England won't be confident of a win unless they score at least 350. With the score as it is at the moment(2/140 after 23.3) England should be about 180-190 after 30 and the old adage of doubling the score in the last 20 overs should happen with this pitch as true as it is.
Australia have saved at least 7 runs that I have noticed in the last 5 overs with good fielding. They need to keep this up and apply pressure so that wickets fall. If England are 2 down after 30 they will be able to accelerate.

EDIT : Australia did exactly that, kept up the pressure which led to rash shots from England and seven catches in the deep. After England lost their 3rd wicket at 157 wickets fell pretty regularly and they could not get into a rhythm. As I said, it is a 300-350 pitch and even with a good bowling performance England are right on the back foot.

What's your strike rate? ;)

I should know better than to make predictions early in ODI's. Early on it looked like England were cruising and a big score was in the offing but once their run rate dipped alarmingly then they lost wickets and consequently scored what seemed less than expected. Same with Australia, looked well on target to make it, then were in trouble, then looked to have the game in hand when Hales grassed Paine followed by some great bowling by Curran.

I don't know about Perth's new stadium, i'm not gushing my man panties over it, chance to make something cool and unique but end up having the bastard child of the MCG and the Gabba.

Even channel 9 commentators weren't praising the stadium at every chance like they do with Adelaide Oval.

Having Smith and Warner down on form put the Aussies behind the 8 ball in this series and while Smith may still be the best test batsman in the world, whether it be mental tiredness, an unsuitability to the shorter forms of the game, or a combination of the two, the Australian selectors are going to have a tough decision for the up coming 50 over world cup.

The poms did it much smarter with Joe the Rooter just playing as a batsman and not having to worry about the captaincy.

If I didn't support Port, I would be eating crow at the moment. :D:p

I know what you mean - whenever I make predictions or comment about cricket or footy games the opposite thing invariably happens soon afterwards. Maybe I should make dire predictions on the game day threads, but I don't want to be labelled a bedwetter or put on ignore.

So maybe reverse psychology will work here: South Africa will smash Australia in the upcoming Test series, and Port will win the wooden spoon :).

Ever thought of taking up a career as a cricket commentator? They all seem to be graduates of the Lou Richards "Kiss of Death" university.

Just another generic soulless modern stadium. They could be playing on Mars for all you could tell from the stadium.

it's a great improvement on what was there in the 70s

the area was used for sewerage treatment and a waste dump up until the 1970s. it's actually hard to find images of the rubbish tip and asbestos plant but perhaps because the land is being redeveloped for residential developments now.

oh and Burswood was actually Burrswood but a spelling error at the train station caught on

Could Australia's poor ODI form have something to do with the fact that the 50 over format has been displaced by the T20 format on the Australian domestic calendar? The domestic 50 over competition is jammed together at the start of the season and is all over by the start of the Shield season. I am not sure that all the International players are always back for overseas tours when it is played.

How would anyone pick a ODI player on form? It seems that ODI players are being selected on the basis of Big Bash form and the formats are different. Back in the days of the tri nations series the International and domestic 50 over games ran almost parallel so there was the chance to look at form in the domestic 50 over format when picking a Australian side.

Money talks and Cricket Australia is talking of extending the Big Bash programme. If that happens other formats will suffer and we may not be able to have it all ways.

Well for starters, Nathan Lyon appears to have been labelled a Test only bowler. It intrigues me that the man who took more Test wickets in 2017 than anyone else isn't considered good enough to bowl 10 overs in a one day game. The selectors have much to consider over the next year or so: hopefully they've come to the conclusion that Cameron White isn't a number 3!!!!!!

I have reached the conclusion the Cameron White is no longer an international player in any position. White illustrates my point about picking players for ODIs purely on the basis of T20 form. White hadn't played a ODI for three years then unbelievably gets picked on the basis of two or three T20 hits. Not only that he survives as a batsman despite a string of failures. In retrospect your point about Lyon is also well made and suggests that Australia got what it deserved.

Halfway through the third day of the 1st Sri Lanka v Bangladesh test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Bangladesh the home team have scored 513 and Sri Lanka are 363/2. Sri Lanka may get a lead by the end of the day and if they can bat on and secure a good lead could put Bangladesh under pressure. But one of the teams will have to collapse pretty alarmingly for this to be anything other than a draw.
There have been 16 tests played here and Bangladesh have won 1 and lost 10 with 5 draws.

CA will be releasing D'Arcy Short, Alex Carey and Travis Head for the BBL final.

In Chittagong Dimeth Karunaratne would be feeling he has missed a big chance to make some runs. After Bangladesh scored 513 he scored a duck and the only other Sri Lankan batsmen so far have scored 196, 173, 103 no and 55 no.

This is from the CA website :

"The release clause has not applied to fast bowlers because of their tougher physical workloads, so Strikers quick Billy Stanlake will not play in the BBL final and instead stay with the national squad."

That's a huge blow for the Strikers. They missed him last night, and were lucky to get through despite his absence. I think I'm right in saying that Rashid Khan will also miss the final because of national duty, so that places enormous pressure on the remaining bowlers.

The Afghanistan v Zimbabwe T20 starts at Sharjah, UAE at 7.00pm on 5/2, which is 1.30am ACDT on 6/2. The match ends very close to the Adelaide Airport curfew time, it is very doubtful that a plane would leave in time. Even if it did the time taken to get to Sharjah(no direct flights) could mean it would not arrive till after 7.00pm. So yes, I can't see us having Rashid Khan, he was saying that he will have to leave with unfinished business.
