This result means that England joins the USA, West Indies and South Africa in Group 2 of the Super 8s, where each team will play each other once in quick succession. Australia have already had one eye on that stage, where they will be taking on India, Afghanistan and either Bangladesh (more likely) or the Netherlands (less likely). Either way, Australia are going to have to focus their training efforts on batting against spin over the next week, with all three of those Asian teams possessing excellent spin attacks.

South Africa struggled to beat USA in first Super 8 game 4/194 vs 6/176 in Antigua overnight.

Apart from their first game they have struggled against the minnows and low ranked test teams.

First game in Long Island NY when the drop in pitch was poor they bowled Sri Lanka out 77 in 20th over and made the runs in the 17th over. That was a solid win given state of the pitch.

Next game also in Long Island after the pitch got worked on, they play Netherlands who make 9/103 and then were 4/12 then 5/77 in the 17th over before David Miller hit a few 6's and they got to target after 18.5 overs. I listened to the last 6 or 7 overs of that game on the ABC app.

3rd game at Long Island they play the Bangers make 6/113 vs Bangers 7/109, but Bangers got 4 leg byes off the pads when a player was given out LBW, it was reversed by DRS and not out, but Bangers under the current law don't get the 4 runs.

Against Nepal they win by 1 run in Jamaica but there was a bizzare run out on last ball and Nepal should have taken it to a super over.

Against USA today, USA were 5/167 at end of 18th over. They hit 22 off 18th over and 10 off 17th. So 28 off last 2 overs wasn't outrageous but Rabada bounced back from the 17th over but took 1/2 in 19th over and Nortje got the ball for last over and only gave up 7 runs.

Usually in the World Cups the yaphees start as one of the favourites, play well then choke at quarter and semi final time. But this time by struggling they might sneak thru as they don't have any real pressure on them.

Antiguan Curtly Ambrose watching the game on his home ground popped in and gave the US boys a bit of a pep talk for the next two games.

The Poms beat the Windies comfortably 2/181 in the 18th over vs Windies 4/180 in Saint Lucia.

Phil Salt smacked 30 runs 4,6,4,6,6,4 in the 16th over.

It might only be the Mickey Mouse World Cup, but a hat trick is still a hat trick - well done Pat Cummins!!!!

Yeah, that Kiwi bloke who bowled four maiden overs against PNG the other day ain't gonna be one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year either, but well done to him too, I suppose.

All I can say is, roll on the England v West Indies Tests - I want to see Shamar Joseph destroy the Poms!!!

India smacked Afghanistan 47 runs 8/181 vs 134 bowled out on the last ball.

Bangers 8/140 off their 20 overs, vs Oz 2/100 off 11.2 overs and won by 28 runs using D/L method. From Cricinfo commentary;

11.56pm The rain is coming down hard now, probably the strongest we've seen this evening. The players sprint off and DLS par is 72 at this stage, meaning Australia are 28 runs ahead. They scored 30 in the last 14 balls.

Think I will listen to some of the next two games on the ABC app.

South Africa v England starts at Midnight Adelaide time, from Saint Lucia. Given the way South Africa has been going they will either somehow squeak out a win or get absolutely smashed by the poms.

At 10am Adelaide time West Indies v USA from Barbados. Wouldn't be surprised if USA win.

Faark. Aus now have to beat India, or hope the Bangers beat Afwanistan in the final group games...

I love when Australia win things, mainly so I can stir up the poms and Indians at work, but I'm happy for Afghanistan. Minnows no more. Hopefully things improve for them but who knows with the Taliban in charge.
