Re: Cricket Kit Design/Discussion

I heard it was because Brad Hodge did his back trying to tie his laces that Pomers got called up :(

Don't mind that new T20 shirt. I'd get one, but they are
a. overpriced
b. 100% polyester
c. unlikely to be in my size

served a kid today at work wearing the fakest* Bushies top in the world. It had a stitcher on Bushies old logo and no sponsors at all

Hehe this can happen. Don't be too hard on the kid though :thumbsu: He just wants to support his team. In years to come he'll remember it, come on BigFooty and tell everyone about it.

ONCE UPON A TIME... mass merchandising didn't exist for sports teams. Sure, you could buy footy jumpers. For cricket, there might be souvenir t-shirts at the game, much like at concerts, but they weren't sold in shops. In the early 1980s, the main sports retailer was Kmart! Other sports shops were all specialist and local, not franchised.

It was possible to buy patches, iron-ons etc. and with help from mum and dad and DIY, you could make your own shirt and support the team, wear it to primary school etc. No major issues with the economic haves and have-nots, as everyone had the same kind of shirt.

The first ODI replica cricket shirts retailed in Australia were in 1992 for the World Cup! I turned 15 during that tournament so it was hardly something I "grew up with".

And for footy t-shirts... retro logos are printed and distressed on t-shirts that sell for $35 dollars at AFL Shop, Spectator Sports, the club shops etc. The same sort of thing you could do yourself with an iron-on. Pardon the pun, but it's a tad IRONIC.

Re: Cricket Kit Design/Discussion

For sure. And the discussion is great!
Please don't think I was having a go at you :)

Re: Cricket Kit Design/Discussion

Yeah, New Zealand's shirt in those colours was always GREY not beige! Looking at the lighting on the India shirt, I think it could be making the NZ shirt look wrong - don't quote me on that though. The India shirt is not bad actually. Oh dear, only goes up to XXL. No India shirt for my collection then.

Sri Lanka would be very popular, heaps of them living around Melbourne town, they'd definitely buy it. I did get a blue and green Sri Lanka shirt from 1995-96 off eBay a couple of years back, they've definitely had a few variations over the years.

The Indian shirt isn't right either. The font should be dark blue, not yellow And yes, the Sri Lankan one would sell like the clappers.

You'd all love the 92WC 'replica' Sri Lanka shirt I ordered from cricinfo then.

70 bucks, and it is horrible, almost unwearable.

Then why did you buy it then? For the laughs?

Yeah, considering the real thing retailed for $50 back in the day.

Pakistan versions have been the main ones doing the rounds over the years as reproductions.

Re: Cricket Kit Design/Discussion

Yeah, agree with you. Like the heat and scorchers kit. Hate the stars one

Yeah it looks way too much like Pakistan, surely they could of been a little more inventive.

These would have to be my favourite BBL kits in order:

Scorchers
Heat
Thunder
Hurricanes
6ers
Strikers
Stars
Renegades

I wouldn't have if i'd seen it in a store, rather than this....

The cotton is like one of those 5 dollar t-shirts you pick up in discount stores, the color panels are only on the front, not the back, and the font on the front isn't anything like what's shown there, either in style or size. Silly me had something printed on the back which means I cannot send it back.

The other repro's i've seen of that design over the years have been excellent. Even better than the original replicas.

Re: Cricket Kit Design/Discussion

Unfortunately I can't judge the kits as they all feel "tryhard" and fairly generic to me, plus I'm biased as I'm a Renegades member

BBL Teams wearing black pants = teams ashamed of their shirt colours.

I find the colours of the Strikers and Heat confusing - both don't match what they were originally going to, and as a result they're too similar. Not bad colours, mind you, just too similar.
