To be fair this sort of retirement to play domestically has been happening for a hundred years
Yeah, it was a play on the moral panic that happens every time someone cuts short a test career to play franchise cricket. When they do it to play county cricket, nobody bats an eyelid.

It's interesting that players of all sports seem so much more sanguine about what happens on the field than their much less paid predecessors, some of whom I think would actually have died for the jersey/jumper/cap they were wearing.

It obviously drives some (mostly older) folks mad when they see a bloke laughing after a game with an opposing player that just beat his team.

If anything with all the money involved, logic dictates it should be the opposite right? Players should be clawing for every last inch because that will equate to more $$$ in their back pocket.

Amongst other factors, obviously they're trained to focus their mindset on the bigger pictures and not get bogged down on losses (unless their genuine end of the road losses, i.e knockout finals). They're also trained to keep outbursts behind closed doors, which is often mistaken as a lack of passion.
There's an aspect of people generally being far more friendly or at least courteous with strangers these days.

The amount of stories I've heard from parents/elders about fights at the pub back in the day are wild. I've never even seen one, they treated it as a standard Friday night.

Andy Flower, Neil Johnson both did it when the Zimbots had a very good side - they went from being more than competitive to a basket case inside 18 months

World has changed and continues to evolve - not always for the better

Crazy thing is turns out elgar had basically been sacked from test side and that he wanted to keep playing tests best they would give him was farewell series at home

I can understand that. It’s not viable to keep selecting someone at his age who is such a liability away from home

“He’s been brought up playing in WA so it’s pretty safe to assume he’s very comfortable playing the hook and pull and cut shots.”

Why. Why the f**k is it safe to assume that? Is it because he’s played one shield game at the WACA?

Does his grade team play there once a year? Does every grade ground in Perth have a ground as bouncy as a surface revered as the bounciest in the world 40 years ago?

Seriously what a wank.

People whining about test cricket being dead in the gameday thread after Pakistan stretched us in Melbourne and Sydney, when we're the reigning test champions.

It might've given the AFL seasons between 2017-2020 a bit more zest if every Richmond fan had decided AFL was dying as a consequence.

It shits me on the cricket coverage how the only time you see a dismissal in normal motion is live pretty much. Every replay is in slo mo unless they want to make a point about the pace of the ball or something.

Not as much of a problem these days with Kayo you can just cue back I guess, it's always annoyed me though.
They do wicket highlight packages as the day progresses, to show you how/when wickets fell. Those are generally played in full motion the first time.

The focus on the celebration gives me the shits, though.
