Multiplat Cricket 24

I've got Cricket 24 but gave up playing it about 6 months ago as each patch made fixed one thing then screwed 10 other things up. Plus I got sick of how scripted it the game feels, something its had since the first iterations. It feels like the AI chooses when wickets fall and what total a team will make.

Started playing International Cricket Captain again to get my cricket fix with a semi realistic engine and stats.

I'm assuming Cricket 24 is still a mess?
Oh I love ICC back in 2001. How is the newest version?

Cricket 24 I only play career and it really hasn't changed a lot since the original DB game. Career mode is not rewarding at all. Just feels like you continue to play for the sake of it and its a boring grind.

I haven't tried other modes so not sure about them.

Newest version is good - the commentary and sound is actually not bad. Though I miss the nostalgic 8 bit graphics of the early games lol. I love the management side of things - I actually rarely play the games. Rather I just set the lineups, manage the team, contracts, training etc and sim the matches. Its a hard game to master...

Creating a player and adding him to the Aussie team and starting a career at international level is so much more enjoyable than grinding it out in club cricket

I like rising up the ranks although it varies game by game - some iterations I was captain of Victoria within the first year and in the Aus line up by year 2 and captain of all int formats by year 3.

I also like club cricket as I can (well not in c24 as yet as I haven't grinded my way through) feel like a king doing triple centuries AND taking 5+ wickets every match :p

Just picked up Cricket 22 for $33. How the **** do you get batsmen out? Got a caught and bowled, not out. Nicked behind to the keeper, not out. No commentary, just play on. This shit is bugged!

A lot of the nicks to the WK don't actually count - have had many that I swore were genuine..... but the replay would show that the batsman would hit the ball to the ground, ball bounces to the ground and WK catches it.

As for tactics I try everything sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I concentrate on Yorkers (both fast and slow), mix it up with slow and fast bouncers. I've also mucked around by bowling bouncing Yorkers.

See what the batsman's weakness is (pressing the right analog stick from memory) and bowl to that. Like I'd see someone has weak pull shots... so I'd bowl a few deliveries, then target a delivery where the AI has to play a pull shot etc.

I know i have said this before but the career mode is so dull and has not advanced at all. Played a fair bit over the break and got my baggy green. Then back slugging it out in shield cricket and random 20/20 leagues. Spend more time simulating than playing.
Just no rewards at all, no sponsorship deals or anything. And the boring press conferences that don't mean anything.

Been playing Cricket 22 and hit the same wall in my Career. Got my Baggy Green, racking up tons in the Ashes, then playing the odd local and state games without really doing anything different. Got stale pretty quick at that point.

Changed it up a bit and playing a ODI WC, but even that is weary thin. I'll park it once I'm finished with that I think.

I usually just play career and I think there is enough playability if you're simply a cricket fan but it does lack rewards. I generally stop and a start a new career after I get my baggy and play a few tests. I just find the general simulation needs work. For example bowling to a tail feels no different from bowling to the top order. This is why I stopped playing anything other than career and then in career I'll usually just play opening bat but I'll still be made to bowl. Then the same cheat shots from 22 still work and it's too easy to score even on the hardest difficulty. There is nearly always a gap through the covers that anything pitched on the offside you can punch a boundry through. Almost anything short can be put over the fine leg or deep point boundary for 6. The only challenge is spin due to timing but instead of learning it I just block out any over of spin and may only play at the odd ball that pitches legside as I don't have to worry about LBW.

I really liked the end state of 22 and thought it would be a great foundation for 24 but somehow it released in a worse state. There is no way I'll buy the next one unless there are any major improvements.

^^ For me the only real challenge is bowling and that's largely due to forgetting the "trick" to bowling the AI out without too much effort. Batting is far too easy, I have to do a VERY stupid shot in order to get out (I'm prone to brain fades, you've seen my rocket league bloopers!!) but scores of 200-300-400 are common. I'd love to try and bat "patiently" and see if I can get 1000 runs some day...

I played 19 to depth pre kids, then along came two little ones and game time is scarce, I did sink a bit of time into 22 and 24 but mostly mucking around downloading teams. Never really got into the career mode but the game ends up sucking the life out of you. It is a pretty unrewarding game and personally I see no difference between players whether its a created Shane Warne at 99 overall or Marnus bowling leg spin.

The game feels so scripted, when your bowling of the oppo bats get away to a good start you know 3,4,5 and 6 will fall relatively cheaply, only for 9 and 10 to put on 50 plus partnerships.

The only real joy or reward I felt I got from this game is when you get a genuine wicket caught behind the wicket dismissal. Bowled and LBW more often than not the bat misses the ball by a mile and it looks horrible. Sometimes you do get a good bowled or LBW where it looks like real cricket but I get frustrated when most of them you see just looks that bad like the AI trying to flick a ball through mid wicket and the balls on off stump and hits the top of off , the shot doesn't much the line of the ball.

The only thing I really enjoy is downloading someone else's hard work creating classic teams and playing old series like the 89 Ashes etc.

I accept the flaws for what it is.

If I was 10 and had this back in the cricket loving days I would have been happy as a pig in shit.
