Another easy ODI win for the Aussie women today - that's 3 from 3. T20 games next, I know there's more points allocated for the one-off test match, but could the "Ashes" be retained before that even starts?

I am reliably informed that last night's win means the Aussie women have retained their Ashes without a ball being bowled in a Test.

And the game was decided on Duckworth/Lewis because of rain.

Nope. They'd done that after winning the first T20 match.

With last nights win, the Australians won the series. Prior to that game winning the remaining 2 T20s and the Test could've allowed England to draw the series.

Also this video has a bit of context, the Women do play for The Ashes. Although its a bit more of a contrived piece of history than the men.

And unlike the men, the women actually get The Ashes when they win.

That innings by Mitch Owen in the BBL grand final is as good as any innings in a white ball final - that I have seen, be it in a World Cup, an international tri series final or a domestic final.

He basically had the game won after 4 or 5 overs. I expected Tim David to be the guy who was going to belt the ball all over and out of the park to get Hobart over the line late in the game, and he didnt even need to bat.

Maxwell, Kohli, Tendulkar, Richards, Gilchrist etc may have had a better innings in a white ball game than Owen, but nobody has had a better innings in a final.

The packed house going crazy might be a good preview of what a big AFL game win and AFL finals win by the Devils might look like.

I would argue that Gilchrist's knock in the 2007 World Cup final against Sri Lanka would be right up there, but yeah - that hitting from Owen tonight was extraordinary.

Hopefully Owen lives at West Lakes for at least a couple of months when the season starts :).

Ive only seen highlights of Gilchrist's knock as I was in Sweden for my late brother in-law's funeral, so it doesnt stick im my mind as strongly, but the highlights were dam good.

Put it this way - like Owen tonight, by the time Gilly was dismissed, the game was virtually over as a contest.

There's a very real chance that Head will open, meaning Konstas won't play.

It concerns me that the selectors will shoot themselves in the foot (again).

If anyone is under pressure it should be Usman Khawaja, he hasn't made many runs of late. In 6 Tests in Sri Lanka Usman has passed 50 only once and has a Test average of 28 in that country. He has not made a century since Birmingham in June 2023. At 38 years of age Khawaja's career is about over.

I agree, but convincing the selectors of that is another matter.
