are four reasons why as I'll explain. (1) It causes resentment in the ranks as players look to exertion themselves on their teammates. (2) Concussion in pre-season will have more lasting consequences than those occurring during a proper game due to the level of medical care available (3) It sets a bad example for the younger recruits and rookies and may affect their development.

First for everything!
OK, I'll defer on that but he was still meant to be basically a clearance midfielder, I'd obviously read him being talked up by someone who particularly liked his kicking.

I'm sure there's just as many examples you could pull out of the Ess thread.

LOL.

That'll actually be someone either from here or BomberBlitz taking the piss out of Pazza (who posts a bit here & BB).
I dunno if he really needs any help personally, he has a world view all of his own.

Hodge is a top notch player and one that I'd welcome in blue and white stripes. But given his age (27?) I wouldn't be selling the farm for him.

Whilst not for one second am I claiming that North are a better side that Hawthorn yet, there would be more long term targets at North than Hawthorn.

Goldy, Zeibell, Swallow and Bastinac have already been targeted by the new franchises. What young talent is there at Hawthorn that would give cause for GWS or GC to throw the $$$ around? Rioli?

I don't know if many have quite said that. I know I've seen the "Zaharakis is similar style, and is ahead at same age, therefore..." but being careful to refrain from saying it.

An utter rubbish argument btw.
Dane Swan was rubbish until he was 21yo, therefore everyone who's better than rubbish at that age is better than him???
Doesn't add up but it's a mainstay around here.

There isn't anything wrong with those two facts, the mistake is linking it to the third.

Actually reads like a Melbourne "fan" to me. Bruise free footy anyone?

This thread is about highlighting dick heads, not defending them.

Yes, I got the same first impression.

We've always been noted as a "hard at it" footy club, even when we've been shit.

I like the 26 pages on the Essendon board that discuss the Roos V Ess game as a nothing game - sure we are not Carlton or Collingwood but 26 pages!! It looks like someone is a little obsessed at trying to play our game down. The harder they try the more pathetic they look.......

Yep so only Franklin then....

Yeah I guess, depending on his age. To me you need to be able to guarantee, as much as you can with injuries, that you will get minimum of 5 top years.

No doubt he's a star and one of the major drawcards in the AFL. If he's 25 or under I would "sell the farm" for him, anything older than that and no.

So depending on Franklin's age, there is possibly no one that I would even throw money at, let alone sell the farm for at Whoreforn
